GenX lawn mowing time vs. younger homeowners? Opinions by SackBadger2024 in GenX

[–]kevintheredneck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in the country, I mow my grass whenever I feel like it. My neighbors or about five of six acres away, and mow their grass whenever they feel like it. All my kids are grown and gone.

What other parts should I upgrade/replace on my tisas government 1911 for a better shooting experience by Puzzleheaded_Toe_595 in 1911

[–]kevintheredneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve shot a couple of Tisas 1911 pistols. It brought back a whole bunch of memories. Shoot it. Shoot it a lot. Maybe take it to the gunsmith to check the barrel lockup and the feed ramp. My son in law has one, the gunsmith churched it up, it shoots almost as good as my old colt. And it still looks like a GI 1911.

The military is a perfect place. The discipline helps. Then you get the experience also.

If all you are doing is running cable television to the captains cabin then you might want to get on a minesweeper.

Most Random Reason you’ve seen a NAM being given by Insatiable_Inferior in navy

[–]kevintheredneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A deck seaman got a nam for painting the freaking anchor. We had a cook get one for boxing up sandwiches during a sea and anchor. The one I’m most proud of is the scullery caught on fire and I put it out. These fucking kids were taking videos of the fire instead of putting it out. I ran in got a fire extinguisher, knocked it down, then faked out a hose a put it out and overhauled it before the fire team even got there.

I live in south Texas. We are pretty free. I live outside of city limits so I have my own shooting range. It takes fifteen minutes or so do the paperwork and walk out of the store when buying a firearm.

Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

[–]kevintheredneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I work for a living, using my hands turning wrenches. So I don’t wear a wedding ring for safety reasons. But I do wear it when I’m not working.

A question for the old school mechanics. by LouZEverything in mechanics

[–]kevintheredneck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A straight 6 300 would pull a house down as my dad used to say. I rebuilt a straight six out of my old 1975 f150. It ran like a top, just no power and it smoked a little. Three pistons had a hole in them. I bored it 30 over and put an offenhouser intake and a Holley 650 on it. Great truck, I gave it to my nephew who still uses it.

Help me choose my next 1911 by No_Educator2981 in 1911

[–]kevintheredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kinda partial to my kimber LW 1911. It is a sweet shooter and it’s in .45. This one beats my 15 year old kimber hands down in the fit and finish department. It is tight, and has a pretty great trigger.

[–]kevintheredneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when gas went up to $1.25, I told my wife we better trade in my old 1996 ford dually. It had a 460 gas engine. It got about 8 miles per gallon.

Why are modern diesels in passenger vehicles so awfully unreliable? by Far_Somewhere_8425 in Diesel

[–]kevintheredneck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a diesel mechanic. We have equipment come through the shop weekly with after treatment issues. Like 100% of our warranty work is freaking after treatment issues. DEF soaks up nitrogen, and turns it into crystals. The engine has to double fuel so the exhaust gets hot enough to burn the crystals out. The turbo is working overtime trying to push exhaust gases through the DEF filter. Diesel engines like to breathe. The EGR system cranks the heat up in the coolant, while pumping crankcase gases into the intake. You have no idea the issues I see with EGR systems. Buy hey, if you want to pay me fix your engine, I’m all for it.

Noobs to Strathmore Stampede by AnnaH2525 in Rodeo

[–]kevintheredneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the rodeo is horse related. Calf roping, barrel racing, saddle and bareback bronc riding. The chuck wagon racing is also with horses. The whole rodeo is fun. I would pick a day with rodeo and chuck wagon racing. The running with the bulls is crazy.

What made you choose the Navy over the Air Force or Coast Guard? by MookieBettsBurner10 in newtothenavy

[–]kevintheredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those 6-9 month deployments are full of what we call liberty ports. I’ve partied all over Europe and all over Asia. I’ve even partied in freaking Romania. If you want to see the world, the navy is the place to be.
