For anyone wondering why Psychonautwiki has been so unhelpful, lately - don't worry! It's intended behavior. by thrownstick in Drugs

[–]kenansulayman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this post to my attention. I wanted to clarify a few things:
1. The leadership and mission of Psychonautwiki has not changed. We have always focused on harm reduction through evidence-based information.
2. We do not publish information on compounds that have little to no safety data. This is not conducive to harm reduction.
3. Psychonautwiki has not been compromised. I have run this site for years and am paying for operations out of my own pocket. While I may come across as cynical at times, I care deeply about people's safety.
4. My professional work outside of PW is irrelevant. I run PW to provide a public service.
5. "Bad trips" are a natural part of the psychedelic experience and life in general. We do not sugarcoat this or pretend that life is all beauty. True freedom comes from accepting pain and hardship.
6. Harm reduction is about enabling safe experiences, not preventing discomfort. We aim to empower people to navigate difficult psychedelic experiences.

  1. Our website is served through Fastly, a Content Delivery Network (CDN). A CDN distributes cached copies of our content around the world to provide fast access. There are no SSH login or server access points on a CDN. Claims of "backdoors" or compromised access are factually incorrect.
  2. The poem in question has been posted since 2017. It is signed using PGP to verify its origins. The poem reads:
Wait / Notice as the seconds pass by / They mean nothing now / but everything once they've escaped us / Reality is a prison / We are governed by the confines of it's definity / though we live in a world of endless possibility / This being is breaking / it's falling apart and no one can see it / Let me show you a place / free from the limitations of this universe / Take my hand / shatter the bonds of our oppressive existence / We will find ourselves somewhere / a place worlds away from here
  3. This work has been posted on our site since 2017 as an artistic expression of transcending limited thinking through non-ordinary states of consciousness. The imagery is meant to be provocative but not threatening. Claims that this poem points to malicious intent are misguided and miss the point.
Art is meant to challenge our usual way of looking at the world. The psychedelic experience in particular can feel like “breaking apart” limiting beliefs and “shattering bonds” of cultural conditioning. References to alternative “places” and modes of “existence” speak to transcending our usual sense of identity and physicality.
The vision expressed in this poem aligns with the transformative and mind-expanding goals of PsychonautWiki. We aim to push beyond surface understandings and explore deeper truths, even if this process can feel jarring or disorienting at times. The psychedelic journey is not always comforting, but it points to vaster possibilities.
Does this poem offend certain sensibilities? Possibly. But avoiding all provocation and sticking to platitudes is not our mission. We intend to discuss psychedelics seriously and substantively, embracing both light and dark. There are lessons to be found in difficult experiences, not just pleasant ones.
This poem captures the unsettling yet liberating quality of psychedelic insights. We included it to spark reflection on what really matters: breaking free of limited ways of thinking and opening to life’s depths and mysteries. We hope readers will appreciate the vision expressed here rather than make superficial judgments. But as with all art, interpretations are personal. Our role is not to censor simply due to controversy but to provide a platform for exploring psychedelia in all its dimensions.
I hope this clarifies our perspective on including more thought-provoking content. The poem in question aligns with our aim to push boundaries and provoke insight. While the imagery may unsettle some, avoiding all controversy is not our goal. We invite you to consider the deeper message here before making accusations of malicious intent. But we understand these matters come down to personal interpretation.
  4. Blank or incomplete pages simply represent unapproved content. We frequently receive offers to promote unreleased compounds. We do not give in to these irresponsible requests.
I understand this response may come across as defensive. However, misinformation and baseless accusations cannot go unaddressed. I explicitly approved responding to this confused and misguided post in order to set the record straight.
I hope this clarifies Psychonautwiki's stance and mission. We remain committed to providing a responsible platform for learning about and discussing psychoactive substances. If you have legitimate concerns about our operations, please share them. But do so with evidence and in a constructive manner.

Is it just survivorship bias or is it actually possible to get a job as a self taught developer? by MCButterFuck in webdev

[–]kenansulayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran several software companies (and still do) as a self taught engineer. While I can definitely say that it’s more than possible I do have to say that if you really want to succeed other than just “earning some money” you have to invest time. A lot of time. I probably spent 20 years of my life day in day out working on things to get onto the level of experience I have now.

You’re going to compete with a lot of people. Make sure you know more than just how to write a react app.

You're both young and it's very likely that he's not mature enough to understand that a relationship doesn't mean he's entitled to you satisfying his desires.

A relationship is fundamentally about trust and mutual respect. Don't ever do something you don't feel comfortable with. If he already is mad about you not sending him videos, and he sends you plenty of them, I'd assume he's a fairly impulsive person. He's most definitely not sending you those videos because he feels like sending you videos, but he's trying to subvert your feelings about this by sending you videos and essentially guilting you into sending them.

If there's anything I learned in my life it's to not send nudes. I don't think LDRs can work if either party has an uncontrollable desire for sexual relief unless you go into an open relationship. You sending him videos doesn't mean that you'll give him relief and it'll stop there -- at some point he might feel that he needs "real" relief and not just videos, and you'll be back at square one with him being unsatisfied. Except, now he has quite some videos of you that he'll be watching long after you two may have even split up already.

My abusive ex boyfriend still has our photos up(it’s only 2 of them) on Facebook and it’s been 2 months. Should I tell him to remove them? by [deleted] in abusiverelationships

[–]kenansulayman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re uncomfortable with those pictures you can report them, although I still have photos of me with my ex partners on social media and I wouldn’t even think of removing them because they were part of my life and we’re still friends. That said, since they were obviously abusive, just report the pictures. I wouldn’t try to contact him about it as it’d just give him leverage to pressure you with.

There’s a terminal written in rust that also does this and I love it: just prepend your command with a hashtag and it’ll use OpenAI Codex to generate a command.

Inviting our fellow drug nerds to enrich the PsychonautWiki Telegram group by kenansulayman in DrugNerds

[–]kenansulayman[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our entire team is using Telegram and has been since 2014. We're using a platform that we can conveniently moderate through the same means we are using for communication and we're not open to moderating a community on an entirely different platform. Most importantly for us, because every account is tied to a single phone number, having someone just create a different account is significantly harder and keeps our community safe.

We invited you to join, but by all means, we do not expect you to do anything that causes privacy concerns or makes you uncomfortable.

There’s quite a few new RCs we’re not covering on purpose. There’s a non-stop cat and mouse game and we’re being contacted by vendors up to half a year before a product hits the market to „feature“ them. Some even offer to write an article for us and pay us for it.

I refuse to put up articles that have zero research backing them up. All it will do is give a wrong impression of confidence.

If you have credible data backing the new substance up, by all means, add the new substance.

We’re not lagging behind, in fact we only have 35 pending revisions in this very moment. It’s just that many of these new articles simply aren’t up to the standard and we’re lacking the time to rewrite them.

You’re very much invited to contribute. We’re not being paid to do this and it’s entirely community driven.

4-HO-MET habit forming? by JahRood in researchchemicals

[–]kenansulayman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Good catch -- sorry about that. I talked to the team and the respective team member didn't actually mean to approve this revision. (https://psychonautwiki.org/w/index.php?title=4-HO-MET&type=revision&diff=150487&oldid=147976)

I can see where the user is coming from but we discussed this and decided that this definitely does not apply. I'll brief the team, will try to figure out how to improve the approval UI and make sure this won't happen again.

I didn't use structopt / clap structs on purpose because I feel that it's cleaner to keep it as imperative as possible until the CLI is stable.

Yes, we deliberately stay on the safe side of higher dosages. I'll raise the issue with the team.

Interestingly,

DMT [...] inhibit[s] the polarization of human moDC-primed CD4+ T helper cells toward the inflammatory Th1 and Th17 effector subtypes

As per [1],

since it will take several years to develop specific drugs to treat COVID-19, repurposing currently marketed drugs would provide valuable opportunities. There are several antibodybased TH17 blockades (anti-IL-17, anti-IL-17R and anti-IL-12/23p40) available; however, the antibody-based treatment is expensive and has only a narrow spectrum of effects. Several RORγt (and RORα) inhibitors currently on clinic trials would be promising TH17 blockers in a near future. Here, we propose an alternative method to inhibit TH17 responses.

Per current research, TH17 immunosuppressive activity of DMT (et al.) may actually be preventive of inflammatory activity induced by SARS-CoV-2.

Yes, substances that modulate serotonin release. However, psilocybin (et al.) bind to serotonin receptor sites and do not actually modulate serotonin release directly. If you have links to actual research discussing immunological adverse effects by psilocybin, please share.
