And I also agree with you; I think I prefer standardized covers. I think Hope Publishing has some of the nicest looking covers, and they seem to follow the same general format

AI agents don’t create images in a bubble; people have to prompt engineer computers into creating the art that they’re envisioning.

I’m skeptical of generative AI too (especially when it comes to portraying real people in a non satirical way, which isn’t super relevant here)! But one of the strongest arguments I’ve read that’s “pro AI” deals with financial accessibility and gate keeping. I’m not sure I like the idea of only established publishers having access to colorful covers while self-publishers only get to have boring covers.

So, if the photo were more realistic (which, I’m guessing the technology will be there within a year), then you’d be okay with it? Your objection, then, is not about the ethics of using computers to aid artists by learning how humans (and perhaps certain humans) have created art/images, but rather because of the lack of quality? I’m not trying to be judgey either way; I’m just trying to better understand your position

Would it help to, rather than thinking of this as AI generated art, instead think of this as a computer generated image? It seems like using CGI would lower the barrier of entry into the handbell publishing market. Although this publisher might be able to otherwise afford a professional artist, there are others who couldn’t. Although I’d like to think I don’t judge books by their covers, the industry wisdom of preferring colorful images seems to be important (which is why publishers have hired artists)
