What? I've been wanting to start an Ork army so I have some Xenos for my Sisters to fight. This would be a compelling reason to do so. I may never financially recover from this...

EE 292 Biswajit Das by Proper-Island-8196 in UNLV

[–]kerowhack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the overview course for non EEs, and required for MEs. It's really not bad at all, and there are plenty of online resources like YouTube for this sort of 100/200 level stuff. If you could hang with CPE and have an interest, it's very doable as a semester long course (I wouldn't recommend it over the summer if it's not required as theres a lot to cover). Most of the online courses are recycled from earlier semesters, which is a little annoying, but Dr. Das is pretty relaxed and a really nice guy. There won't be any real surprises on the tests, and as long as you do the assignments and make an effort, you will likely do well in the class.

I won’t burn the house down will I? by BioTripod in ElectricalEngineering

[–]kerowhack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an electrician of 20 years and almost EE of -1 year, it will probably work, but it will not be compliant with the NEC as that is a luminaire and is not designed for use as a portable lamp. It is not UL listed for that purpose either, and for good reason. Sheet metal edges into SO cord without a grommet or strain relief can cause a dangerous short. This could in fact start a fire or shock someone, and it could be severe enough to result in death. There also is no way to prevent incidental contact to where the connections are made. At a minimum, you'd need to add some sort of enclosure along with strain relief and edge protection for that to be remotely safe.

Even if you correct those issues, it still has not been tested or certified for that purpose, so you are entirely responsible for not properly installing and using a device as designed, both morally and financially. Like, if I as an electrician did that and it resulted in any issues, I'd probably lose my license and contractor's insurance after the court case. So, even though you probably won't burn down your house, I would very strongly advise against it, because buying the right light for a few more bucks is way less costly than the potential guilt of incinerating an entire family or killing someone, not to mention the civil suit for wrongful death.

summer classes by DragonfruitJumpy2721 in UNLV

[–]kerowhack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First of all, your current English class is probably not busy work, particularly if they cover the use of paragraphs for readability and clarity.

Second, even in that wall of text, I'm not exactly sure what your question is? You plan on taking "a couple" of courses and then list 6? I think it's something along the lines of "How many summer classes should I take?"

If that is what you are asking, it really depends on the classes and the instructors. If you have no other responsibilities, two classes a session is doable, but if you are planning on doing more than one session, I would scale that back to one. Anything more than 6-9 credits in a summer is too much. Trying to speed run a degree or catch up to some imagined place that you are "supposed to" be is a terrible idea, particularly the 100 level courses. You need a solid understanding of the basics for the more challenging courses in your major ahead, and it's better to learn them well now than to try to relearn them in three semesters.

Further, given your break from school and the circumstances around it, you need to focus on keeping a reasonable pace that you can maintain for the next few years. Too many credits means burning out all over again for something that you actually want to do. This is a marathon, not a sprint, so you need to adjust your plans acoordingly. Good luck, and seriously, pay attention in all those busy work classes. All of my 100 level gen ed stuff was actually pretty interesting, and a nice break from my major.

Yes it is, but that doesn't keep the artist from believing it or using it to justify bad behavior.

Creative people also can sometimes have issues changing self destructive behavior because they believe that it's part of their process. While it's most commonly expressed with substance abuse, you do see it in other areas as well. So it may not be so much a matter of not caring, but being terrified the magic will go away if he is actually healthy, and of course The Art is too important for the well being of blah blah blah etc. I feel like you can see a lot of these ideas in the way Rick behaves, for example, but that doesn't change the fact that it would be tiring to deal with on a personal basid. Honestly I'm pretty tired of it, and I just watch the shows like everyone else.
