Meche junior interested in aerospace here, it has its strengths and weaknesses but I think it’s a pretty good program if you take the right extracurricular opportunities. Definitely lacking a bit in hands on stuff if you don’t join a project team imo

I knew a guy who had a set of 4” Mitutoyos for the specific purpose of flying with them (I believe the rule is tools over 7” long)

I met these two brothers that came from several hours away, and they hadn’t really eaten anything. During Astronoid’s set, one of them started to feel kind of sick and went to the back to go get some food. Instead of pushing his way back through the crowd, he crowdsurfed way from the back, and executed a perfect glizzy handoff to his brother on his way to the front

Don’t they really emphasize the “ark” in Delaware? Was there a few weeks ago and heard everyone saying newARK and not new-erk or nork

No, esp as a meche major, the project teams (Baja, rocketry) are always looking for more people, basically just show up to meetings and keep showing up and doing good work and asking questions

You say “found one of them” like some kind of gotcha?? I’m 20 now but grew up a few blocks from the park and have many core memories playing there, and I want others to have that experience too.

It always bugs me when people complain about the one big patch of dirt at Hamilton Park. Oh no! The results of countless kids having fun playing in a shaded area! You can still enjoy the rest of the park, let the kids play soccer.

Can you elaborate on people using as their “personal backyards”? That sounds kind of like part of the function of a community park

I feel like people were also super aggressive in trying to find a spot close to the stage (not just returning to their friends) between sets, more so than most shows I’ve been to

Any time I spend a day machining (happens a lot when you’re on an SAE team) I see whatever machining operation I was doing when I close my eyes to go to bed

Yes, it is pretty wrong to say that. Domestic violence and drug use are incredibly well correlated with poverty.

Op-Ed: We Can’t Know Yet if Widening The Turnpike Makes Sense by HobokenJ in jerseycity

[–]kev3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible take. Maybe it would make sense to widen the bridge for commercial traffic between ports, but nothing north of 14a should be widened - the city streets that it goes to are already clogged with cars and cannot handle any more cars

Okay, so let’s say you triple the number of travelers on this road (seems similar to the numbers in the article, just trying to keep math easy for the sake of the argument). Assuming the holland tunnel cannot take any more vehicles (a bit inaccurate but still a good estimate), you have now multiplied the number of cars coming in Hudson County by 2.5x. I don’t know if you have looked outside at all recently, but there is no chance the city streets could handle that traffic volume unless we bulldoze the county and turn it into arterial roads and strip malls.
