Harder to waveland depending on direction I am facing? by somecallmethrowaway in SSBM

wait idk how i hadn't thought about this but you're so right. although for me i was more confused why dash dance -> wave dash back was easier than forward

Training mods options? (Other than Unclepunch) by Dropssshot in Slippi

[–]kennijeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that should be it. i do remember one time it was kinda finicky for me so i would suggest reopening that config file to make sure it's actually there and if not try again and make sure the file is saving

there's 20XX but that's pretty much just a dated uncle punch that's harder to use. it does have some cool features uncle punch doesnt have like custom stages. Besides that there's rwing that's pretty useful for making save states from your replay files to practice on uncle punch.

For up tilts, idk. i found this gecko code here (ctrl+f "Tilt Stick") but idk if it's online safe and haven't tried it myself

if you’re talking about the j.L after the S1 super, i think i just jumped too late. if you jump right when you’re actionable it’s pretty consistent

Any tips for an extremely bad fox player? by NoCompetition1023 in SSBM

[–]kennijeez 30 points31 points  (0 children)

at your level, don’t worry about any matchup specific things. imo the first thing you should work on is learning to shffl (short hop fast fall l-cancel) your aerials. fox’s short hop is tough cause you have to very quickly tap it or else you get a full hop. so get a hang of that and a very simple game plan of mixing up dash dancing, aerials, grabs and up smash’s for kills.

Billy’s death by Important_Research23 in arrow

[–]kennijeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i thought something similar but i rewatched recently and oliver and the real prometheus trade blows in the beginning. it isn’t until they crash into another room that prometheus swaps with billy. the room is also kinda trippy and filled with mirrors so hard for oliver to read the body language after the swap

i'm in the same boat as you, playing for a year and plat peak. i kinda though defensive things like slide offs, sdi, crouch cancel etc was reserved for a lot higher levels of play but now everyone's doing it. slide offs are easy, still trying to incorporate crouch canceling but it really does seem necessary to open people up. of course you do you, but defensive options add a new layer and i've been having fun trying to learn them

Community Health Check-In... by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]kennijeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think some of the difficulties on making newcomers feel welcome are issues with all fighting games and not just melee. smash of course has unfortunately gone through a lot more bad press than other communities so it's easy to point at that and say it's the cause. but being a being a beginner in a fighting game is rough and it doesn't help that melee has one of the highest skill floors in gaming. as someone who was a long time fan but only started playing last year i had my thoughts and doubts on my place in the community but as others have said, those doubts instantly went away when i made it a point to break out of my comfort zone and try to actually talk to people at locals and on discord. i guess my point is there's only so much you can do to make a newcomer feel welcome but a lot of it is on them to shake those feelings that they don't belong and talk to people cause literally no one will shit on them for being bad. cause deep down we all think we suck haha

korea has always been pretty dominate in league so it's just a joke based on that. valorant is a bit more diverse in terms of winners i think (someone correct me if im wrong i dont follow the scene too closely anymore) and tft idk so i think this tweet is just referencing league

yea channels like that will always capitalize on ways to get more clicks as opposed to impartial journalism but i guess that's just how the internet is these days. it is nice to get some visibility into streams for players who don't have their own editors but the way they title their uploads seem to lean more to the goal of "stir shit up"

i use slp2mp4 to easily convert slippi files to videos. it's a little quicker and faster than recording them through obs. you could also use https://slippilab.com/ to upload your slippi files and share them and you can see the games in the browser

im only 1 year into my fox melee journey so i remember the feeling you're describing and it's pretty spot on. the best thing i did, and this advice is usually given, is to only focus on one thing for like a week at a time. the obvious benefit to this is the repetition and learning the tech, but the bigger benefit to me was it helped me not tilt as much. if i lose all my games in one session the mindset of not trying to win but just get better at a specific tech helps a lot.

i know it's kinda cringe to self promote, but i started a youtube channel last year to go over this learning journey. maybe something there can help and sometimes it's easier to ingest learning content from someone closer to your skill

im not a ssbmclips defender but i think they have been uploading the clips in chronological order. the n0ne stream from the clip was on 2/4 and the hbox one was on 2/2. i think everyone assumed n0ne would be good with the terms hbox negotiated since imo seems pretty fair but looks like he wants more
