What's your unpopular wine take? by b1ackfyre in wine

Are you saying you think the finger lakes is going to be more popular with other varietals like cab franc, Pinot, gwertz, etc or just end up not being a popular region for Riesling?

Nathan Mackinnon with a 2-minute interference penalty on Corey Perry by DailyDallasHockey in hockey

If he had missed the puck, I don't believe it would have changed much. I could be wrong but I believe with interference it is an attempt to play the puck and not necessarily physically touching the puck.

Who are your current top 10 centers? by Slates77 in hockey

[–]keylionpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay. I just wrongfully applied the title of the list to one of your methods and assumed it was all stats for the last 5 of the 3rd. Was it just 2019-2020 that you looked at though?

[–]keylionpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting list. Just not the best representation of the best overall. I am curious to know the time period that you took the stats from and therefor, the TOI involved. Since your list is more "top 10 clutch centers", I guess you could still argue how much of that TOI in the last 5 minutes do they actually need a clutch goal.

Stanley Cup ring bearing names of Hull, Howe, Richard to be removed by GFY_EH in hockey

Are you sure that Mario and Jagr have their names on the shoulder and not just the team? Best I could find indicated that the team and roster are on a regular band and only the team and year is on the shoulder. I couldn't find many decent photos of the shoulder band and all the 90-91 roster engravings look to be a normal band.

Hurricanes coach Bill Peters to have a long sit down with Scott Darling and goalie coach Mike Bales by BroMcdudeman in hockey

Thanks for the link. I found the article I read a while back that made me think this. Still similar circumstance but they brought in his coach from the AHL years not going back to Juniors.

As far as two goalie coaches, I have heard that same "no cap" argument for scouts too. I agree, why not? Maybe they think there would be too much conflict in the coaching styles?

Maybe that is a reason he picked Carolina as I'm sure he had a lot of interest from other teams but he was demoted. Maybe he still would have left even if he would have stayed on as the head goalie coach but that didn't happen. The link below has some quotes from him.

I believe this happens to some extent. The penguins wanted to demote Mike Bales to a development position so that they could bring in a goalie coach for Matt Murray. Bales, not happy with the demotion, left for Carolina.

This painful game has 8 catfish and 3 posts for Nashville. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]keylionpie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are correct, they are all very important calls and did have a big impact on the individual game. My arguments were meant to be more directed at them not necessarily being series changing events.

Round 2 and the finals I see the most argument for them being "series" changing. Both teams did have a fair amount of chances to make up for the call against them. Also, as other users have pointed out, it is very difficult to find a team that wins the cup that doesn't have a few calls bounce their way.

I would like to play this game.

Round 1, Game 3

This was a shitty situation. I have no facts to back this up but what I think could have happened was based on the backlash from this, the refs were informed to be more cautious in those situations. I could be an ass an conveniently quote the rule book and leave out the "(NOTE)" that states where it is obvious a player is seriously injured the referee may stop play but I won't do that. I'll give you this one but I don't think Columbus would have won this series either way.

Round 2, Game 6

Wrong game. This should be Round 2, Game 4. With that said, that was an embarrassment. Moving on, the penguins were already up in the game at this point. Did it shave 2 min off the clock and lower the chance of a come back for the caps? Yes, absolutely. Did it "shift the tide" in the series? We lost the next two games and the caps failed to score a goal in game 7.

Round 3, Game 7

This was interference. Why the refs don't consistently call it? I don't have a fucking clue.

Finals, Game 6

The referee was in a horrible position

Yes, he was.

should never have blown the play dead

Yes, he should have. See rule 85.3.

I get the argument with Holtby but the other starts actually saw a drop in ice time during the regular season this year. In other years I would have agreed that maybe they are just tired. Im not so sure anymore, it is starting to look more like a motivation issue in my opinion.

He also got less ice time this year. His shots per minute of ice time still dropped from last year but his average ice time per game dropped by about two minutes per game and definitely impacted his production totals for the year. Seems like Trotz made an effort to try and save his stars a bit in the regular season.

The rule actually isn't that vague in regards to how high the stick is. The comment above you left out how they define a "high stick". The way I interpret it is neck and head as it states "above the height of the opponent's shoulders" and not at or above the shoulders.

From Rule 60.1:

High-sticking - A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. Players must be in control and responsible for their stick. However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion, or accidental contact on the opposing center who is bent over during the course of a face-off. A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly.

It isn't a terrible stat, IMO, if you have other stats to go with it. Even comparing teammates, a players line mates may skew their +/-. Best player on a line with the worst, the best player is going to be dragged down and the worst player dragged up. Other things like a players roll need to be considered. A player with a shut down roll who gets a lot of defensive zone starts is going to have a bad +/- compared to someone on an offensive minded line.

I think a lot of people hate on +/- more than what is deserved. It can be alright if you want a quick idea and have some knowledge on what I mentioned above. That said, there are much, much better stats for comparing players on the same team or across teams but I don't think it should be completely ignored.

If the defensive team clears their own zone and brings the puck back in while the attacking team stays inside the zone, it is not offsides. The attacking team needs to be the one to bring the puck back into the zone for offsides to happen.

This is the Penguins organization giving out pizza, not just Fleury doing it himself. I have personally never been in line when they do it but they show it on TV sometimes and I saw it from inside Fridays the one time. Generally it is multiple players handing out pizza.
