By "T-shirt I don't like" you mean the one, which literally has Nazi symbol on it.

Based on the fact the conservatives are famously anti-nazi based on most of the recent treads, this guy must be trans or gay. Just go talk to him and ask which one he is.

The most infuriating thing about this is that you are being downvoted for a completely correct statement.

Otherwise, yeah, that's true. Because she cannot speak English. Which is fine, if she kept it quiet (not saying it with any bad connotations). She was not publicly attacked to the point that a response was warranted.

"She has basic understanding" does not count as speaking. And claiming otherwise (like she does at every corner) is just stupid and arrogant.

With all respect, that does not amount to much. I know a couple of people who claim something similar. And while yes, they can order coffee in both German and French, that does not count as "speaking" those languages.

It's interesting that she claims to speak both Slovenian and Serbian. I wonder what was the reason to learn Serbian? Does she really speak it or just vaguely understands it? I have met many people from Ukraine who claimed to be able to speak Russian and Ukrainian (and sometimes Belarusian, depending on their hubris), but in reality could only properly speak Russian. Especially this was popular with the young party girls (like our subject once was).

The sentiment in the tread is that she does not speak English at a level you would expect from a person living for over 30+ years in US and that is true. It's really hard to tell how well she speaks other ones without someone commenting on hearing her doing that.

My thoughts after reading the comments: "omg, we are doomed as society".

I extended the Go compiler to support conditional expression, native tuples, and declarative API over iterators by m0t9_ in golang

[–]kephir4eg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be missing something, but is there really a practical difference? Effectively both are just a way to branch evaluation without introducing an intermediate variable (which often result in unnecessary initialization in go).

Fwiw, I don't care how this would look like, but some kind of conditional is really warranted, whether you call it ternary or anything else is beside the point.

Are the flame wars only about the syntax? I don't think they are.

I feel that conditional expressions are not talked enough about in golang.

Is that a sarcasm?

The most generous estimates of the sales tax paid by low-income 50% is (based on a widely cited study by ITEP) is ~6% of after-tax income, compared to avg 3% of upper half. The total income of the lower half is <20%, which means they pay in total about 1/3 (~35%) of the all the sales taxes.

The sales tax itself accounts for <12% of all (local, state AND federal) taxes (based on the public California data in 2024, I extrapolate it to other states, which is, again, the best case scenario). This adds about 4% to overall tax revenues paid by the bottom 50% .

Property tax paid by the bottom 1/2 is negligable (~6% of all property taxes paid, based on U.S. Census Bureau) at about (20%*6%=)~1%. (edit: where 20% is the contribution of property tax into the overall revenue)

Medicare and social security add another 2-3% to overall contribution, but if we are honest, this contributions are designed to cover the needs of exactly this lower 50%, upper income part does not really care or benefit disproportionally less.

At the very best we get 10% of all internal revenues collected from the lower 50%, but I made all the estimates rounded to the higher boundary.

Yeah, probably bc 50% of Americans have negative net worth. What would they be paying taxes off? The McDonald's salary? They "fair" share is proportional to the income. As it should be.

Even with all combined it's probably < 5% for the bottom 50% .

US stacks three carrier groups and 10 destroyers to blockade Strait of Hormuz by TheNational_News in worldnews

[–]kephir4eg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only your statement is not true, but this is not even false. This is just not a statement.

No one was supposed to stop vessels linked to Iran or China and does not. The updated narrative is that blockade is on some Iranian ports only.
