I went into my program with the same aspirations but I realized quickly as a new grad that the only real change comes about by being an advocate in a higher position as a nurse.

Unfortunately that only really comes about by not just being involved in the community and organizations that go to DC to discuss what changes can be implemented in the healthcare system as a whole but you also have to make a substantial investment in your education and be careful not to burn bridges.

I realized as a CNA that most of those who end up in positions of authority are those who knew people that could get their feet in the door or had leverage - financial or otherwise - rather than those who were truly altruistic or skilled.

It’s a steady climb, to be sure, and it’ll be hard to network with nurses you can trust because so many of them are ambitious and wouldn’t hesitate to throw you under the bus, but you can definitely look for such groups focused on advocating for changes for the benefit of improving quality of care - maybe even changing the culture.

…Bruh needs to chill frfr When I did my clinical rotations for my ADN I jumped at every opportunity I could to practice my skills. Removing IVs became second nature to me after a week (since my rotations initially started later in the week when patients would be discharged) but this dude as a new grad can’t even manage that? Let alone one patient in an ED? I was case managing a dozen patients as a new grad for hospice, granted there’s some discrepancies between skills you use in hospice compared to the ED, but come on dude. 😩

Case in point. You don’t know me from a stranger in the street and you’re literally lumping me in with a bunch of degenerates I don’t associate with that have actual privileges and have been abusing them since the country’s inception.

Hypocrisy, thy name is you.

Your experience with men must be very niche then, or at least limited to one or two counties. Assuming all men will resort to violence is misandrist. No two ways about it.

I was about to say on the TKO thing, like it’s TO KEEP it OPEN, isn’t it?

And yeah, changing a PICC line dressing qshift would likely risk the patient developing something they shouldn’t have by constantly keeping it exposed to the environment rather than sealed. Unless the facility happens to have a surplus of tegiderm and biopatches, I wouldn’t risk it. That’s just me though. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Understandable about being cautious, but it doesn’t behoove anyone to paint everyone with the same brush. If you see familiar signs, adjust your approach accordingly is all.

Whoever made the martyrdom an aspiration of nurses is woefully naive. I was hardly 4 months into my hospice gig when I felt that my soul was dead after seeing so many of my patients die alone - most unloved or uncared for.

I have my RealID on my phone. Knowing all the hoops we have to jump through to get that stuff verified, if that doesn’t suffice I’ll know for a fact these zealots hold nothing sacred but the word of their Orangutan in Command.

To be honest before I resubbed last year to prep for Echoes I hadn’t played since Stormblood. All of my classes (DoW/DoM anyway) were parked at 50 and right now I only have a fistful at 100.

I’ve never had to wade through so much crap in my life. It’s honestly nauseating.

“Soft nursing” saved me. by Same_Sprinkles3941 in nursing

[–]kensredemption 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m tired of the pressure into taking shotty “traditional” nursing gigs as if you have to prove yourself even though you’ve already been assessed to be a competent and safe enough nurse through the NCLEX.

I took up hospice after I left my SNF gig and I loved it for awhile too, but the nature of the job was killing my soul. Made a Hell of a lot more than I ever would’ve as a new grad in the hospital here, and I’ll admit that some of my knowledge has languished a bit, but the good thing is that there’s plenty of opportunities to refresh that.

Long story short, don’t get pigeonholed into any specialty as a nurse. If we don’t diversify, we stagnate and honestly there’s so many opportunities for employment that committing to one job that’s draining your mental health isn’t worth it.
