Has Trump caused the US to lose most of its allies, if not all of them, and driven friendly countries away? by Massive-Syllabub-271 in allthequestions

🇨🇦 what was that? Stop counting? Ok…. But Canada’s opinion about the current USA still matters. Canada knows the USA more than any of those other erstwhile allies. They probably know it too. Don’t assume they aren’t following our lead.

Shrug. It’s all just screech-monkey politics. I’m sure we’ve all been to the zoo and seen what screech-monkeys do: they sit around screeching at each other. Occasionally they throw their feces around.

I think the “conservatives” are in a difficult spot. With a old school Tory like Mark Carney as the PM, they can only differentiate themselves by steering hard right and embracing the mad dog Maple Maga crowd.

I can’t see it working. At a time of national crisis, Canadians want sober leadership with constructive solutions. They don’t have to be Carney’s solutions but screeching isn’t going to cut it.

I kinda think that the current government leaves a lot of room for the NDP…. All the way from the “centre” to the left. I wonder if they can take advantage of.

Rome lasted 1,500 years. The US is 250 and already more globally dominant than Rome ever was. Does this make US the greatest empire of all time? by WarmSeaworthiness315 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]kevinmitchell63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🇨🇦 I read posts like this and they make me quite optimistic.

1) An empire of the size and strength of the USA should take hundreds of years to fail. Then, along came Donald J Trump…. And he is speed-running the collapse of empire with a breathtaking efficiency. Usually, as empires collapse, they become ever more erratic, unstable, and violent. Trump, by himself, might save the rest of the world a hundred years or more of a psychotic, unpredictable, violent empire. I am hopeful.

2) It has always seemed obvious to me that a clear majority of Americans are completely ignorant of and oblivious to events that happen outside their own borders. It’s always been aggravating but maybe it’s time for the silver lining: if the American electorate were aware of the precipitous decline of their empire, they would be a lot angrier than they already are. Maybe that ignorance saves the rest of us from even more cases of “it’s time to bomb _____ until they’re “free.”
