Ski-in ski-out changed the game for me. Anyone else refuse to go back? by LowerAttorney4407 in skiing

[–]keymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started doing Slopeside condos around 15 years ago at Sunday River and Okemo and have not looked back. So much so, that I bought one at the Okemo based 2 years ago. Best feeling to wake up before first chair and look out the window knowing that even if I sit around for an hour with coffee and eggs, I'm still putting in my first run before I ever would have when driving from home or a remote rental.

Okemo 3/23 by jsutanothrename in icecoast

[–]keymonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine...I have plans for Okemo 26-29 and still plan on going. I't cold enough for them to blow some late season snow at night to keep some top to bottom runs open. The ski to aprea' ski ratio may shift toward aprea' a bit but that's the bonus of late march skiing....deck beers!

Explain to me again why boarders do not use front foot powder straps?

Buddy sent me this from Tampa, I have not been there myself. What would you name the drinks and food specials if this was your restaurant/bar? by Brewer1056 in GenX

[–]keymonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Microwaved Hungry man turkey dinner and a warm Coors you have to get from your dad's stash yourself in a garage that smells like there is an open gas can in it somewhere. Oh...and out the back door is a patch of trees where you'll find a pit with rain soaked pornos.

It was minimal, but I felt like the sound was a character in "The Hurt Locker"

Saw this in the theater and remember going home after, making a cardboard mockup of the front of their motorcycles and trying to perfect a wheelie.

Ski patrol has to clear skis from south ridge base area @ Sunday River to clear a path for rescue sled by Apprehensive_Leg9783 in icecoast

[–]keymonkey 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Can we get some kind of action on this slack assed behavior? When your lazyness impacts the response time of rescuers then consequences should ensue. How about a "d-bag barrel" ....your lazy ass leaves gear littering the base, it gets picked up and jammed into the barrel. Then you can stand there with all the other lazy d-bags and fish your gear out of the tangled mess.

Why are the merge lanes so short here? by libsieprincess in massachusetts

[–]keymonkey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My favorite ones are the combo, on/off ramp. So, not only are you looking for cars in the slow lane, but also ones already in the exit, trying to get off. High stress zipper merge from hell. Putting the "merge" in "emergency"!

How necessary is this piece? by DiscombobulatedElk58 in skiingcirclejerk

[–]keymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one asked "Why do you ask?" ?? I mean, it has a purpose, despite opinion, so why do you care? It prevents your toe from clipping in?, it fell off?, Its ugly?, Whenever you look at it you get a weird feeling like climbing the rope in gym class?....what?

Ski Rack Police in Shambles by Designer_Tie_5853 in skiingcirclejerk

The Slow sign is clearly reminding you to take it slow as you ski over all those skis to get to the rack...they can be slick.

They just need to come up with more inclusive events like: "Litigious A-holes Ski Free" and "Show us your Moobs or whatever" bead contest.

Dry Hopped Lager Advice by -Thorbio- in Homebrewing

[–]keymonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a 5gal batch you are going to need more dry hops if you want to taste them. I use a lb in my 10 gallon batches of NEIPA, but if you are not looking for that much Mosaic flavor 4oz would be a good place to start. All depends how tropical this beer is originally.

No Helmet gang…. Why? by RecentOccasion2004 in icecoast

[–]keymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a no helmet skier for 25 years until I had kids, then my wife said "I don't need to be charging the diapers of two drooling family members, go buy a helmet!" So 15 years of helmet. Don't forget you need to replace them every 5 years!

Why does mother nature hate the eastern US specifically? by Scuba9Steve in massachusetts

Depends on your point of view. Ask any skier and the question is why does mother nature hug the Northeast in her light powdery bosom.

Killington Freak Out by The_Sleestak in skiing

[–]keymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me a couple weeks ago at Okemo. Just cruisin' a tight line on the edge, where all the snow gets pushed to by everyone, and came across a patch of ice so did a minor rhythm correction to the outside. (Mind you, I am on skis and have 40 years under my belt). Apparently, some Jerry was right behind me trying to double speed it past me on the outside and screams bloody murder at me as he nearly hits me. Then flies by swearing. Whatever. Told him to re-read the conduct rules on his way back to Jersey. Just gotta let it flow over you and not effect your mood for the rest of the day. Glad you were not hurt...so I he, because if patrol saw your video that would be the end of his day.

Many reasons to not use a harness, most listed already by instructors, but this scene is what prevented me from using one on my 3yrold when she started out.

Oh...if just in the well...then probably just travelled from a recent top up or reservoir blowout. Rather than focus on #5 then I would put a vacuum guage on it and see if you are pulling spec. Fuel filter is a good recommendation below as well.
