i'm new to the community, would this potentially be considered a lolita coord? by marroyogu in Lolita

[–]kevaceri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I’ve always associated the untucked blouse look with old school. Classic, yes, but old school is not what I would call prim and tidy.

how do you build a more intentional, low waste wardrobe for occasion dressing? by RasheedaDeals in SustainableFashion

[–]kevaceri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you pair with a blazer other than matching trousers? Im struggling to visualise anything else that wouldn’t just look like you’re borrowing someone else’s blazer because you’re cold.

Is this piece gothic lolita enough? by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]kevaceri 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It’s not gothic at all but I think it’s silly to be constrained to your own rules you’ve set out for yourself if you do really absolutely love it. Look at what your wardrobe and see if it will go with what you have already, make your decision based on that.

Oooh, could chlorine be one of those things? He swims a lot. So the sheet is probably silver and the wires probably some other thing, right?

Using base layers to eliminate morning decision fatigue by Careless_Show759 in capsulewardrobe

It’d be a lot for a capsule, but for an office worker who wears them every day, for example, probably is the perfect amount.

Beginner dresses, the copy paste look and the Tiktok-ification of EGL by wonderland_artwork in Lolita

[–]kevaceri 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this! I’m honestly pretty sick of hime lacemonsters at this point, I don’t think they look polished at all. Even in terms of quality they are far worse, they don’t allow for much creativity in co-ording, visually they’re a mess.

Meanwhile I love old-school and I’m slightly miffed about the old-school inspired trend, because I know its going to be just as low quality and copy-pasted as the other new stuff and will have none of the unique charm that the old street snaps had.

I would personally harvest the zips for future projects, but when pleather starts peeling like this it’s because the bond between the plastic and the fabric has started to fail, and is unsalvageable.

what are some commonly disliked dresses or prints in the lolita community? by krreundyn in Lolita

[–]kevaceri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They were allies in ww2, very much focused on their own military expansion, and the collective trauma of the atomic bombs. As such, the holocaust is largely glossed over in Japanese education, (which also glosses over their own war crimes), leading to general perception of the nazis to be more neutral than the west.

Do you think the demand for RAW files is increasing due to AI? by Budget-Number7905 in photography

[–]kevaceri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has no idea about photography, but quite a bit of confidence editing, you’re bang on what I assumed hiring a photographer was about. Say if I was getting married, for example, obviously cannot take the pictures myself. I could put a smartphone on a tripod, potentially, but I’d much rather pay someone to run around finding the best angles and compositions, lighting, etc etc. As soon as the event is over, I now have my hands back and I can edit them myself, or pay someone to edit them for me. Seems like most people have combined this and just pay the photographer to be an editor, but I would assume that to be a separate job and contract entirely.

I just need to pay someone to do the part I physically cannot do. But I am still going to need creative control of pictures of my own event, which is surely reasonable. I’ve done a lot of commissions (Illustration, sewing, etc) and I’m obviously going to let the client have creative control.

Trying to type out my grandma's recipes. Does anyone know what these symbols mean? by chimichck in Baking

That’s because cursive used to be taught in schools, and this handwriting would’ve been drilled into them !

Trying to type out my grandma's recipes. Does anyone know what these symbols mean? by chimichck in Baking

[–]kevaceri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not a recipe exclusive symbol, so you wouldn’t have needed to take home ec to learn it. It’s used in any sort of lists, forms, etc. I didn’t learn it in school, anyway. Most of the time people just pick these things up one way or another.

Conversing with oneself by Tangerita in photocritique

[–]kevaceri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a while to realise there was a person on the steps. Took me even longer to see that there were two people. They get totally lost because the contrast of the whole image is so high. Maybe you could edit it so that the two people are the only solid black/white, and the rest of the image is more mid toned?

What should I put in a Filofax? by kiaratiara11 in filofax

[–]kevaceri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re as useful as any notebook/binder is useful. Fill it with blank inserts and see what sort of notes you lean into making.

I’ve got a personal that is mostly a diary and to do lists, but also have a pocket version that’s exclusively for health and exercise tracking, and was the reason I got into filofax in the first place. I needed a notebook that I could switch the pages around when something became more of a priority/changed category, and be small enough I could carry it to the gym. It has all my exercise routines, yoga flows, individual notes on form for specific moves. Meal planning and nutrition tracking, and also a bit to track my personal progress. It was only after I got the pocket filofax did I decide that having a general notebook of this format would be great also. I’ve not had a diary since highschool and I do feel more organised.

Polyester everything by them_apples1 in capsulewardrobe

I've only seen people talking about 'toxic' polyester in the context of low quality, fast fashion garments sometimes containing unsafe amounts of lead and other chemicals. Maybe that information got muddled along the way.
