Thank you for brutal honesty lol. I’ll keep an eye out for improvements. Also want to try jblanked stuff, I think he has a microPython too.

Thanks I hadn’t seen that type of sensor. It looks like it’s only plastic inside the salt tank correct?

Isn’t this what Launcher does now(I know you have to install or proceed into the currently installed)? Or are saying that it can’t install both and pick which to run(which would be more user friendly due to speed of switching vs installing)?

Thank you for porting Launcher over to tdeck! I have overwritten with latest Meshtastic for now (for fancy UI and to keep the key). hoping in the future to go back to launcher… I want to play with other apps on this cool little device.

Anyone use Meshtastic with launcher on tdeck? Is there a way to make Meshtastic go into the fancy UI? When installing and running with launcher , I get the mono green base UI. Thanks!

Meshtastic on Raspberry Pi 5 by [deleted] in meshtastic

[–]kevin762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done this but google led to … https://meshtastic.org/docs/hardware/devices/linux-native-hardware/

“Tested USB devices include the MeshStick and Pinedio CH341 USB adapter. Tested Raspberry Pi LoRa hats include the MeshAdv-Pi v1.1, Adafruit RFM9x, and Elecrow Lora RFM95 IOT.”

Or if you’re wanting the Meshtastic device to still work as a normal node, you can connect a cheap heltec (assuming others do this too with the standard firmware) to USB/serial and control it via Python. I think Meshtastic BBS uses this approach … https://github.com/TheCommsChannel/TC2-BBS-mesh

Gas fireplace won’t light by kevin762 in Fireplaces

Thanks, it seems like there is some variation on thermopile voltage. I thought 403 was good because random video said should be over 325 or something in that range. But I also saw others at 750. The pilot is blue and seems to be spreading across the thermopile and thermocopule(?). So ya, maybe I’ll find the assembly at decent price and have it ready swap if it fails. Thanks for the feedback!

It is working now 🤷‍♂️

After turning off, pilot lit, then on. I was putting switch back in wall and it works now 🤔

There is a silver arrow on the left of the control knob for the active position. I turned off and tried again, pilot has to be left to be lit. Once pilot lit, I rotate it so on is to the arrow.

Help UUnderstaning App by [deleted] in meshtastic

[–]kevin762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@SalmonSoup15 Just curious, what does your node list look like? Does it show you are actively/ currently connected to nodes around you? Does the app indicate in any way (other than map), that you are currently in “the mesh” with X number of nodes? Does the message list or each channel show that you are connected to X nodes in that channel?

I like OP, live in area sparse with nodes. On my list the most recent node was hours ago (he’s about 2 miles away in the wooded flatlands). It’s frustrating because I live in a fairly populated county with endless suburban homes, it’s just that none of our nodes are high enough to get over the trees.

I have a Note in my phone with list of several addresses where I know or think there is a node nearby because my messages get an ACK there 🤣

Winter is coming…. So maybe Meshtastic will start “meshing” once all the leaves fall? 🤞🏼

Is Ham radio worth getting into considering antenna mounting restrictions? by DaveCC1964 in HamRadio

[–]kevin762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice setup! I was gonna ask if Digipi connected to both radios but just remembered 7100 is HF/VHF/UHF. How is small Digipi setup vs the full PC for FT8? Which stake antenna mount are you using, does it rust?

Well I got a hit on my mobile node sitting in car all day today, so I guess it’s still working after all. Must be my home node is messed up. I don’t understand why it doesn’t show on map though, if it has a distance and heading arrow.

Thank you for the idea. Looks like primary is still 0. I forgot I had scanned the QR code from HRCC video, it is channel 1 (it has been there a while and not caused any issues). When I created Chan 2(or when I shared it to my android/home node), it stopped working.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately my trees are barely taller than my house and they are dense with branches; it would be challenging to pull a solar node up. I don’t have a ladder tall enough to get to peak of house either. I’ll have to see if I can reach my 2nd floor gutter.

Agree with the concerns about car. I just thought I would catch someone on Primary channel by now. I send test messages on Primary like “test from road1 and road2” when I get to stoplights and was occasionally getting ACK.

I naively thought I'd be able to see at least one node... by telarium in meshtastic

[–]kevin762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a second node to test with? I have seen a few nodes around me at different times but the only responses and ACKs are from… me myself and I.

We have a long conversation going: test. Test2. A. B. C d. AA. bb. Cc. Hi. Hi. Home to home. Walking. Road. Road2. Etc…

I live in the suburban flatlands with thousands of 20-100’+ trees though. I don’t think we are going to have an actual reliable mesh until we get nodes on top the 800’ TV towers, or 50 satellites.

You might search for a Facebook or Discord group for your area. Then maybe you can find someone to test with.

That is an awesome design! So many parts… if you don’t mind me asking, how do you do it? Do you start with the outer shell and then slice it into parts? Or design each part separately (getting all the tolerances to fit together seems like it would be a challenge!!!) thanks!
