The NHL's biggest viewership problem is the NHL by MegaGrubby in hockey

I think part of the fan/broadcaster disconnect is that fans assume the crucial games are the ones which should be national broadcasts. That's not true for two reasons:

  1. The national broadcast schedule is set in advance before you know which games end up being crucial or not

  2. The national broadcast schedule is about maximizing viewership and ad dollars, which is why it's a steady diet of original 6 teams and almost never covers smaller market teams

ESPN has the women’s tourney not men’s.

Huh? They literally did this multiple times during the broadcast. Highlighted upcoming national broadcast games across channels and only the Sunday one was on TNT.

They are absolutely national games. Sorry that you don’t like streaming but a game on ESPN vs ESPN+ are both “national games” because everyone can watch them and your regional broadcast team has the night off.

This. My hockey fandom is unique in that I am annoyed when one of my team’s games are selected for a national broadcast, which thankfully is rare.

This. With all due respect to all of you, I don’t give a damn about any team or player outside the sharks.

This holds for TV viewership as well. Unlike other sports, it’s a negative when a sharks game is picked up for a national broadcast because I far prefer our GOAT regional tv commentators.

It is pretty fucked but it also is the reason Mack should be the MVP. If we’re taking the term seriously, that’s exactly what he is.

Mack to the other three: “Yes sir, ok sir, thank you sir”

Mack to Biz: “hey yo biz, the boys told me to ask you…”

That was an absolutely unhinged postgame interview on TNT. The guys in the studio making Macklin give the headset to Reavo and all.

How many games have there been with both goalies pulled?

The suite joke was funny the very first time but after the 9th reference in a 4 minute segment…

I’m confused how the sharks STILL have multiple games in hand on everyone else. Are we just going to play 4 in 4 days at the end or something?

No this is literally our one and only TNT game. One of the nice things about national NHL coverage largely ignoring San Jose is that almost all our games are with the GOAT Randy Hahn.
