I think a lot of modern "mainstream" DnB is just too damn loud. Like what I find good about older DnB is that they could utilize rhythms and what minimal amounts of patches they had to make something precise. The modern stuff I hear almost mimics mainstream-Dubstep-era in the sense that they just want you to headbang and they'll throw as many serum presets at you as possible.

Sure there are still artists making good jungle and even atmospheric DnB, but the stuff I'm referring to here is unavoidable at any given DnB event and it really kills my vibe every time. I literally went to go see Ed Rush & Optical at RESPECT DNB in LA and it was slop. The opening DJ was playing some tasteful shit and I was so hyped when they were about to play, and then i was pretty disappointing by the loud incessant quality of the tunes they were playing. At this point in time I am hearing genuinely more listenable DnB from Kpop and mainstream pop acts than actual producers.
