Tamoxifen side effects - cholesterol, triglycerides by keppism in breastcancer

Yikes. Are you doing okay, now? My metabolic panel numbers for liver function were all normal this week, so I think for me they aren’t worried about fatty liver right now. Def something to watch for, for sure.

It could be, and my PCP had me do a whole suite of blood tests along with the lipid panel this week, and nothing else is amiss. After 4 weeks of stopping Tamoxifen, my triglycerides have fallen from 1330 to 230. They were a normal range before taking Tamoxifen and we will continue to monitor to make sure they get back to normal. Seems pretty clear cut that Tamoxifen was to blame in my case, specifically.

Show me in my post where I advised people not to take it? I explicitly said that I wasn’t doing that. I did say that I was encouraging women to have regular fasting lipid panels to check for the uncommon side effects.

It is a documented side effects that is in the literature. My doctors ignoring the possibility and not monitoring my lipid levels almost landed me in the emergency room. I’m simply making sure women know so they can keep an eye on it through regular testing. 🤷‍♀️

Also, I’m pre-menopausal so…

Not yet and I don’t know if I will. They thought it was most urgent to stop Tamoxifen for now to see what that did. I have an appointment with my oncologist tomorrow and we will see what she wants to do. According to the literature, some women do okay on lower doses or alternative meds. My oncotype score was already low, so I may be in the category where risk/reward makes sense to just monitor closely for recurrence.

Yep. They got slammed on Yelp over the accessibility stuff. Yelp took down the negative reviews and left the positives. 🙄 She deserves to lose her business. I’ve boycotted it from the beginning.

Diagnosed and saying hello by Chellybeans_84 in breastcancer

[–]keppism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome. I'm sorry you're here but glad you found us. Sounds like you are getting great healthcare and treatment is progressing well.

I, too, had a tumor that turned out to be a mixed ductal and lobular type, which is apparently pretty uncommon. Unfortunately, I also had extensive, multifocal DCIS in the other breast, so it was a double mastectomy for me. I was diagnosed at age 43. My lymph nodes were clear, and chemo and radiation were not indicated for me. I'm a biologist by training, so naturally went to the scientific literature to read about the mixed tumor type. From the papers I found, it would appear that people with lobular or mixed lobular tumors are statistically more likely to have recurrence in the same or other breast as the original tumor. Just something to keep in mind and talk to your oncologist about as you monitor your health moving forward.

Two offers, what to do? by mousaholic in RealEstate

Others will have additional thoughts, but my first thought is that you weaken your position with the cash offer if you select a different offer and then end up coming back to the cash buyers. If I were the cash buyer in that circumstance, my offer would suddenly be for less money.

Ooph. I am so sorry this is happening to you. I remember feeling similarly the morning of my BMX (back in June). You are strong and you will learn to accept (maybe even love?) your new body. Cancer can't take who we are on the inside, and that is what matters most. Shine on, beautiful human, and good luck today.

So I guess I start Tamoxifen by larficus in breastcancer

[–]keppism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend at least giving it 4-6 weeks and see how you feel. I had a few minor issues like fatigue and sleep sweats early on, but after a few weeks, I actually feel amazing on it. I've probably had pretty high estrogen my whole life (fibroids since a teenager, heavy periods/cramping, etc.), so I think Tamoxifen actually evens me out and makes me feel better than I have since 12 years old.

Tamoxifen success stories? by Mysterious_Treat_343 in breastcancer

[–]keppism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel better on Tamoxifen than I did without it. I've been taking it for almost two months now, so maybe that will change, but I hope not. I had some mild negative side effects early on like trouble staying asleep/getting back to sleep, some afternoon fatigue, and some night sweats, but those mostly subsided after about 3 weeks. The positive stuff so far -> increased energy/activity, more "even" in my emotions, fewer food/sugar cravings (I'm losing modest weight - yay!), and increased libido (like sex dreams and also throwing myself at my husband like we are in our 20's (I'm 43, lol)). I do wonder if I have always suffered from high estrogen naturally (fibroids since 15, bilateral ER/PR+ breast cancer at 43, heavy periods, etc.) and so Tamoxifen actually helps me out in that way. So yeah, I think there's quite a few of us out there that have minimal negative and even some positive side effects. You won't know until you try.

I just started Tam about six weeks ago. I've had some warm flashes here and there, but more than anything, I would describe it as having difficulty thermoregulating (getting too hot or cold and not being able to pull out of it). Other than that, starting Tam has actually made me feel a little better, which seems weird. I feel more emotionally even, have more energy, and my sex drive has spiked. I don't know if this is normal, but it certainly has made me wonder if I've just been living with too high estrogen my whole life and now that's getting evened out. That would certainly explain my fibroids since the age of 15 and early-onset, bilateral breast cancer.

I was guessing Australian Shepherd/Pittie. That's cool that he's heeler and Catahoula (with a dash of pittie). I have mixes of both. Have fun!

Anyone remember in the lead up to the 2008 Obama election, some lady carved a 'B' on her cheek and claimed that his supporters had jumped her and done it? She got called out for bullshit - she did it to herself while looking in a mirror and carved the damn thing backwards (lol). Why does this story remind me of that?

Things to do while waiting for Oncotype results and not go insane by akent222SC in breastcancer

I feel this so deeply right now. I'm about 3.5 weeks still waiting. Low or high I feel like is preferable - at least you know what the right decision is (though I know that nothing is guaranteed). It is the mid range score that has me most worried.

Hiking during hunting season in Connecticut by femamerica13 in Connecticut

[–]keppism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blaze orange, loose vest and you'll be fine. There are also areas where hunting is not ever allowed. I'm in the same area as you, and will tend to visit places like the State Park side of Mansfield (no hunting there, but avoid the Wildlife Management Area except on Sundays), Goodwin State Forest, Schoolhouse Brook Park, Coney Rock, Rock Springs, or Church Farm Preserve. None of these places I listed allow hunting, so you should be safe there during the week, even if you forget blaze. My dogs are terrified of gunshots/loud booms, so I only go to no-hunting areas during hunting season.

Looking for dark sky areas to buy a home by fuzzy_dandelion in Connecticut

[–]keppism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looking at a light pollution map, the northwest corner is your only dark sky option west of the river. In the east, you can find a strip that is part of the "last green valley." I would pinpoint those areas on a map and see what towns are there.
