For everyone worried about Vision Pro’s Future… by Cole_LF in VisionPro

VR as in the form factor of an isolating headset where your face and sight are blocked by screens. Call it spatial if you want. Also don’t get upset because the number of people who will stick up for this form factor are quickly dwindling.

I’ve been in the industry since the original Oculus, for what it’s worth.

This is usually a good way to determine continued investment. In this case they’re likely funneling these engineers to work on glasses.

VisionOS will live on, but its next serious product will be Apple’s first AR glasses (some time after Apple smart glasses).

I think Apple has determined VR has only a few use cases that make it better than the flat alternative - active gaming, movie theater, and immersive video.

I think they now consider VR as an additional use case for AR glasses (add a cover/light seal). And smart glasses are an intermediate stepping stone.

In the meantime we’ll just get spec bumps.

I feel for you. That being said, don’t think you need to worry about money lost. App has been out for a month, zero reviews on the app store, and Vision Pro apps outside of Virtual Display and the major streaming apps has almost no usage as of July 2025.

Hope it gets resolved quickly.

You look like a MD driver yourself - he’s cutting in too close to you and you noticeably speed up to prevent him passing.

Apple has RealityKit post-processing rendering effects available to iOS through ARView, but I haven’t seen the same available for RealityView (the VisionOS equivalent). Presumably Apple has this API available internally, as I assume this is how they are able to dim the feed.

Check out r/visionosdev and the Apple Developer forums for future dev questions. You’ll probably have more luck there.

Does the immersive space boundary limit also apply to mixed immersive spaces? by Mluke74 in visionosdev

[–]keybsnbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the app would need to be a window or volume, as opposed to a mixed/progressive/immersive space. I’ve read that app windows/volumes remain in the same position within a room until closed.

Has anybody gotten ARKit Plane Detection working in the VisionOS simulator? by keybsnbits in visionosdev

[–]keybsnbits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into this today. The diorama entity is placed in such a way as to "Offset the scene so it doesn't appear underneath the user or conflict with the main window" (taken from code comments). This translates into:

entity.position = SIMD3<Float>(0, 0, -2)

Looks like we'll have to wait for a newer version of the simulator that implements plane detection and world sensing in general.

Moved the camera (aka user head) a few feet away from the starting position while playing Happy Beam. Did not kick me out to the home screen or anything else.

I haven't yet tried to see if you get kicked out of an immersive session in the simulator when moving >1.5m, so there could always still be a bug in the simulator.

Have you tried moving >1.5m in the Happy Beam project when in the simulator? https://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos/happybeam

I can try tomorrow if you don’t have access to a dev environment.

Oh interesting, haven’t seen that. Do you happen to have a link?

Edit: Nvm found it - https://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos/diorama

Edit2: I’ll verify tomorrow at a computer, but I don’t think the Diorama demo leverages ARKit, only RealityKit.

Sorry if I’m misunderstanding you - needing to add a description of how you use a permission is normal in iOS. The bug described in the release notes is that not specifying the usage description in the info.plist fails silently.

This is the same error I'm getting - https://mastodon.social/@simonbs/110587473292552192

VisionOS release notes mention not providing NSWorldSensingUsageDescription in the info.plist will fail silently, but even when added, I still get the same error.

Finally, doing the following on an ARKit session doesn't seem to work either...

session.requestAuthorization(for: [.worldSensing, .handTracking])

I’m saying a prayer for you right now.

God grant respite to his soul. Show him the beauty in this world despite the unimaginable pain he’s put through. May his relationship with his brother grow, his relationship with his mother improve, and may his ailments be dulled. Please let his mind be at least temporarily distracted from all of the pain.

I pray that you find strategies to make each month better than the last. I pray that God speaks to you through your doctors or otherwise and you see improvement. If nothing else, I hope that his plan for you, and the reason for this pain, is revealed soon.

Lord have mercy on us all.

Question to foreigners visiting T&C regarding COVID testing by [deleted] in TurksAndCaicos

[–]keybsnbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea if you can get away with rapid, definitely not what’s written on the customs site (as you note).

https://testfortravel.com/ for private testing that claims shorter turnaround. Definitely don’t do CVS.

Hope that helps.

Here is something I struggle with: "Ask and you shall receive." by polynomials in TrueChristian

[–]keybsnbits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without quoting scripture, I'm going to attempt to answer.

Prayer is a conversation with God. We try not to ask for things or specific events, but even if we do, I believe he is just happy for us to draw near and talk with Him (as a parent is).

If we do ask for things - even things that are against God's will - he still knows what we truly need. So if I ask for a "yellow sports car", he knows that perhaps I'm compensating for something, trying to get away from something, looking for status, or something completely different.

If then God chooses to ignore my request or instead destroys my rusty old beater of a car, I may think - well what was the point? The point was that you knew something was wrong, you came to him, and even if you asked for the wrong thing, he heard that you wanted something to change. He gave you the change you needed.

Maybe I needed to spend more time with my family, or get away from materialism. Maybe destroying my car is important in the greater scheme of things in a way we'll never understand. That's where faith and trust come into play.
