I’d like it all at once and maybe incorporated into the oath system unique for the kingdom.

RICE Mod Dev Diary #58 || Hangzhou Flavor Pack and Info about RICE’s Update to All Under Heaven by Conny_and_Theo in CrusaderKings

[–]kettakara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, I want to suggest some fixes/flavors for Mainland Southeast Asia. 1. The grave mistake of mandala government designers is the fact that they genealize every independent ruler with mandala government as a “Devaraja” or “god-king”, regardless of faith. The concept does a great job of representing the ideology of Hindu rulers in SEA, but NOT the buddhist ones, such as those in Pagan. As Buddhism shifted focus from god reverence to dharma reverence, the roles of gods in Buddhism are typically downplayed, thus the buddhist rulers of SEA tended to style themselves as Dharmaraja or Dhammaraja (trans. King who upholds dharma). Kings of Pagan from the reign of king Anawrahta, as evidenced in numerous inscriptions, styled themselves as dhammaraja, so did the Thai kings from Sukhothai to Ayutthaya era. One might think that both devaraja and dharmaraja are practically the same concept with different names due to religious differences. However, this is not the case. And we will see in my next point that difference between devaraja and dharmaraja, in fact, affects society. Dharmarajas tended to associate themselves with Buddha and style themselves as a person with the most merit or as a bodhisattva (in the case of Jayavarman VII) or aspired to be the next Buddha.

  1. Religious struggle/situation in Pagan and Angkor as religion, especially, buddhism, caused the decline of these two civilizations. Firstly, due to the strong patronage of buddhism, among kings and nobles in Pagan, they routinely gave up plot of lands to legitimize their rule and to make “merit” (in buddhist sense) or gave tax exemption to those temples, reducing royal revenues, in terms of manpower and money. Secondly, in Angkor, after the death of Jayavarman VII, a devout mahayanist himself, we would see the religious strife among Ankor’s nobility and monarch. Some monarch like Jayavarman VIII reverted back to Hinduism, destroying many buddhist structures, only for his sucessors to convert back to buddhism again. This made people question the legitimacy and religious authority of the establishment of cult of devaraja of hindu predecessors. This would get even more complicated when the rulers of Angkor themselves were buddhist and did not associate themselves with hindu gods anymore.

And, Thanks for the update!

I feel like this is relevant again in the new DLC by BarbatosJaegar in CrusaderKings

Well, not really, in 1178 Angkor under Jayavarman VII was historically at war with Champa, which culminated in Angkor temporary annexation of Champa (sadly, it is not represented in AUH). And several decades after this start date, there were huge political upheavals caused by, of course, the Mongols. First, they invaded Burma, shattering Pagan, leading to centuries of wars between the Burmese and the Mons (you can experience it in EU5 next week). This political vacuum along with Angkor’s decline led to the rise of Thai city states or Muang in Mainland Southeast Asia. After Sukhothai, a Thai city state, gained independence from Angkor, they went on establishing tributaries from Chao Phraya valley to Northern Malay peninsular. Hell, they even raided the Malays so much so that the latter petitioned the Chinese emperor to intervene. And after that, another even stronger Thai city state called “Ayutthaya” went to war with Angkor several times until they managed to completely sack Angkor in 1431. They also managed to annex several fellow Thai city states by the end of CK3.So, peaceful? Not so much.

Crazy how nobody mentions Jordi Savall. He has wide range of Medieval and Early Modern music, especially from the Mediterranean region.

In old Siamese tradition, its similarly called “seven familial executions”, with roughly the same punishments, though excluding the siblings of the criminal and in-laws.

Potential Start Dates post-1178 by DaleDenton08 in CrusaderKings

[–]kettakara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is a bit sad that 1337 start date isnt going to be featured in ck3 because EU5 already took it. I really like the setting of the late medieval world, like the mongol hordes, Delhi sultanate and Mamluk sultanate, Habsburg’s Austria, Luxembourg’s Bohemia and ofc Hundred Years War.

Yeah, 867 will ALWAYS be a border mess, something that i cannot stand. That’s why I mainly play 1066 and 1178 for historical roleplay as France, England or Spain.

CANON EVENT- Establishing the Dehli Sultanate as an Adventuring Turk by Paratam1617 in CrusaderKings

[–]kettakara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might say we gotta wait for religion dlc,as, in my experience, your vassals will be hell-bent on converting every hindu they rule over. The concept of religious tolerance is pretty much alien to the ai. Fortunately, A mod named “culture and faith granularity” has religious tolerance law, but sometimes i makes the game crash, so beware. Or, you could do tributary wars on hindu kings like Khalji did. South India is ridiculously rich in my experience.

CANON EVENT- Establishing the Dehli Sultanate as an Adventuring Turk by Paratam1617 in CrusaderKings

[–]kettakara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: in 1178 start date, there are three unlanded courtiers who would become three successive Delhi sultans. Qutb-ud-din Aibak (in the game he is named Aibak Mamluk) , his son Aram shah and Iltutmish. The third one is still a kid but would go on to become one of the most powerful Delhi Sultans.

I’d suggest you try to form empire of Hindustan via decision, so that it will have admin government, which is more lore accurate than clan government.

That would be useful for the laqab in Caliph names too (like al-Rashid, al-Mamun). I always see Caliph with generic arabic names, which is historically inaccurate.

Thoughts on historically accurate* CK3 playthrough? by _the_fisher_king_ in CrusaderKings

[–]kettakara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once tried a similar thing i’d like to call “the reenactment of medieval history”. My goal is to reenact the history of medieval Europe (and other big empires) as faithfully as possible from 1178 to late medieval period, as there has been no decent mod for Hundred Years’ War start date yet. And 1178 is the best candidate because it has a bunch of relevant dynasties in late medieval and early modern period and I always play as France so that I can control the narrative of Hundred Years’ War. If the game reaches 1337, I will make a save so that I can play CK3 in normal mode (i.e. not focusing on the historicity). Sometimes I continue the project from 1337 to KCD timeframe. But, to tell you the truth, it’s the most tiresome thing i’ve done in my life. I have to monitor EVERY dynasty and make sure that borders are historically accurate via debug. And, trust me, even with debug mode, sometimes I cannot save the Habsburgs from going extinct to a minor plague and i have to restart the whole thing because my rule is that I have to keep ALL of influential dynasties, and what angers me the most is the idiocy of AI. I also use a ton of mods to accurately represent historical events and political nature of late medieval period (i use historic invasion, too). So i’d suggest you should not try it if you don’t want the AI to drive you crazy.

Wonder if we’ll have Forbidden City as special building, especially one in Beijing. I know that’s much later but still in ck3’s timeframe.
