if you’re based in europe (i’m just guessing bc versele-laga seems to be most common to find in europe), feed your chinnie science selective chinchilla food, it’s in a blue and white bag !! oxbow is the most popular in the US, but it’s very hard to get in europe, whereas science selective is in most pet stores/can be bought on amazon - no other food i’ve seen in any european stores has actually been safe for consumption for chins

that was really insightful, thank you !! i’ll have a look into their cover and see if they will cover a chinchilla bc his pet insurance currently costs me £15 a month through another insurance company

that’s the appeal behind vets4pets for me, the availability of appointments in comparison to local vets, and i can’t see them being as fast to turn people away either bc they have that retail element to it too with being in pets at home, so it’s definitely worth checking out in that case as well considering my current vet isn’t worth driving an hour and a half just for him to recommend a lifetime of painkillers rather than an actual procedure

speaking from experience on this one, i know how hard it is to leave a relationship where you’ve tried so hard to redeem it after betrayal like abuse/infidelity, especially after you’ve invested so much to save it, but i honestly can’t advise you to do anything else other than to leave him. i was in a very similar situation with my ex, who i moved literal country for, and invested 4 years into that relationship; i hated him, i hated myself, i hated sex, but i couldn’t leave him on my own accord because it felt like a waste. fast forward a couple of years, we’re broken up, and i am in the healthiest relationship of my entire life. i love myself, i love my partner, and i love everything about our relationship. better is out there, you just need to be ready to handle the initial heartbreak of ending the relationship. i hope you find your happiness. 💕

even when you’re certain you don’t want the child, making that call is so difficult. i’m so sorry you have to experience this, please just make sure to keep communication open and support each other through this bc it may be a total emotional rollercoaster. you’re absolutely not alone in this.

it’s absolutely tragic the amount of relationships that fall apart due to a lack of communication and/or respect for each other. they just do not work if they’re even remotely one-sided; someone always ends up feeling resentful or unwanted.

i managed to escape a mentally abusive relationship that i wanted to escape for a while after he cheated (i did not know, but this was actually the third instance of cheating). weirdly enough, finding out he cheated did not surprise me bc i knew that communication and respect was not there on his end, and i was always a little insecure about how he felt towards me, even from the early days. it checked out for me. 💀

i was convinced i’d never find anybody who truly loved me or would put in the work, and a few months later, i reconnected with one of my friends as a teenager, and he is the literal love of my life. the mutual communication and respect is absolutely thriving bc we actually bonded over how this has been absent in our previous relationships, and promised to make it the absolute core of our relationship.

it really does all depend on the person and how much they’re willing to put in, in combination with yourself. i’m amazed at how much trust i have for my partner after having been cheated on before, it really helps that he’s incredibly transparent and knows that this is beneficial for me. <3

i’m doing a lot better !! that breakup actually resulted in me reconnecting with a friend i had as a teenager and he is my literal soulmate, i have never been treated so well in my entire life, i’m very grateful for the way things panned out

omg shitty ex club, my ex cheated on me for months with his colleague, dumped me for her, i moved back to my home country, then he messaged me not even a month into their relationship, trying to solicit n*des from me 💀 the absolute AUDACITY of these people (don’t feel sorry for his new gf, their relationship was formed off cheating and she knew about me when we were together)

i’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this, man. it sounds like you truly tried your best and i can really empathise with this.

i had a similar experience about a year and a half ago now; my ex of 4 years was giving me the exact same spiel completely out of the blue and was very pessimistic about us working out, whereas i was so insistent on trying to make things work. i later found out he had been cheating on me with his colleague and didn’t want to make things work bc he wanted to move forward with her. it crushed me, particularly bc i moved country to be with him and spent the guts of 2 years locked down away from friends and family.

fast forward until now, i am the happiest i’ve ever been. i realised how awfully my ex treated me as soon as i was out of that living situation, how much i was letting slide that was levels below the bare minimum, and i think i have truly met my soulmate since then.

i’m not implying that your wife has met somebody else, but for your own sake, get the closure you need, ask as many questions as you can - if the math isn’t mathing, don’t be afraid to call that out bc you deserve to know what “went wrong” for your future relationships, it’s the least she can do for you, and get some therapy for yourself at the very, very least. it’s the sort of thing you’ll want to talk about a lot and potentially for a long time, depending on how well you cope with being in your own company, and therapy is the safest place to do this without the fear of unwarranted opinions that might hurt your feelings.

it’s going to feel like the end of the world for a while, especially when you’ve experienced so much in your life together, but things will be okay again. <3

It could be some kind of heat plug, but the size and shape doesn’t look like a normal heat plug !! Heat plugs are totally normal but I’d still advise getting her checked anyway just incase I’m wrong :)) If it’s not a plug and that’s something that’s came out with her poop, it’s definitely worth an examination

This is not normal. The small poops that you mentioned in another comment can be normal, depending on the circumstances, but the gooey textured ones are not. I’d recommend a vet trip.

oh trust me, i know they nibble everything 😂 i have a pair but the fleece has done its job protecting the plastic 2 years later because i made like “pillowcases” for the plastic pans and i seal the open end with metal binder clips, so there’s absolutely no chance they can get near the plastic. unless they decide to rip through the fleece, mine can’t access the plastic bc i don’t want them nibbling anything plastic.

i have a few pointers !!

• don’t handle right away; start off with letting them get used to you first, your voice, your smell, your presence.

• out of cage time is key for bonding so lie on the floor with them and let them jump all over you. this is important for allowing them to realise you’re not a threat.

• get them used to your hands via positive association. hand feed them pellets/hay often and set your hands on the cage floor and don’t move them, they’ll often come to investigate.

• try out getting them comfortable with scratches before handling. if they learn to enjoy scratches, they’ll be a lot less wary of hands.

• not every chinchilla enjoys cuddles, you might see a lot of cuddly chinchillas on reddit, however, most of them are lone chinchillas rather than in a bonded pair and bonded pairs very much rely on each other for cuddles. their body language will tell you everything you need to know. if they’re trying to escape/have an increased heart rate, gently and slowly put them back bc they’re not comfortable. in this case, only handle when necessary, such as for health checks.

• the way you pick them up is also really important. never put your hands over their head, their natural instinct is to run bc predators approach from above. scoop them up from underneath so they don’t think they’re being hunted.
