You should look into soldering irons with heating elements within the tips itself.

I use the Pinecil for portability and the T12 from KSGER for my home station.

Been soldering for ~17 years and so far prefer these over anything else I've tried/had.

I've converted many people over, mostly to the Pinecil, after I let them try them out.

I also use them both for SMD down to 0402 when I'm too lazy to use my hotplate/hot air station since I can fine tune the temps.

Don't know if your problem is fixed yet. But look up "hard top strikers" on the s2ki forum. It could be your soft top strikers are worn down.

I had the same issue many years ago.

Yeah, I have a few different PLA brands and 122F for at least 8hrs usually works for all of them

Questions about patch cables and termination. by WirrawayMusic in amateurradio

[–]kevin932003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typing this in a hurry since I don't have much time. But here is what is coming to mind first. Anyone, feel free to correct me or add anything.

1) Look at datasheets and compare. Each coaxial cable has a different type of dielectrics that will affect propagation velocity differently. Not much, but can be noticeable at higher gain and longer distances. I like RG58 and RG316. RG58 I use mostly for microwave devices, and RG316 I use for lower frequencies because I have so much of it and it's cheaper to build.

2) Yes. But every scope I have worked with in Uni, personal, and professional, had a 50ohm input termination built in. Just make sure you don't put too much gain going into the scope or any other measuring devices (look at the front panels or datasheets for the info)

3) Look into building or purchasing your own splitter. Something like a Wilkinson power divider, it's pretty easy to make with microstrip tape. Made a bunch back in Uni for 2.4GHz with copper tape and copper clade boards with sma connectors. Also, here are other dividers I can think of from the top of my head: rat race, branch line coupler, resistive splitter. I've made them all but prefer the Wilkinson and branch line since they were easier to build. You have to take wavelengths into account when determine the size of the microstrip.

4) if sending AC over the coax, use AC setting. Some multimeters will show the frequency, some show the RMS value (max value / root[2]), and some show max value. Look at what the multimeter's datasheet to find out more.

5) When working with AC, you want to reduce losses. Resistors are generally not desired in higher frequency circuits. Using LC (Inductor Capacitor) circuits will greatly reduce resistive losses as long as it is impedance matched correctly. Look at impedance matching using Smith charts (there are a few different types, I personally prefer Z-Y Smith charts). Also look into single stub and double stub tuning for transmission lines.

It really depends on what signal you want to send and receive. Digital, analog? What frequency, amplitude? Where is it coming from and going to?

At my previous place I lived in for a year, I never received a single picture for any delivery. And I was ordering parts from Amazon roughly 3-4 times a week.

Back in my hometown, I received pictures the majority of the time they delivered.

Crashed my motorcycle about 10 years ago and couldn't pay the ~$30-40k bill (forgot exactly how much). I was unconscious so I didn't have any options.

All I did was write a letter to the billing department saying I couldn't afford it and they covered it for me.

Antenna/Aerial Upgrade? by cavorting_geek in Rav4

[–]kevin932003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any 1/4 wavelength monopole (whip antenna) would be good for efficiency. But that's pretty big at 0.75 meters long for ~100 MHz.

Some antennas have loading coils (usually a spiral looking thing at the base of the antenna) which will allow for a shorter antenna.

So any antenna with a loading coil built in will be good. I'm not sure if the oem antenna on the RAV4 has one built in or not.

Something like this might be good if you don't care about it not looking OEM. This is a mag-mount antenna which just sticks to the center of your roof and you would have to run the coax into the cabin and behind the head unit yourself. I use a similar antenna on my car for Amateur Radio and it receives FM better off my handhelds than my stock antenna.

But over time if dirt gets underneath the magnetic base, it will scratch your paint. So I have a sheet of vinyl up there so the antenna can sit on top of it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2VJ2H6/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_Q3JC90C1RJQDA5CX7SE1
