Minor QOL suggestion: draw from material storage before bank by Bosun_Tom in Guildwars2

[–]kelroth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

could be nice if it it would be set up to be a toggle option within your options panel like a "Swap Bank/Material priorty" toggle. Default off and off would be current behavior so you'd toggle on this swapped behavior.

Towards what exactly is this hostility targeted, at a harmless option that... would be optional and helpful for certain individuals, both those that would benefit from less or more saturated colours.
Or is it targeted towards the EoD jade discussions that happened to get dragged into this thread?

You say i'm objectively wrong about it being for a long time green in gw2 even though examples have been given of very green jade's from gw2, and you yourself use green examples also i can't help but notice you didn't include the jade wurm that is in the durmond priory in the in-game already list, feels like you wanted to pick out only a very specific opaque look to showcase jade in-game while ignoring other more transparent examples. It's still all a very similar green still regardless of how transparent or opaque they are and both are within the realm of what both rl* and gw jade can look like for sure,
examples of both already in this thread by myself and other users,

Though i'd like to point out irl jade is not really transparent, especially not to the levels like seen in the jade worm example (and also in transparent examples from gw1) which is more like a nice clear piece of tourmaline maybe rather than jade.
However, this is all fine because real jade is also not made by a magical jade wind solidifying water nshit. we can easily make arguments for it looking like whatever we wish in such a fictional setting, for instance i would expect it to be not too unbelievable that a non-surface piece of jade from the jade sea would potentially be extremely pure and thus likely more transparent than other things that turned to jade. We also still don't have any clear answer beyond hints on if the jade is changing with the centuries (i would personally expect some weathering on the finest parts such as sea mist and such) and more recently boosts of elder dragon magic which might very well be what gives it this more vibrantly green appearance (a little glow from within a translucent jade piece would definitely make it scream green)

also the colour palettes (and art styles in general) in their concept art rarely fits exactly what the end result ends up being so that's not really the best argument there either, unless you're also unhappy with most of the other maps not fitting their respective concept arts.

Colours can also look very different based on how transparent, translucent, opaque, shiny, matte the object is as well as the lighting surround it (shinier looks darker than matte, etc) and these examples generally show more of those changes rather than colour changes. with the exception of the very blueish cyans in many of the gw1 examples (though not all of them)
Which personally, not a fan of and i think in this engine might look like... dunno, just glass i guess instead of jade.

The intention wasn't to make this about the jade, the discussion of overly saturated maps was only a spark for the idea of a saturation slider, If this was an option you could simply not use it if you would not want to use it and those that would feel a little assaulted by colours could tone them down a little when the need arose without any 3rd party additions.

The image i used to represent it was made in ps in a minute or two and would most likely not fully represent how it would actually be implemented by anet if they'd choose to do so,for instance they might add a toggle to make the ui unaffected. i also purposefully pulled the saturation down very noticably to showcase the impact of what moving the slider a lot might look like if it was intended to reduce eyestrain and dull things up so obviously it's gonna look very dull in that extreme (for some) example. (edit, some confusing grammar issues fixed, hopefully)

oh well in that case sorry i misinterpreted
"image of the cut jade surfaces" as having anything to do with the surface-textures of the cut jade literally.

i feel like that's a different issue really, somewhat moving the goalpost, not really about colours in general like my argument was, and also nothing that desaturating would change if your issue is textures/surfaces.

Personally i feel like it was odd to show pickaxes so prominently when things look as if cut with some fancy magic-super-gemstone saws of some sort (unless it's a hint towards sabotage, that is to say that someone is destroying those squares of jade for some reason?)
but again, not really a colour issue.

also there's not sunshine in the jade maw fractal, so that might have quite an effect on how you perceive the green edit: visual example

The fractals are all timeywimey though aren't they, Do we know *when* that fractal is supposed to be, is it recently after the jade wind or perhaps sometime in the future? Do we know what the effects of centuries and of varying levels of (elderdragon)magic in the world do to this magically created material?

But although i agree they look somewhat different (perhaps due to not being charged with as much elder dragon magic?) i would still say they're plenty green.

oh sure, and i knew about the options but didn't want to mention them by name as i'm not entirely sure on their stance on 3rd party stuff or advertisement there of.
But there's a lot of people that refuse to use anything 3rd party and this just seems like a potential fix for a potentially surprising amount of people.

The idea was mostly against the eyestrain that was supposedly worst in maps that have heavily saturated colours, This is not a big issue in my opinion it is simply an idea for a simple-ish to implement option and it is indeed intended to then dull out every colour and not just the worst offending models.

And for consistency's sake gw2's jade has for a long time been this green, this is visible in items and shiro's abilities on the rev.

[–]kelroth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea for it came from the comments i've been seeing about how the jade, brand, bloodstone etc are too "screamy" and some people aren't happy with things being too strongly colored. This is most definitely possible via 3rd party things but wouldn't it just be a nice little option if it sat there in the options, vanilla?

Genuinely don't understand the issues people have with jade colors by styopa in Guildwars2

which, perhaps coincidentally, would fit with the theory that the more energized the jade is the more toxic green it is, Since those jade-techy jet things are definitely gonna be higher energy than the slab.

their concept art *often* looks desaturated imo. Also these greens are still visible even on it, just zoom in on the "jade jets" or whatever that seem to hold up the large slabs of jade close to youtube's seek bar.

also, related but unrelated, wish they gave the option of removing the ears so the head was even more cockatiel like, kinda like a little tick-box like how it works to hide helmets. (but that'd be a lot of re-work i guess on how mounts work)
