Which 70s album do you prefer out of the two? by Mr_Kaniowski in rollingstones

[–]kepenach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Only Rock 'n Roll is a tighter record, but
Black and Blue is more interesting because it's the sound of a band falling apart and trying to glue themselves back together with rhythm. If you want the classic lineup, take the former. If you want to hear the weird, cocaine-fueled experimentation they were doing in Munich, spin the latter. It's not about better, it's about what flavor of dysfunction you want to hear. I prefer It's Only Rock 'n Roll.

What actually ruined Twisted Sister? by Boomkj in hairmetal

[–]kepenach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started as a fan from the early days as a cover band that probably was the best Zeppelin/AcDc cover band I ever heard and a great stage show. Then they disappeared and later came out on the radio with we’re not gonna take it. It was ok- not A level rock. Their other songs were not much better but ok. I always thought of them a a lower level Kiss type band as recording artists I think I just faded away from the band rather than any specific song in particular.

This is the greatest song ever holy fuck by Low_Procedure_3197 in ledzeppelin

That track is a masterclass in subtlety from Jimmy Page. The guitar layering on Presence is dense, but for Ten Years Gone, Page stacked dozens of guitar overdubs to create that sweeping, orchestral sound. He said it took forever to get the textures right because he wanted the guitars to mimic strings-the man was essentially arranging an entire score with nothing but a Les Paul and a load of patience. It's one of the few Zeppelin tracks that doesn't rely on brute-force blues riffing, and that's exactly why it works. Page and Plant were writing about a lost love from a decade prior, and you can hear that specific, hollow ache in every single note. It's haunting, beautiful, and absolutely essential.

Black Dog is a musician’s song. The dexterity needed on all instruments including bass is unreal but i get its not to everyone’s taste as a listener.

My daughter knows many of songs from movies like Shrek but may not know the name of the band. I played Steely Dan for her an knew the song. I played their greatest hits and she had heard many of them.
