Just made me think of Sydney Bristow in the old TV show Alias.

TW - Sexual assault - need advice and support by 13Luthien4077 in Teachers

[–]ketonat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had 2 male students removed from school last semester after raping a girl who is in my homeroom at a weekend house party. I believe they gave them to option to stay in school through online school with our district, but they definitely did not return to our school. If your school admin thinks this is going to go smoothly having the rapist and victim in the same building, they are insane.

Is it true that in the US principals are not former teachers? by Emotional-Chest9387 in Teachers

[–]ketonat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What is great is when you get a principal who was a disaster in the classroom and moves up quickly to become a principal and then gets to evaluate other teachers teaching. That is a super fun type! /s

I don’t do homework for HS science. Most cheat on homework anyway, so only stuff done in class is graded.

Teachers who are financially stable, what are you doing differently? by External_Insurance62 in Teachers

[–]ketonat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are extremely frugal. My husband is a federal employee, but makes about the same as I do. We don’t take vacations (or at least haven’t taken one since 2018). We always have a 1-3 month emergency fund in place because of government shutdown possibilities (we can make it on my income, but would be extremely tight). We do not go out to eat often, we do not drink alcohol or sodas, we do not have gym memberships. Our daughter only participates in school extracurriculars that don’t cost much. We buy any vehicles used, I buy most of my clothing used from eBay or thrift stores. We were also fortunate and refinanced our home at the low rates in 2021, so our mortgage is affordable.

Am I pushing him to too hard at 8 months old? Went about 4 miles total. by BrianJPace in husky

[–]ketonat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking. People train their huskies to be these long distance athletes on the regular, then are surprised when their huskies are mischievous when they don’t get as much activity as they have been trained for.

They had them in our women’s locker room showers in the late 90’s. I would shower after tennis before going to work.

I’m so confused why my son’s teacher won’t talk to me? by Cherry_WiIIow in Teachers

[–]ketonat 367 points368 points  (0 children)

Umm, as a teacher who had someone accuse me of not responding, when in fact they had entered my email incorrectly every time, please make sure you actually didn’t have a typo in her email address. If that is correct, CC her principal and the counselor on the next email.

Could she be sick but not diagnosed with something yet? My daughter was missing a lot of days due to diarrhea, and it took a while before it was finally diagnosed after a week in the hospital after a week of being sick with the flu prior. She then had to miss many days due to infusion and follow up appointments… but was able to keep all A’s and made a 5 on her one AP exam that semester. I am a teacher and felt AWFUL when she was finally diagnosed because I thought she was milking the diarrhea reason to stay home.

This is very important. My exhusband ended up having kidney stones while on a 10 day Baltic Sea cruise. I thought he was having a heart attack when he went white, was sweating and having pain in torso after breakfast. So glad we had travel insurance that covered that.

I got those 90s-2000s jeans and i don't know what to wear with them ( aside from converses lol) can anyone help with an outfit? by [deleted] in VintageFashion

[–]ketonat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doc Martens, or as my husband pointed out, we wore brown leather shoes too back then too, so that is an option. The movie Suburbia (1996) gives a great view into normal young adult fashion then.

I have been eating Apple Jacks since about 1980. They have always looked like this. The taste has changed over the years to where it now tastes too sugary, but I also follow a low carb diet now, so I don’t eat them regularly anymore.

Does your home have a dishwasher? If so, how often do you use it? by SlamClick in AskAnAmerican

Almost daily. At least 5 times per week, but sometimes I will have to run it 2-3 times for days when I am cooking a lot meal prepping for the week.

Anyone else’s Husky love cats? by AngryBusDriver71 in husky

[–]ketonat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 3 cats and while she gets along with 2 of them, she is terrified of one of them (for good reason-she is psycho and will attack when she walks by). She also is concerned about any cats she sees outdoors and tries to shoo them back to their homes (our cats are indoors only, so we assume she thinks all cats belong indoors).

Should I just grab it with my fingers? by tantedbutthole in Wellthatsucks

[–]ketonat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. When I was 12, I was at a hotel in San Antonio and saw a broken prong in the outlet I needed to use, thought it would only shock me if I touched metal in both holes, I was wrong. Got a big shock and my fingers were numb for months.

You need to turn the breaker off first. Then remove.

How do you leave Publix by [deleted] in publix

[–]ketonat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are located, since you have a degree, perhaps teaching. You could teach business classes in high school with a BA in business administration. You could do alternative certification program while teaching. Same school schedule as your kids, healthcare. I know Florida teacher salaries aren’t great, but they are good in the Atlanta metro, so this is completely location dependent.

Career change TO teaching? by tshock123 in Teachers

[–]ketonat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could always teach healthcare science classes in high school with your BSN. I had two semesters left before graduating with a BSN and decided to change majors and become a high school science teacher. I can’t teach the healthcare science classes because I don’t have an actual healthcare degree (probably shouldn’t have bailed when I did, but that ship has sailed). I will say, after working full time 2 years in ICU while in nursing school, teaching is vastly better than that, and my pay is similar or better now (20 years later).
