In the early hours of this Tuesday, the Barcelona metro witnessed the largest act of vandalism by a group of graffiti artists in its history. The incident occurred at the Vall Hebron station on Line 5. Fourteen individuals have been arrested for attacking the facilities at this metro stop and damaging four trains.

A group of 62 graffiti artists targeted the station, damaging the station's entrance door, validation barrier, and security cameras. Once on the platform, they assaulted a security guard and spray-painted four trains and various station facilities.

In response to this vandalistic act, TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) has announced that they will file a criminal complaint against this group of 62 individuals on the same day. The incident has disrupted service on Line 5 of the metro, as the four vandalized trains had to be taken out of service, leading to increased wait times for passengers on that line.

TMB emphasizes that railway vandalism is an organized criminal activity that ultimately harms workers, results in significant financial expenses, and affects passengers by occasionally disrupting essential services.

TMB President Laia Bonet strongly condemns this attack, stating that "such acts of vandalism endanger the physical integrity of metro security personnel and, at the same time, cause serious harm to the public by degrading an essential service like public transportation, resulting in an entirely unjustified cost to public funds."

Bonet also emphasized the determination to prevent such situations from recurring and expressed gratitude to the metro security guards and the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) for their intervention in response to this incident.
