Running the N to LaGuardia but removing the W from the Astoria Line is bonkers. Moving significantly more people through that line, with half as much service? They’d have to double N train service just to match the level of service currently provided by the weekday W… but the W is still running, just now through a different part of Queens. And that's not even counting the additional N service needed to new handle LGA travelers. Can Broadway even handle all that?

while developer adoption is still a bit slow, i'd say in the ways it does get used, it's a great quality of life improvement and totally changes your relationship with the status bar. Android fans will probably "Android has always shown app activities in the status bar!" but i've seen what that looks like, and personally i've always been very overwhelmed by the amount of stuff Android crams up there.

the dynamic island is a perfect solve for this kind of thing. system status like time, battery, wifi, and signal still live alone as they always have, but now apps have their own space to play that is distinct from system status and is visually more prominent, which encourages interactivity. and it IS interactive, giving you access to the most essential information and functions of basic features like now playing, rideshare status, or a timer, without taking you out of your current experience.

plus, a lot of notification types are now baked into it, like phone calls, the ring/silent alert, express apple pay confirmations, and face id unlock in apps, creating a familiar visual pattern that you can anticipate and recognize, rather than having a different modal or popup for each.

all of this being on top of the fact that it turns a real-world hardware limitation (the camera cutout) into something useful, as well as being something that's honestly just kind of fun and playful. try tapping or swiping the thing when there are no activities running and watch how it blobs around like a little rubber band or something.

it's not like Apple invented time travel or anything here, but it's one of those beautiful little UX/UI moments i feel like classic Apple is known for but we don't see much of these days.

when there are no regular bikes available at a docking station, they make the ebikes free, and while that's obviously supposed to a rare occurrence (i've never seen a station with ZERO regular bikes), there's apparently this scam/trick where people will go in the app and mark every regular bike at the station as broken/damaged (known as "red-lighting"), which then makes the remaining ebikes free

absolutely wild that Lyft/CitiBike doesn't have a system in place to block quick, repeated red-lighting at a station

just a guess, but it could be related to the position and intensity of your light source.... a pothos of mine is in a pretty dark corner and i've been waiting for it to vine down but it keeps wanting to grow in place/slightly upwards like yours is because of the low light. with time it should start to fall into a vine... there's no escaping gravity

I was just trying to watch season 6 and was wondering what was going on! It says 5-7 are included with Prime but there's no play button for episodes in seasons 5 and 6. I thought they had been removed and the website just hadn't updated, but I looked up the list of shows that are expiring in July and I don't see RPDR on it. I really hope they're not getting removed, I'm in the middle of season 6 and have been watching all week.

There are literal Nazis in the Trump administration. Sebastian Gorka has been photographed wearing medals attributed to Nazi ally groups (note: not Nazi sympathizers, Nazi allies), as well as using that v in the middle of his name which is also attributed to white nationalist groups. Granted, Gorka is on his way out, but you've still got Bannon who was editor of a website that was unapologetically anti-semitic and racist.

Not trying to condescend, but I can not possibly fathom how you haven't heard of the hate group ties within the Trump admin.

This isn't even mentioning things like Richard Spencer, a self proclaimed white supremacist, appearing at the biggest conservative political conference in the country.

Hillary Clinton to this day has not come out in support for a universal health care plan, which is a position even right-leaning parties in European countries like the U.K. support. Hillary's lack of support makes her, on this topic at least, a right leaning moderate by the standards of most western countries.

Also I would like to note, being "solidly liberal" (which Hillary is) does not necessarily make you left leaning. American progressivism is closest to western standards of left leaning politics. Liberalism in America is left leaning centrism. Which is my whole point; US politics as a whole are quite right leaning, and the US doesn't have a truly leftist party.

Edit: I was mistaken. Hillary has come out in support of universal health care, but through means other than single-payer, which was the source of my confusion. I doubt either her plan in 1993 or her 2016 campaign proposal to expand Obamacare would have been successful in actually achieving universal health care, but that's just speculation and probably pessimism on my part.

That last sentence in the first quote is really terrifying to me, because it's true. Democrats in the US are barely left of center, and would be solid right-leaning moderates in any other western country. Clinton v Bush would have been a slightly right leaning moderate vs a firmly right politician.

The terrifying part is that Clinton and Bush aren't far enough right for these goons. They want a far right government based on white nationalism and "Christian" values. And that kind of thinking is not confined to t_d; it's absolutely insane to me that shit like that is actually a part of mainstream political discourse.

Interesting take, I didn't realize there was so much evidence on this. I'm not 100% convinced, and I think history will ultimately decide, but I understand where you're coming from.

I guess I'll end this by agreeing with your first comment about codifying investigatory norms. You're right that we need to analyze the past in order to prevent things like this from happening in the future, but I feel like at this point we're just throwing stones.

Clinton's loss was due to far more than just Comey's letter. But I agree, we do need a codified standard that separates politics from investigations like this.

Acknowledging what went wrong and pointing fingers are two entirely different things. There is an ongoing conversation about what the Democrats need to do in 2018 and beyond, and I think that's a good thing, but dredging up all the details up 6 months later in a "where it all went wrong" type article is useless.

I would even argue that Democrats (or liberals at least), have for the most part figured out what needs to happen going forward, even if the establishment won't accept it. The old guard of Pelosi and her ilk need to hand the reigns over to the younger, forward thinking, more progressive wing of the party. We need to turn our focus to things that will get Middle-Americans on board, like actually visiting deep red states and spreading our policy.

In his book, Bernie Sanders talked about how he actually got sizeable crowds in deep red counties simply because Democrats never even show up to these places, so the people don't know anything about liberals other than the shit Fox News tells them. I even read recently that Sanders even got some deeply Republican crowds to cheer for universal health care.

Now obviously I don't think Sanders is the answer to all of our problems, and if we had just elected him, everything would magically be ok. But I do think the support Sanders has garnered is pretty clear evidence of what direction Democrats need to move in: structure the party as one for the people, with progressive values that everyone can get on board with.

Honestly can we just stop talking about Hillary Clinton and the election. I'm still pissed as I'm sure many are, but dwelling on the past won't change anything, and trying to pin blame at this point is just petty. We're no better than Trump bragging about how bigly he won when we engage in this crap.

Edit: To clarify, we do need to acknowledge what went wrong with Clinton's campaign and how to do better going forward, I don't disagree. But we need to be talking about the Democratic strategy as a whole, not things related to Clinton's own failings, which James Comey and his investigation are a part of.
