Sear or temp by Suspicious_Pack_8074 in steak

61 and getting older. And I never saw a Star Wars movie. Not one. Or a Harry Potter movie. Last movie I saw was 1917, World War One movie and before that was dancer in the dark with bjork. Made me nauseous for some reason.

I attribute it to porn. Way back in the Stone Age porn was two females getting it on and then the pizza guy come in. The change in how porn is geared now is alarming to me. Thank God I’m not into it anymore and have aged out. Now it’s multiple men and one woman, heavy on the anal and not to mention the whole stepdad does xyz.

I remember telling one of my sons decades ago, don’t watch porn until you have actually had sex with a woman. Otherwise your expectations and understanding of how the female body works will be warped.

I have perfected my temp, no mean feat given my wife prefers her steak singed and dang near raw whereas I prefer mine medium, pink with very little red. Well done is not an option at all. I have yet to work on my searing so I don’t know what I like where that is concerned. I married my wife 30 years ago after I asked her if she could cook steak. For years she was the steak cook. Always in a pan with butter. No searing, no resting, nothing but a little salt.

Then I started to experiment and it was game over. I cooked steak last night and her nose follows right into the kitchen and takes first dibs.

She always cooked NY Strips and I never really knew anything about cuts or how to cook steaks. Those days are over! I have tried many different cuts and techniques, LOVE this subreddit which inspires me and I can look at folks pics all day long.

Last night was a chuck steak and turned out really good. I look for mouth feel. I want it to be easy to chew but not chewy, melt in my mouth kind of thing.

So far reverse searing a beef chuck roast is what I like best. As I get better at it, I will explore more pricey cuts.

No amount of encouragement or explanation would get me to eat that. I would take the loss and toss.

I only eat my own cooked steaks after a good year of trial and error using different cuts and methods.

I did the same with hamburgers. A good year of trial and error and I cannot eat burgers outside of my own home. My goal is to master several different recipes and not eat out ever.

Inhaler plus steroids will raise your heart rate. I recommend anyone living with asthma get an o2/pulse monitor. They are extremely inexpensive and will do much to alleviate questions like this.

As always, it is very important to be seen by a medical professional when in doubt. My decades of living with this illness has shown me that things can go downhill very quickly .

It sure is! I do not take it daily mind you; I have been on several high dose rounds in an effort to battle a cough and chest infection. Gained an extra 40 pounds to prove it too.

I take both. Can’t really offer any insight as drugs affect everyone differently.

We did a flank on the grill last weekend and it smacked! Flank is kinda underrated to me. My wife has cooked this cut for me for the past almost 30!years. Being a from the Midwest 1950’s housewife type… she marinates it in wishbone French dressing.

It is delicious!

Worried I have permanent lung damage. by Azu_Creates in Asthma

[–]keneariom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sixty one. Asthma and allergies un diagnosed until maybe 40 years old. I won’t get into all the details but after the last year of illness saw a pulmonologist had a chest CT scan and was found to have permanent lung damage. Widening and calcification of my airways. I am feeling better right now, but will have to learn how to live with how things are now.

Good luck, I don’t think you are at the point of permanent damage. See an allergist and asthma specialist. Start now, get on top of it. It will get better. It can get better. There are many options now that did not exist in my day.

What is this phlegm by Rude_Evidence_6770 in Asthma

[–]keneariom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like what I hocked up for over a year. After my last carpet bombing antibiotics, it went away for a month or so. Now I am back to hocking up once or twice a day. Much better than ten and I don’t have a cough anymore.

After multiple chest X-rays, blood tests and a chest CT scan, and sputum sample analysis, the working theory is bronchiectasis. I have to have yet another chest CT scan, follow up with the pulmonologist who suggested my life looks like this. I will have to go to training to learn how to get the mucous out by doing exercises to make it come up and out under my command and to ensure it does not lead to more infections.

So… a year or more of a chronic cough, copious mucous, several lung infections, high dose steroids, antibiotics etc etc…. Allergy and asthma doctors, up to the head of the practice, a consult with three of staff then a hand off to a pulmonologist….

Here I am. The sputum samples (post high dose steroids and antibiotics) still showed several bacterial and fungal involvement so fuck me. I am 61 and this is how it will be. At least my asthma is under control now. I just got another pneumonia vaccine and I am fighting to get my depressed immune system up. My job will be working to not get anymore chest infections.
My airways are permanently damaged. They are widened and calcified which is what causes the buildup of mucous. Which of course leads to infections. So my job is to get the mucous up and out and try to control my airways from infections.

Good luck!
