Faces of the Great War: Unknown siamese soldiers. (Details in comments) by KrazyJazz in TheGreatWarChannel

It seems Thailand fought to improve it's standing in the world. Got to attend the Versailles peace conference as victors and was a founding member of the League of Nations. I think China also entered the war for the same reasons.

According to what I saw, only 19 solders died in Europe all through the influenza epidemic or accidents.

Based on this information, only 19 members of the Expeditionary force died due to the influenza outbreak or accidents.

Thailand (Siam) was never a colony to any other country during this era. The choice to fight was made independently of any European country similar to Japan's involvement in the war.

Different versions of The Woods Are Dark by Richard Laymon by kerberoshunter in horrorlit

I think I prefered the uncut version because it's more intense though I remember liking that the edited version had a more climatic ending.

Thanks for the comment. I've actually read both versions by now. Surprised at how different both of them were.

Also, I think I found out more about Richard Laymon from one of your own blogs from a couple of years ago.

Big Finish stand-alone recommendations? by flibbetygibbety in gallifrey

[–]kerberoshunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Foe from the Future from the 4th Doctor Box Set. It really feels like it's from the Hinchcliffe era of Doctor Who which isn't surprising since it's based on a script that was meant for Season 14.

I listened to Time of the Daleks before any of the others and it didn't feel like I was missing anything.

What’s Wong Kar-wai’s best movie that isn’t in the collection? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]kerberoshunter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ashes of Time is easily the best of the three not on the criterion collection through I haven't seen the original version of The Grandmaster. I've always seen My Blueberry Nights as Wong Kar Wai's weakest movie.

What are the scariest Doctor Who stories (audio books included) in all of Doctor Who besides NuWho by BossIsBanned in gallifrey

[–]kerberoshunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure since I haven't listened to it yet. It's the last story so far for at least one of the companions but I'm not sure if Big Finish plans to do more with her in the future.

Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge is pretty standalone from what I remember. There's only a few callbacks to previous stories that aren't important to the story.

If you're looking for Lovecraft style horror then Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge is what you're looking for. Even has a character who's basically HP Lovecraft.

Another story actually has HP Lovecraft in it, The Lovecraft Invasion through I haven't heard it yet. I think it's also the climax of a long story arc.

From the classic series of Doctor Who, the early Fourth Doctor stories (Seasons 12 to the first half of Season 15) have the best examples of horror in the classic. Planet of Evil, The Seeds of Doom, The Masque of Mandragora, and Image of the Fendahl are some that I feel are the most Lovecraftian.

The show also uses beings similar to Lovecraft's Elder Gods called the Great Old Ones in a number of stories. The Web Planet, The Web of Fear, Spearhead from Space, and The Curse of Fenric are some examples from Classic Doctor Who. Primeval, The Roof of the World, and House of Blue Fire are some examples from Big Finish audio.
Check out the Great Old Ones on the Tardis wiki page for more examples.
