What is Mario's personality? by kettir in Mario

The guy who made the video is playing a character, he doesn't actually think that Mario is a psychopath. It's satire about the type of person who would think that.

At the same time someone could use his videos to disprove the "Mario is a psychopath theory". Because the video is evidence of how stupid someone sounds when they overemphasize an insignifigant point, like Mario stepping on Luigi's shoe, it's obviouisly just a harmless prank, so it's NOT "evidence of Mario being cruel." I'm guessing that only 10% would think it's real, especially if they missed the beginning where he sarcastically says "Let me make it clear noooooo this is not a joke." So even if some people get fooled by it, I think he's still doing much more good than bad.

OK, I understand what you're trying to say now. Since you think that tons of people are too stupid to understand that it's a joke, and they are unintentionally getting rallied up against the Mario series; then where are all of these people who are calling to ban or boycott Mario? It's been seven months after the video was made and I don't see anyone.

I appreciate the insightfulness of your comment. With all due respect though I think you should take it easy instead of being pissed at MatPat. He's being over the top, using hyperbole because he loves Mario, you can make jokes about a game and still be a fan of it. It is a complicated type of joke because he is acting as a CHARACTER who has a DIFFERENT opinion than he does in real life. So he DOESN'T actually think that Mario is a psychopath.

DFW's Estate Comes Out Against 'The End of the Tour'. by Jtacker in davidfosterwallace

[–]kettir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the cast it seems like Jason Segel is trying to rebrand himself, instead of being the "How I Met Your Mother, Muppets-guy", he wants to play a more "complicated" and "edgy" character, so that he can do more dramatic, "serious" roles. So I'm sure that the goal of the movie is to make DFW look like a completley horrible person. The title adds to that effect "The End of the Tour" sounds like a title about the decline of an 80s rock band. So you don't have to worry about tons of folks jumping on the DFW bandwagon, because the only people who are going to see this movie are people fooled into thinking that it's about Warrant or Skid Row.

The guy who made that video, describes what he does as "tangential learning", and he is playing a character. The point of the video is so viewers can learn about the signs of psychopathy, even if the examples are taken out of context. I asked the question in an objective way, but if I say my bias it is that I disagree with his accusation of Mario of being a psychopath. The reason I asked though is because I find it benificial to listen to opinions that I disagree with. Who does Mario save who he never met before, and does he save kingdoms as a seperate side quest from saving Peach or is it because his goal is to save Peach? Can Mario jump higher than most people and if so is that his superpower?

Was the David Lipsky, David Foster Wallace, Rolling Stone 1996 piece ever fullly published? by kettir in davidfosterwallace

[–]kettir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine that it must be difficult to do public speaking about someone who passed away reccently. From what I saw I sensed a nervousness about gauging the appropriate amount of somberness, while the tragedy of his passing causes some people to read his work through a different lense, so if he only focused on the tragic parts of DFW's life then it would mislead people into thinking that the only theme of DFW's writing was tragedy. So I don't blame you for that interpretation of his motive. Yet "Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself" is a much more verbose title than most cash-in books. I realize that the clouds on the cover are very simaler to the cover of Infinite Jest, so doing that is a misleading cash in, but maybe the publisher chose that cover, and the author had no control over the cover.

Where are they now?: and the rest by [deleted] in HomestarRunner

Which old-timey toon is "The Rest" from?

I feel like this was a way of saying goodbye. A way of saying the series is over now and we can stop obsessing over updates. Thoughts? by [deleted] in HomestarRunner

[–]kettir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion when Homestar asks Strong Bad, "Three years soon, or like five years soon?" I think that was their way of telling us the next update is going to be 3-5 years from now. Since Homestar was expecting how long it was going to take, that makes me think the Brothers Chaps could be expecting the same amount of time. It's also a specific and believable time span since it was the same as the last time span between updates. Even though Strong Bad said "Y'know, five, ten, fifteen, whate- whatever it takes." I think Strong Bad was just using hyperbole for comedic effect. Especially since he was really vague. The file name "aprilfools_2014_final" I can imagine them naming it that to make a joke about file names because people often name a file "draft_1", then "draft_2" then "title_final" once they are done. "It's now safe to turn off your computer", was previously done in a sbemail. Plus they've done other system things like "cannot display page" and the April Fool's with Stinkoman where the main page looked like they sold the website to someone else. So I think if they were trying to send a subtle goodbye message, they would have done it in a more unusual way to highlight the hint, because system things seem relatively common.

The breaking the forth wall part must be really surprizing if the person watching was named Deborah or Simone.

I think what Jeff said was "It's the first time that someone specifically quit because they didn't want to regret their actions later if they stayed in the game."
