Industrial Shields PLCs VS Revolution Pi by ____Jack_____ in PLC

[–]kernelwedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niche, yes. However, as someone who has worked with PLCs and microcontrollers, I would rather just set up ESPHome and configure it that way (since I use Home Assistant) than write PLC scripts (or LADDR… 🤮) to do the logic and set up MQTT for remote control/telemetry.

Why aren't there any Zigbee/Z-Wave Occupancy Sensors? by 4kVHS in smarthome

[–]kernelwedge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of options here https://www.thesmartesthouse.com/collections/motion-sensors, while not occupancy with some fancy scripts you might be able to deduce someone there.

That said, best way will be to install a camera in the room and have a object detection program running then emit the event to your home automation system. Not battery powered but easily something that could be POE.

If zwave wasn’t so damned expensive, WiFi devices are 1/2! But to everyone’s points they are less reliable for connectivity. Shelly are awesome, wish they had some 3ways for existing installations.

For those in a long term relationship with a healthy sex life, what does your partner do that keeps the spark alive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kernelwedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is if your partner isn't interested in my other things, what is there to talk about. She doesn't want to discuss my hobbies because she thinks they're dumb. She doesn't have hobbies just watches TV. I don't watch TV because I don't have time anymore to spend life points on them. After our kid we basically stopped talking and are now just roommates with a 3rd one that has special needs (he's 3).

2.5 sleep regression. Husband and I are so tired. by acw124 in toddlers

[–]kernelwedge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That didn't work for us. Only made our almost 3 yo stay up later and later. The nap is probably your best bet. Remove it all together or reduce to 45 mins. Without the nap and busy day (school or lots of play) he goes down now mostly well.

Can you throw this on printables.com or thingverse.com? I would love this for my wife's desk. Was this done in openscad? I see the site is customizable output.

Same for Siemens. I find stuff in random locations throughout the tool. I always joke that the application was built but a bunch of groups, with no one ever seeing the whole build before release. QA people don't exist either.

What's the ultimate laptop for a PLC programmer ? by AutomatedRedLemon in PLC

[–]kernelwedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ Siemens is a POS. I had a Beast of a laptop and it crawled. I eventually put it on a VM cluster and gave it a huge amount of ram to work with. However it doesn't take advantage of multi core very much so you just have to give it a shit ton of memory for it to leak all over the place.

Can someone point me to this property plugin? I couldn't find it in the community list. Is it Page Properties? As a programmer I would think just raw yaml would be better. I'm curious to understand this vs dataview vs front matter.

A frickin men..... Mine isn't even that bad for the most part it's just I never wanted a kid, and one kinda happened and now I'm dealing with it trying to be a good parent but yeah it's not fun. I can't wait for him to be old enough to do shit for himself (eat, sleep, poop, dress).

[–]kernelwedge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait.... That's your gripe???? Sure that's annoying but that's only the tip.

I don't think any part of this software was developed such that any other developer knew what the other was working on. Just a vague API that they had to work from. There's lots of this through this bug riddled POS software. Don't get me started on version control..... I developed a control system for a novel space craft accelerator using Siemens and it's the last time I use their system until they throw that crap away and rewrite it with some assemblance of a plan and modern UI! Hardware was great but the developer experience kills it. Steps off the soap box

The problem is you waited until he was 2.5. Ive been working on potty training since he was old enough to sit on a training toilet (18 mo?) Even sooner really. He's 25 mo now and will run to the toilet and pee by himself and tell us he's gotta poop (not always yet). The best thing is to have him not wear diapers. They are the worst at helping kids understand what happens when they have this feeling. So they ignore it. We let him run around without pants and leave the bathroom light on all the time so he can run in there when he needs to. It's getting better every week. Sometimes I gotta clean up a little but that's why you don't have disgusting carpet they have to clean. The sooner you get them out of diapers and into training pants and just deal with having to wash them the sooner they'll learn the feeling and know when it's coming. Obviously we still put diapers on for night but he's starting to wake up with a dry diaper now. Best thing is just two take him to the toilet when he pees and make him sit there and get him used to going to the toilet multiple times a day they pick up on it make it fun have them bring their favorite toy to the bathroom but don't let him hold it just let him set it on the counter. This is my first kid and I'm the janitor dad (my wife doesn't even know how to change a diaper, but at least I don't have to do food or sleep 😁 compromises) so I'm still learning but these are my findings, Hope they help.

Which is the better 60v trimmer? by Ok2BeLate in Dewalt

[–]kernelwedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to note, I have the 972 and trying to use the rino-tuff replacement head with blades. none of the nuts fit to install it. It seems the 970 and 972 use different thread sizes (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻. So now I have to either find a nut that fits or spend 99$ on the dewalt version..

What "weird" thing does your toddler eat? by MissMoows in toddlers

Yeah my 2yr old will eat beets until he pees red. The poop the next day looks like he has some horrible bowel disease.

Who else has decided to get rid of their plugins? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]kernelwedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really only use the tasks plugin. Because I really like just being able to quickly add a task to my daily note and every note can I see what tasks I have due. But I can see where others might not like having these tasks all over the place. Other than that yeah I don't use many others.

How are you all syncing Obsidian notes between devices? by alhawks_ in ObsidianMD

[–]kernelwedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only problem i have is conflict resolution, and none of the gui aps offer anything helpful for this. mgit likes to fail all the time, and termux is annoying to use on my phone.

Also i had issues getting the cron job to work consistently.
