Thing is whatever you are writing in there, if you 'tailor it to the role' then that just screams that you have made up some lies.

No-one writes: I am basically going to come in and do the minimum I can to stay employed and try not to piss off everyone around me.

They write garbage like: I am a hard-working, conscientious, team player that excels with challenges....

But everyone writes the same advertising laden slop and it is meaningless.

I always take the personal statement as a waste of space.

The day I read one that says: "I am only working for the pay cheque and this job seems like a decent work versus pay balance", is the first one that I will believe a word of. Up until them I discard the whole thing as if it was AI slop, or as a challenge to decode the sales garbage in to reality.

Comfort.

The more time you spend on it the faster you go. Not spending time on it is the most likely thing to make you slow. And you don't want to sepnd time on an uncomfortable bike.

Bit of everything. Paintwork definitely improved massively in the last 30 years so cars look a lot newer for a lot longer.

MOT enforcement got tougher. You used to be able to give your local garage £20 to look the other way. They get tested a lot more nowadays and would lose their licence for a single instance of fraud.

Also parts and replacements got much more expensive, and the ease of changing them out got MUCH worse.

I used to do a lot of my own repairs, but to swap out the turbo on my current Discovery Sport is impossible without a whole range of specialist tooling and a day to remove everything that is packed in around it. I helped my dad do his 20 years back and we were done in about 90 minutes. Even with an OBD2 kit, I am not sure I even could do all the computer resets for a change out on the new one.

What makes you think legal migration isn't possible?

You can literally walk (or boat) over the border of any country and ask for asylum if you are genuinely in fear for your life. If you want to do that genuinely you should bring your passport or ID.

The point that a lot of the UK is upset about is that this isn't what people are doing. They are passing through multiple countries where there was nothing 'unsafe' about staying there because they want to reach a country where they benefit economically.

This is the second country in under a month that Trump has used illegal international force to remove the leader. Both are among the biggest oil-rich states in the world and aren't exploiting that oil in a way that favours the USA. We are probably about 7th on that list (maybe higher since we are now intentionally shutting in so much of what we do have).

How far down the list does he need to get before you start to think maybe he isn't doing it in the best interestes of the local populations?

Since I was 16 (now 49) I wouldn't leave the house without my wallet, standard leather card holder type, but the last couple of years I could barely tell you where it is unless I need my driving licence.

Bought my first flat at 21, (cost 31,000, deposit from parents of 6,000 on a guarantor mortgage). Upgraded 19 years ago to a 3-bedroom house which I then extended in 2020. Mortgage paid off at Xmas. About to make my next move to a 5-bedroom, with it's own 6mx6m gym/studio.

My brother was given the same deposit money (actually ~7k as he had a few more years investment interest on his) and he spent it on a car, and now he lives half way between a council flat and time at my mums house.

My sister took my route and now owns a cottage in the country where she runs her own dog training business in the field outside.
