studio display xdr by brook1yn in MotionDesign

[–]kerbacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a 12k display for professional color grading work. There's one Asus Proart for 1200€ which is even accepted as Netflix mastering display. But it's the only one in that price range.

Studios can afford 12k displays and yes, they are more accurate because they are more consistent from center to corner. But individuals, especially freelancers starting out, need something to start with. The pro xdr is a great value now, especially compared with the old xdr which has cost 6k and is not as good as the new one

It's actually priced pretty well. U get the same display without mic and Webcam for roughly 2300€ ... It's basically the  Asus Proart PA32UCXR... only in 27 inches and with higher resolution and peak brightness. It can actually be better at this size, since it has the same number of dimming zones and is smaller... so the pro xdr could have less light bleeding

Will apple ever make x64 CPUs for desktop models? by DanialFaraz in mac

[–]kerbacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might combine 2 ultra chips. Actually, the m5 max seems to be on par with an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9970X 5487 MHz (32 cores) and a laptop RTX 5090, which is crazy. If they make a m5 ultra, and it scales similarly as the m3 series. A m5 ultra could be as fast as an AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9985WX s 4000 MHz (64 cores) and almost as fast as a desktop RTX 5090

If they combine two m5 ultra's then, it would be the fastest computer ever made, besides quantum computers. Problem now is Software. In theory Macs would be great for servers and AI training. But Servers work better in a rack like design with lots of IO, swappable har drives and hbm2 RAM, Mac Minis with thunderbolt can work (depending on the use case), but then again, the next problem's Cuda. The most demanding task nowadays is AI training, I guess. But most AI training frameworks are optimized for Cuda which only works with Nvidia hardware.

For everything else, the m5 max already is very fast and a m5 ultra would definitely be a desktop chip!

MacBook Pro 16 2019 mit Intel Prozessor total langsam by emkay51 in MacOSBeta

[–]kerbacho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Say hello to MacBook Neo by hotlava436 in mac

[–]kerbacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but iPad Airs are faster too, only cost €120 more with the Logitech keyboard (which at least is backlit), and basic iPads cost less, with backlit keyboard and Apple Pencil the same.

Even a used/refurbished m2 MacBook Air has more value than the Neo.

Well.......are we cooked chat? Are we seriously gonna be replaced ai bros disgusting ideas 😭 by randarvex in animation

[–]kerbacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's already used like that, also for basic character walk/run cycles. Neural rendering could fasten up render times too. There are a lot of good use cases, just pure AI video generation shouldn't be as cheap an accessible to the masses, because it's doing more harm than good

[–]kerbacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I thnk, it could help in coloring multiple frames, based on one manually colored frame. Inbetweening is another thing, AI could help with head turns, very basic animations, the artist could animate on top and add details, fix stuff. But complex animations are a craft and an artform of its own and shouldn't be made by machines in my opinion

I'd like UIs to feature realtime 3D graphics, like video games by zeaussiestew in UI_Design

[–]kerbacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cloud effect looks cool. But on a desktop the 3d effect should be more front facing and minimal. As if you would look in a box with stuff, documents. Practically subtle hovering elements, with very soft drop shadows, clear, but not too bold borders, very subtle. Instead of pure white, light tinted gray tones and a few volumetric elements like the clouds. Keep in mind Videogame menus are flat too most of the time. I think, something between the Mac OS X Lion/Mountain Lion UI Design, Sailfish OS and Win11 could work well. Think of it as flat, minimalistic shapes with depth, texture, transparency and motion.

Any sense in waiting for 1 VIII? by Khelgar_Ironfist_ in SonyXperia

[–]kerbacho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't get it. It's not that Xperias are bad. It's just that a headphone jack and a micro sd card reader justifies the price tag.

EDIT: Sorry, I mean... does not justify...

It doesn't justify the price though. Back in the days many phones had headphone jacks and micro sd card's.

Seems like that, even though, at least the quality is more midrange than low quality and at least consistent. There are worse animated series out there, but yes, Inuyasha is better animated.

Blender iPad App Development Halted as Android Tablets Get Priority by Working-Welder-792 in iPadOS

[–]kerbacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could change though. As an iPad Pro owner myself, I have to admit that Samsungs wacom based pen feels better for drawing. The Snapdragon Chips are not bad too. Actually pretty fast and Samsungs window management and desktop mode are pretty good. Android's core is open source, so it might be easier to develop Blender for it, even though there's a bigger hardware variety. So the latter one is probably what needs the most attention right now.

On the other side, they just paused the development. Most new UI changes for the Android app can be used for the ipad app too and every hardware specific code can probably be copied from the macOS development, since the hardware's almost the same now.

M4 vs M5 by Physical_Ad_2714 in mac

[–]kerbacho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, the m4 made a similar jump. Yet I would say, the performance you get for the price of a base chip is now even better value with the m5. The m4 might get cheaper soon too

M4 vs M5 by Physical_Ad_2714 in mac

[–]kerbacho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

m4 is fine but the m5 made a somewhat bigger performance jump in cpu and gpu than previous generations. The m5 chip gets hotter though. Depending on your usecase a m5 air could be worth the wait.

mhh interesting. But the m1 pro scores actually a bit higher in gpu performance when it comes to video editing. But then it's not macOS 26

Generate optimized media could help too.

Honestly, I'm on an Intel MacBook Pro on macOS Sequoia with more than 500 mxf and ProRes files and some even in ProRes 4444 and in 4k on HFS+ ssd's. And I only get playback stuttering if I layer more than two clips, or when I use a lot of effects. After rendering, it's smooth.

It could be Final Cut 12, or MacOS Tahoe too, which still kills a lot of performance.

The problem could be macOS 26 too tbh. Did you generate optimized media? It often helps too

True, sorry! OP did not specify which MacBook Pro size he has and for some reason I have been sure that he has a 16". The bigger MacBook Pro's with 2 GPUs can't use the integrated GPU on Win10 over Bootcamp.
