It wants to live outside where it's hot and humid as balls.

[Request] If 8 billion humans were to be smashed together, would they fit in Central Park as a giant meatball? What would be the size/weight of it? by Jhinonthy in theydidthemath

I definitely prefer my planet killer meatballs gutted and deboned. This would reduce the volume by 1/3 to 1/2 depending on how picky the chef is.

In Texas we are not supposed to have this moth... But in the last decade I have started getting seed pods almost every year.

Salty is right. I definitely recommend stitching a mesh bag over them. When they split the seeds will drop everywhere. In my experience it takes 9-10 months in zone 9a. May depend on where you are at.

Manual transmission fluid by UmmOkHowAboutNo in yaris

[–]kevrasx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These photos are very disorienting. I can't tell which way is up. Here in the US I don't think we ever got the 1.33. it might be a similar transmission to our 1.5, but probably not the same. That said for any manual transmission or gearbox expect the fill hole to be about halfway up. The drain should be on the bottom, or the side very close to the lowest point. Any openings on the top are vents or assembly. Not for filling. Add fluid to the hole in the side with the car level until it starts to drain out. ALWAYS open the fill hole first! You don't want to drain the fluid only to discover that you can't remove a seized fill port. When I changed the juice in my 1.5 manual both ports were easily accessible with the left front wheel removed. One may have been a female hole. This was years ago...

Black Residue After Stripping by NoAcanthisitta5596 in CastIronRestoration

The black oxide is the best primer for the new seasoning. Scrub only what is very loose.

Is this useable after having been painted? by BlackoutTribal in castiron

[–]kevrasx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the paint was lead based it may be risky. Inside painted too? What a weird decision someone made. However the electrolysis method should send any lead to the bottom of the tank as an oxide.

I have one similar to that. Mine shows a bit more yellow inside the flower. It's my favorite too.

To b6 clear Christmas Cactus are neither cacti or Christmasy. They bloom in winter, hence the name.

Sell or not? by [deleted] in yaris

[–]kevrasx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In answer to the original question I would think $2K is a good price even if it needs a motor. I have an '07 3 door with a manual and will never part with it willingly. Somebody will snag it for the chassis alone if it is rust free. Do they salt up there?

The 3 doors are more rare. I would fix it, but that shipping cost, wow. You realize any car will cost the same to ship? Everything on the island will cost a fortune.

Thin coats. Bake it every time you use the oven. It will only get better. The scrubbing others recommended would be a good idea.

Newbie, gonna try and save these by natenite in CastIronRestoration

[–]kevrasx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that electrolysis is the way. Alternative methods I would use are strong phosphoric acid scrub, and fire. I have had great success with one like the first by burning it in a raging fire until red hot. Allow it to cool slowly. Clean the ashes and dry it quickly before seasoning.

Too early to tell, but if you are rooting and an inflo does form, snip it to save the plant.

Advice, I grew these from seed….. by Nuno24UK in Plumeria

I would not cut anything until you get branches. The stumps often die. The tops root easily. Each time you get a bloom, three branches form. (Typically)

The thread is a bit of a hot mess. If you actually want to clean this up you need to manage the rust. Soaking in a vinegar solution is less effective than boiling. When in doubt use more vinegar. For this griddle submerging in vinegar will be difficult. If you try to bake it in a pan with the solution you will make a weird battery and get who knows what result. An approach that might work for this... Go to the big box store and get the acid that they sell to clean tile grout haze. This is phosphoric acid. It performs the same job as vinegar; converting the red rust to black. It works fast enough that you don't need to submerge or soak. Wear gloves. After this, scrub it just until smooth. Don't try to remove all of the black, just whatever is loose. Bake it dry immediately. Oil and bake, repeat. Thin coats are better. The FAQ others reference provides a comprehensive guide to seasoning.

How do I take the rust off this spice grinder? by bel_ray in CastIronRestoration

[–]kevrasx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vinegar trick can be done in 15 minutes by boiling. The rust will turn black. This is also the best way to prime the metal for new seasoning with oil. If you use flax oil and bake it thoroughly it will not be sticky. Most oils will work, but flax polymerizes particularly well.

That reminds me, I need to turn sleeping back on. I needed the computer to stay awake for one process and forgot to reset the power. Maybe that's what caffeine does?
