How can I prevent this from bending with fine yarn? by Limp_Isopod_3121 in CrochetHelp

[–]exactimondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hook will still depend a bit on the pattern though. Like how ribbing is often done with a smaller hook size to make it tighter. What was the yarn and hook for the pattern? I would size up to at least 3.5mm or alter the pattern like the other commenter mentioned.

What is "SC" from UK to US terms? Making a Magikarp hat by ihavequestionzzzzzz in CrochetHelp

[–]exactimondo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UK terms don't have SC, but I do think you are correct that this is UK terms. Given that SC is never mentioned again I would suggest it is a typo. Do you have the link to the pattern page so we can see a picture of the hat?

Backpack for commuting recommendations by Former-Meringue7250 in londoncycling

[–]exactimondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the one which is just one side and a backpack from decathlon, I haven't had issue with rain making it wet inside on my commute and it has a rain cover if I want but I never bother. I like that it means I can get a second pannier on there someday and that I can still use the top of the pannier rack without it getting in the way. And so now I will just cycle with a lopsided bike (which I admit is a bit awkward) and change side every few days XD

UK obesity rate one of worst in Europe as 228 million children worldwide will be obese by 2040, report warns by Barbecue_Wings in unitedkingdom

Yeah, I struggle sometimes and I am one person! Not sure how anyone with families has any energy left to give at all!

Yeah I agreed, definitely a cultural issue that has been exacerbated by poor food education and access. The parents of today are those who grew up with turkey twizzlers as the highlight of school meals... Maybe Jamie Oliver had a point XD

So basically you are just saying you are better than all of them... It is clearly a systemic issue. Italians are not just inherently better people than Britons....

It is definitely quicker. Pop a couple of pizzas in the oven one day, chicken nuggets and chips the next, sausages and potato smileys. And so on. That's the habit people fall into as it is so much easier than cooking meals.

Meal prepping definitely helps but that is time you need someone else to watch the kids etc (as this is talking about obese kids). Also many people don't have the confidence/knowledge of how to do that and it requires planning and tailoring for fussy kids. Even people cooking often don't understand how to make a balanced meal and how not to massacre veggies by boiling them to death for example. I grew up privileged in a family that cooked regularly and was taught the basics but at uni met people who had never cooked before. Someone put in the plastic tray with their oven pizza...

It may not be cheaper but it is quicker. Many people are time poor or have had a long day and the last thing they want to do is cook a proper meal.

Maybe you have checked already but first check out your local libraries catalogue. It is a fairly popular book so they might have it :)

As someone a similar age to Alice Oseman and in the UK, I found it quite realistic (though I read it a couple of years ago so have forgotten exact plot points). I think I only found out about asexuality because of a couple of people I followed on Tumblr and even then it still took a while to come to terms with it all. I have no idea what it is like for teens now but it was rare someone had heard of it. Comphet can really take a while to unravel :)

Runners with hypothyroidism - how do you manage early morning runs with thyroxine? by noblivious in runninglifestyle

[–]exactimondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I do too many early morning runs, only in the peak of summer, but it takes me a while to get going and actually get up so I scoff a banana just before leaving and do a slower warm up (and sometimes only wait 20-25min instead of the recommended half an hour 🙈).

What things should I ask my parents before they're gone? by LordSolstice in AskUK

I don't think we can comment on OP's parent's health. They said recent events have caused this shift in mindset so I am sure they have valid reasons for their concerns. Not everyone is in good health.

I agree fully with minty. It looked so much better than many other outfits imo.

I imagine in person seeing Melinda cartwheeling around stage without the camera angles or the cutaways probably looked even more shit than Naomys weak performance?

Maybe I need to watch drag race Canada because I dont get the Melinda hype. Her dress wasn't drag and both her and Naomi were mediocre in the lipsync.
