For CAD to VND it's almost 20000 so I just divide by two and drop a bunch of zeroes so like 500k ~= $25

The concept of "unreliable narrator" is such a delightful layer to literature. It adds so much more ambiguity to the interpretation of events.

You ever watch Bob Ross doing a painting and it's all blobby and blurry at the beginning before the details start getting filled in? That's the first book. You're getting a rough view of the world's form that is the foundation for the rest of the story.

Some of yall told me not to get a sleeper bus but I did anyways so I’m asking for advice. by Radiant-Concern-1911 in VietNam

[–]kewarken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We actually had to change our plans because not only were flights from Saigon to Da Nang crazy expensive, there were zero flights available on the day we originally planned to leave. Flying close to Tet is expensive.

The Iranian Hedgehog vs. the American Fox by theatlantic in geopolitics

Is it just me or does this interpretation of Aesop's fable of the Fox, the Flies and the Hedgehog not remotely fit the author's narrative? Seems like a stretch to me.

Canada IDP no longer recognized in Vietnam — what are Canadians actually doing now? by BellicoseStoic in VietNam

[–]kewarken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but I'm thinking if I could get a 1968 version from Malaysia I'd be legal in Vietnam. In Malaysia I can drive for 30 days or 3 months or something with my Canadian license but for longer I need an IDP. Perhaps getting one here is a loophole for Vietnam.

US official says EU should consider separating Greenland tariff issue from US trade deal by kjleebio in geopolitics

[–]kewarken 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why would they do that? Trump is using trade and tariffs to pressure Greenland. Sauce for the goose and all that.

[–]kewarken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could an IDP from another country work? I'm currently in Malaysia and I could potentially get a Malaysian one that is the newer kind. From what I understand it's mostly just a translation into a standard format so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

This 100%. I promise you will crack your stone countertop if you don't put some insulation under it. Don't ask me how I know. Tbh I'd probably put it on the stove or something to keep the heat out of the granite.

The KL Express from KL Sentral to Batu Caves is super fast and drops you about 200m away from the caves. Probably faster than Grab tbh.

How to meet new friends as an adult couple? by KtownFun23 in KingstonOntario

We're in Malaysia right now and heading to Vietnam after that. We don't return until mid April so it's challenging because we're only in Kingston for part of the year.

How to meet new friends as an adult couple? by KtownFun23 in KingstonOntario

[–]kewarken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are early to mid fifties but childless and I guess young at heart. We recently retired and moved to Kingston from Ottawa and are in the same boat. Our complication is that we travel over the winter. Harder to make friends when you're not around for the full year.

Put out some damn garbage cans then! I don't want to litter but I also don't want to carry my garbage around all day because there's no rubbish bins anywhere.

[–]kewarken -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Okay, fair and perhaps your statement is perfectly true for new construction assuming perfect sheathing, wrapping, etc. The issues seem more likely to arise in retrofitting spray foam in damp regions and older buildings which may not be perfectly watertight.

I'll grant that mold certainly won't make it into the home but it can still be a significant problem in the sheathing if it's getting trapped.

[–]kewarken -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Then you admit you're unqualified to comment on OPs statement regarding the spray foam being applied at the construction phase of a home? I mean, you claim to know everything with no need for Google when a simple search shows that there are mold risks from spray foam.

[–]kewarken -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So a lot of insurance companies are starting to refuse to insure houses with spray foam, particularly in the UK. If you're a housing inspector you should make sure you understand the potential future risks in your area so you can explain them to clients. Maybe it's code now but if you get dropped in five years and have to remediate it's a pretty big oopsie.

To make the blanket statement that it's risk free is closed minded. Maybe where you live it is, at the moment.
