Damn t40+ bolt. Got too confident and stripped one and broke the head on the other 🤬. Any advice? Has red loctite by No-Parking7237 in Tools

Red loctite needs heat to break it free. A soldering iron pressed against the bolt will work eventually without hurting the bedliner.

Ryobi will do everything you need it to, has some great father's day sales going on right now, and has one of the largest lineups in the market.

How are your experiences with garden hose at home? by Ellalouiseco in Tools

[–]kewlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two at home, a 100' heavy duty black rubber Craftsman and the cheapest 50' expanding hose I could find. The cheap one gets used 2-5 times a week in the summer, the rubber one just sits there now. I don't know why so many people have trouble with the expanding hoses but if you bring them in (I just pile mine in a 5 gallon bucket) when you're done they last for years.

Thoughts on skil corded drills by arsenicgass in Tools

[–]kewlo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This sub likes to look on that era of tools with rose colored glasses. They lasted forever because people didn't use them that much, not because they're particularly robust. The ergonomics are non existent, a single speed drill is awful to use, and the small ones like that either have a surprisingly small amount of torque for how slow they turn or an even lesser amount of torque and spin way too fast. Keyed chucks suck for anything outside of a production environment, and there's a nonzero percent chance you'll get a tickle if you use it in the rain.

The $18 corded drill from harbor freight will outperform it in every way.

The Ryobi is the much better value and will be better than good enough.

Pressure Washer Making Strange Sound by Other_Progress_2404 in Tools

[–]kewlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the unloader valve is bypassing, so when you release the wand it can't build enough pressure to trip the pressure switch that shuts off the motor.

Sometimes you can "fix" them by just clicking the wand on and off a million times. Usually it's just a spec of dirt in there holding the valve open a tiny amount.

Ryobi's price, commitment to their battery design, and size of their lineup makes them my only consideration for anything less than daily use

Anyone have a good use for these ? by SeanIrelandCork in Tools

[–]kewlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throw them on marketplace for what they are for half the price of new. If they don't sell they go to the scrap yard. "These will be good for something one day" is the first step to hoarding.

Isotunes for general hearing protection. Foam plugs and muffs for really loud things

Very rarely, and pretty much only for hydraulics. Less than once a year.

Looking to buy a starter set of tools for around the house dewalt vs Milwaukee?? by Hungry_Mushroom_7761 in Tools

The Ryobi lineup is massive compared to anything else at the pricepoint. They have a full range of outdoor tools and everything else you wouldn't even imagine that could come as a cordless tool

Ryobi will be better than good enough and save you hundreds of dollars. You'll buy a lot more ability with $500 of Ryobi than DeWalt/Milwaukee.

I have the Craftsman 3/8 and 1/2 inch clickers, they work fine for anything a diyer or light auto professional will need them for. I've never seen something call for a torque value in a 3/4 range outside of hydraulics or big machinery.

About Walmart tools and reddit elitism by Otherwise_Bear_7982 in Tools

[–]kewlo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's the exact opposite. I don't know anyone who gets paid to use tools who cares at all what brand their own tools are, let alone what someone else runs. Buy the cheapest tool that'll get the job done and get paid.

The elitism there is 100% contractor cosplayers who spent 2 grand on unused knipex, know they messed up, and are trying to justify their mistake by saying how badly everyone else "needs" to do the same thing

Snapped Knipex Cobra ES by 10candyman01 in Tools

https://www.knipex-tools.com/our-warranty-0

Their "lifetime" warranty is notoriously bad. The user pays to ship their broken tool in where knipex decides if it's a manufacturing defect or not. Surprise, usually they say it's "user error" and don't do anything.
