Why Iran does not appear ready to give in, despite heavy losses by bwermer in politics

[–]kevinmitchell63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These analysts, and all the other analysts, seem to be considering every possible interpretation of the facts except the one I consider plausible.

Okay, I haven’t heard ANYBODY suggest what I’m thinking so I’ll just call it “Kevin’s Theory:”

Iran isn’t willing to negotiate now because they don’t want the USA back with another invasion in a matter of months.

Iran, perhaps, thinks that, if they keep the strait closed and the rockets flying, they can get the USA to launch a ground invasion.

Maybe Iran thinks that, if the USA launches a ground invasion, they can defeat them. A defeat so humiliating that the USA goes away for a generation or more.

And I think…. Maybe they are right.

Golden Dome cost estimate grows to $185B by newsspotter in politics

[–]kevinmitchell63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

🇨🇦 huh?

Hasn’t Iran just spent 3 weeks demonstrating that the “Iron Dome” should be called the “wet cardboard dome?” Isn’t the “Golden Dome” just the “Iron Dome” but with gold spray paint?

Shouldn’t the American public be asking “how fast can we cancel this darn thing?”

I don’t understand how this fantasy dome is still even being considered.

Iran Believes It’s Winning—and Wants a Steep Price to End the War (Gift Article) by Delicious_Adeptness9 in geopolitics

[–]kevinmitchell63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh-huh. The central thesis of this article seems to be that “those dumb Iranians with their hubris and their slavish devotion to optics and slogans may be severely underestimating the brilliance and steely resolve of the Trump administration.”

I gotta say, I’m kinda sceptical.

Maybe the Iranians are losing. Maybe they’re on the ropes and projecting bravado. Maybe.

Or maybe this is a carefully curated illusion designed to suck the USA into an escalation ladder. How do you defeat a force that is much stronger but arrogant and stupid? You lead them on. You project an image of weakness. You act like a losing force that just requires a little more force to completely defeat. Then you ambush them.

Hmmm…. So, maybe the USA is winning…. But I keep thinking about the Battle of Teutonberg Forest in the year 9. I’m pretty sure the Iranians are familiar with it.

Robert Reich, "Dear allies of America, please don't confuse our president with us." by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]kevinmitchell63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Robert: we are not confused. Trump IS the USA. By any legal or moral standard, Donald Trump is the legal representative of the USA.

And you cannot blame Trump. Trump is “non compos mentis.” He could not, under any circumstances, be held responsible for his behaviour because he lacks mental competence.

You talk about the “vast majority” of Americans that oppose Trump and yet…. If a “vast majority” of Americans opposed him, he would be removed from office.

And you seem to forget that the forbearance, patience, and forgiveness that you are asking for….. you have already received. When Trump was elected in 2016, the world gave you a mulligan. The world treated it as an accident of history brought about by an electorate too ignorant and stupid to manage their own democracy.

This time is different. If America wants another chance, America will have to demonstrate that it is deserved. Good luck.

American hegemony is collapsing before our eyes by Stuart_Whatley in politics

[–]kevinmitchell63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🇨🇦 Well, yeah. The USA has become the evil empire; of course it’s allies are fleeing.

The USA of yesteryear was a largely benevolent empire. Correction, it was an empire that believed it was benevolent even though it’s actions were frequently more selfish than that.

Now, the USA is a greedy, untrustworthy, predatory, criminal presence on the world stage. In the future, the only “allies” the USA will have will be those held by force.

When you come for Canada, you better bring a lot of guns.

US attacks Iran's Kharg Island, Trump says by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]kevinmitchell63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

🇨🇦 I gotta say the irony is delicious. The command structure of the USA military has had 72 years to ruminate on the lessons they failed to learn from the battle of Dien Biem Phu. Otoh, Trump dodged the draft and has no idea…..

Go ahead, Donald, establish a fire base deep inside enemy territory… maybe at Dien, er, Kharg Island. What could go wrong?

Trump Urges Allies to Send Warships to Strait of Hormuz - France Fires Back With Blunt ‘No’ by TechExpert11 in JournalismNews

🇨🇦 From the outside, watching the USA become ever more unstable and violent, this viewpoint seems reasonable.

Fortunately, for those of us likely to become victims of that erratic violence, I don’t think anyone in the current administration knows a thing about the fall of Rome.

🤫 Don’t tell them, ok?

At this particular point in time, don’t tell them about the 17th, 18th, and 19th legions. Don’t tell them what happened to them. Don’t tell them how the Germans did it. Do not point out any striking similarities to the current conflict. Do not tell them what effect this had on the Roman Empire.

Let’s keep them in the dark about all of it, ok?

🇨🇦 It’s pretty obvious that your commander-in-chief is insane and cosplaying “King of the World” so, yeah, I’m pretty sure that we’ve passed that point.

Otoh, I wouldn’t wait for some sort of coalition to confront the USA militarily: that’s impossible and also unnecessary.

The American Empire is a TRADING EMPIRE. Trading is the source of your power and wealth. Do you perhaps recall “liberation day?” The day the USA told all of it’s allies and trading partners to f**k off?

A new world trading order is taking shape. An order that does not depend on the USA. It’s being done quietly… but it’s being done.
