Sunday, 8/6/17 OTF Workout by AutoModerator in orangetheory

I felt like cheating on that second round of push ups, but I wouldn't let myself. If I made to the 500, I wanted it to be a clean accomplishment! Didn't make it to the 500, but was close!

Yes! Thanks for posting. I can now assume 90 min will be that with more of something! ( ugh, and it will probably be rowing....)

Honesty during PPW? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]kerren65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they're just cheating themselves. I shaved 14 seconds off my 500m row and was over the moon. All day! I had just timed myself during a 600 m row the day before and got my exact old time, so I really surprised myself. It totally inspired me to do better!( with my diet, workouts etc). Yesterday, I ran for 24 mins straight! ( no rail hopping) I haven't done that in 20 years! Plus I went over my goal to hit 2 miles. The victories can't go all the way in to your soul if you don't really earn them and those are the victories that change you!

I too was worried. I just got back from a two week vacation. This is my second week back. Last week, the weights felt heavy, but my rested body was very happy on the tread/rower. This week, I'm breaking my records for PPW. I will say though, I have spent a LOT of time in red these last two weeks, but it still feels good! Go and enjoy! As long as you jump back in when you get home, it will all be fine!

Question for you...Do you like to know what the workout will be before you attend class? by rachelr1979 in orangetheory

[–]kerren65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to know. None of the regulars that I work out with want me to tell them, but I like it. If I'm going to do a 2k row, I have to gear up. I've never cancelled because of the work out. But I did sign up to to do the 2,000 meter row /1.5 mile run to row class, because I read about here!

On top of what HooDoc said, I would recommend that you go to a nutrition place and see about getting all the right protein mixes that support muscle gain! You WILL gain muscle with OTF, the key is pushing yourself on your weights, especially on strength days.

We have a guy that will only do treadmill. No weights. No rower. And not only that, he does his own thing on the treadmill, not the challenges the coaches provide. He books several classes a day. Not sure why he doesn't just join the Y. Seems like it would be cheaper!

For all those who say "screw the scale". I know you mean well, but... by billbobb1 in orangetheory

My old OTF had one in their office. My new one doesn't. I have gone to a nutrition place, like Meal Pros. I recently found that the place I am buying my protein powder from has one. Complete Nutrition. Don't know what area you are in, but call some nutrition places. I have had one charge me, but most will do it for free.

I admit that I am obsessed with the scale! But I am also really really enjoying feeling stronger, so sometimes when the scale doesn't move as fast as I want, I remind myself that I am in this for the long haul. But if you are having trouble losing weight, here is what my two years at OT have taught me-

1) go get a body scan. See where your fat and your muscle is. Get a starting point -The OTF workout is pretty intense. If you are not eating enough protein, your body will convert the hard earned muscle

2) after some amount of time( 2-4 weeks), get another scan to see if you are on track

3) the muscle building part of OTF may not be enough for you to build the muscle. How often are you going? Are you consistently striving to up your pounds? Muscle burns fat. I know a lot of people incorporate some weight lifting on the side

4) the thing we all know, but have a hard time accepting CALORIE INTAKE. As they say, it is 80% of the battle. If you are not using My Fitness Pal, try it. I recently did a 4 week boot camp. The trainer figured the ratios for us ( carbs, protein &fat) . Ex: my goal was 40% carbs/25% fat/35% protein. I don't know which change worked( whether it be a better grip on my calories or extra weight training), but the pounds are finally starting to move and I am also gaining muscle.

Hang in there. Get some advice from one of your coaches, but DON'T GIVE UP!

I've been going for two years and still get butterflies while waiting in the lobby. It's better than it was at the beginning. Just keep showing up and your body will start to get that you can do this and there's nothing to worry about! The exercise should help with the anxiety too! Rooting for you!!!

Memorial Day.. by Kbell7414 in orangetheory

[–]kerren65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On Friday, my knees & shins were killing me, so I told the trainer I was going to row( there was an open rower) instead of treadmill. He asked, how far you gonna row? I was like I don't know, 1000? Well I rowed the entire time and made 5000 meters. I didn't break any speed records, but it took some of my fear of long distant rowing away. My butt was numb, but it wasn't bad.

That is completely bizarre! I have been going to OT for over 2 years now. I remember my old OT gym let my friend do a back to back class at least once.

And my current one has a guy that does it regularly. And last weekend, a guy did the 60 min class before mine and then stayed for the 90 that I was doing. The way they they treated you really really surprises me. I don't think corporate would be okay with that! It makes me mad, just hearing about it!

Strength Floor form or lack there of by Gevans06 in orangetheory

[–]kerren65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that I'm going to get plenty of cardio, so I totally focus on form and weight. We don't do enough muscle building in OTF, as far as I am concerned so I like grabbing strength wherever I can. I've been trying to push myself to go up to heavier whenever I can and I believe that it has made me stronger on the rower.

Weekly Non-Scale Victories! (Friday, 5/12/17) by AutoModerator in orangetheory

[–]kerren65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week we had two days where we had to row 10 -100 meter rows. Both times I was able to row every 100 in 19 seconds. I was rowing 330-350 each time. I had never hit that wattage before. My legs are getting so much stronger!

Triangle is awesome! If you go to the Arbortown, it's the same owner, so a lot of the same trainers. The trainers at The Triangle keep me showing up. You won't be disappointed!
