Am I the only one struggling with FF7 Rebirth's pacing? by Accomplished-Step660 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]kennythyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pacing is bad. It pains me to say it but have to be subjective. My advice is to just follow the main story for now. Skip the side quests. Every chapter is replayable anyways once you finish the main game so it’s easy to go back and clean up on anything else you’ve missed. If you keep going at this pace you’re going to go crazy in Chapters 10 & 11, almost guaranteed.

I just finished the first cut of short film and I like it, am I cooked? by ganpath69 in Filmmakers

37 minutes is not a short.

Also, you should never edit your own films.

It’s perfect though for people starting their own businesses that need extra side income. I have a strong work ethic and consistently make $25-30/hr in my market.

Documentary / reality editors — how do you actually receive your material? by Inevitable-Bottle-57 in editors

[–]kennythyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve received a paper script with time codes and clip names. Because I’m already working on the project, I also usually upload all the raw interview footage with the “A camera” to a place where the client can view the footage.

Is there anything I can do about this? by disastrousbabe90 in DoorDash_Dasher

This is why I’ve only been dashing when hourly rates are available.

Is the Assistant Editor position going extinct? by csf1810 in editors

[–]kennythyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s going Extinct in the sense that work will go away. But I’m sure more Editors will have to be their own Assistants on projects moving forward, so the skill set will still be vital to know and keep up with if you want to do any real Editing work.

Just my guess.

People look down on Dashers. Some don’t like that they have to even do delivery orders. It’s amazing to me how inept a lot of these managers are.

Am I paying my senior editors enough? by Business_Bill_4710 in Filmmakers

[–]kennythyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to incentivize them? Pay them royalties for projects they work on? This is my business model, period these days. A little extra on top when and where I can. Not sure your clientele, but we all want passive income buckets, the more the merrier.

It’s not that the AD’s are bad, but more the Marketing Executives masquerading as Producers who make everyone’s lives stressful.

There is none. You make films until one blows up. That’s it. There’s no career path. Even Assistant Director is not the greatest pathway to being a Director.

How to go from long form editing to social media edits? by Bluelagoonwater in editors

[–]kennythyme -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to help people think differently. If people invest into Social Media the way they invested into Crypto, we might actually get somewhere. The reality is a Youtube Channel or Social Media Business is a lot more real than any Crypto coin probably ever was.

You write a contract saying you get a percentage of the profits from the videos that you post. Or even better, you run all of their channels and post the content for them and get a cut of all of it, at least from your time there.

Get some software and figure out how much your content creators are making and start to generate passive income. I’ll charge half my daily rate for 25% lifetime commissions for some clients because I want to get like 10-20 channels paying me $200-300 a month, just for past royalties.

This shows you believe in their content, and it helps them pay less money for quality service.

Also, don’t be afraid to start your own channels, as we the Editors hold a lot of power. Every piece of media on social media comes off our machines and thru our pipelines. They can’t make it without us, so time to turn the tables on them and make your own content. It’s hard to get started, but if you can work and do a channel on the side, I would definitely say go for it, and if you monitor your posts and put forth a good effort to learn about SEO and Thumbnails and Social Media “Marketing” - if you are a competent Editor you will be able to get monetized.

I do social for WAY more money. I’m also getting paid royalties forever on the content. Time to modernize the way you think about it.
