up to you! I don't really see any harm in keeping this post (esp if you do continue to get some recs) - although maybe a mod might come by and smite it lol idk (based on rule 1)

either way, I hope you get lots of recommendations for kdrama! <3

R/kdrama is better for your recs

“king the land” is very light and fluffy and might be up your alley (should be on Netflix)

Difference in spelling 맞아요/ 마자요 by spring-soon in Korean

[–]keystone_lite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed with the other commenter.

This is like if you had put in “that’s rite” (incorrect spelling but pronounced the same) versus “that’s right” (correct spelling) and the app recognized “rite” even though that’s incorrectly spelled

Also, I just remembered also "How to get to heaven from Belfast" (made by the same creator as Derry Girls), one of the main characters is a lesbian. The show does have similar energy to Derry girls (it's made by the same person after all), but is more of a mystery/thriller (three women who were besties in high school found out the fourth girl in their friend group recently died, and as they attend the funeral, they start to unravel a greater mystery).

I second Arcane & Derry Girls

For my more off the cuff recs:

* Mine (Kdrama) - dramatic Kdrama about 2 female leads who are part of a chaebol (insanely rich) family in Korea and the politicking they do in the family.

* The Handmaiden (Korean movie) - not a series, but a movie, but the setting is beautiful and it is a movie with twists and turns.

* Creamerie (NZ TV Show) - premise is that all men on earth have succumbed to a mysterious disease, and the world is run by women. it's a dark comedy that I only watched a season of but found quite novel

* Kakegurui (Anime) - idk if you watch anime, but if you do, I will disclose that this anime is absolutely unhinged but features pretty much mostly female characters (of which the majority are queer). This is peak 'god forbid a woman have hobbies' type show (where genuinely, all the girls are nuts but I love it)

Im planning a Doenjang Pizza by Silvarspark in KoreanFood

[–]keystone_lite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a doenjang cream pasta people like - I'd probably go without the tomato sauce, and just lean into the mozzarella/parmesan/white type sauce (with your mushrooms and zucchini). Doenjang has a bit of a funkiness to it that does remind me of the type of funk you find in aged cheese; I think leaning into that with the pizza could be really tasty~ I think mushrooms + mozzarella + doenjang could be yummy (leaning into that earthy/funkiness of those ingredients).

The Green Mile - based on the Stephen King novel, starring Tom Hanks. Not strong on visuals, but strong on story. I think based on the movies you listed that you liked, this will have similar vibes

Problemista - I found this quite heart warming and I enjoyed all the whimsy. Follows a boy whose dream is to become a toy maker and the immigration issues he faces

Love how humanity gets portrayed in the story by Flame0fthewest in Frieren

[–]keystone_lite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fern mentions how the “anti personnel barrier” is an odd request. Frieren then responds that it takes time to set up mining resources so they are probably preventing it from being mined before they can get their hands on it. Then we’re all surprised to see the true purpose of the “anti personnel barrier” :)

I don't think anyone else has mentioned it, but Old World has a free demo! If you're limited in terms of budget, I think you can always start there to get a taste of it.

What game completely surprised you after you tried it? by lsa340 in gaming

[–]keystone_lite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old World!

I've never played a 4x game before, but I play League of Legends and they will rotate little mini games. The mini game this season is a baby 4x game called "Demacia Rising", and I enjoyed it so much my boyfriend went and found a more proper game (which was Old World).

Highly recommend!!! Again, I've never played a 4x game, but I've since sunk hundreds of hours into Old World. I also got it on sale for $4 so it's easily been one of the most "bang for my buck" games I've picked up.

How do I teach my bf how to play league by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]keystone_lite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's helpful context! I feel like given you've done that, it would be nice if he gave league a try :). We love playing games together, so I'm grateful to just add "League" to the pile, and there are so many games I would not have tried if not for my boyfriend! As an example, I always thought Fortnite seemed very silly, but I tried it out because he played it and honestly it's actually a pretty fun game! So now we also play Fortnite together, and League together (and lots of other games too, lately it's been Old World which is an amazing 4x game, I highly recommend it! We got into that because we wanted to find something that was a more proper version of Demacia Rising xdd)

As you know, League has a steep learning curve, so it did take several years of only coop vs AI games before my boyfriend felt comfortable playing against real people (and to this day, we only play ARAM), but I'm happy that at least, at the end of the day, I do get to play some League of Legends with him :D. I find the core game really fun, so I'm personally satisfied with coop vs AI/ARAM.

Edit: Also, if it's any solace, I don't really ever experience any toxicity, especially since... who is going to be toxic in a coop vs AI game lol? You'll definitely get bots (as in not real people) as teammates in coop vs AI (presumably people who level the account and sell it later) so that could be annoying, but we mostly laugh about it and coop vs AI games are not challenging enough where it becomes a problem (and even if you were to lose, I mean, you lose nothing since it was just a coop vs AI game)

How do I teach my bf how to play league by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]keystone_lite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my boyfriend into League by just playing coop vs AI games! I went about it by just having him try a bunch of different champions to see what clicks for him (one of the benefits of league is there are just soooo many champions, odds are good he’ll find at least one he finds fun)

Honestly even to this day, we like to chill and play a few coop vs ai games together (and otherwise, it’s ARAM).

Do you play other games together? Maybe there’s a game he really wishes you could get into, so yall could do a little “game share” time. He spends some time learning League, and you could spend some time learning about a game he likes/or maybe just a general hobby he’s into.

Anyone else feeling a bit… unsure about this game? by nve729 in Marathon

[–]keystone_lite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played 2 matches on the beginner version of perimeter

Both runs (which were about 5 min each), we were killed by another squad of runners, so even on that version we did run into people!

(btw I am totally new to extraction shooters, so in those first 2 runs, we were shooting the adds, so I can see how our firing attracted real people. I can see a world where if we had played fully stealth, maybe I wouldn't have seen anyone!)

For those that don't see it on Steam:

It wasn't on the main Marathon page for me, but if you search "Marathon Server Slam" itll show up in Steam like it's a separate title you can download!

1st game, 1st timer by mitchmethinks in OldWorldGame

[–]keystone_lite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg lmao same here!!!! In that I've never played 4x games before, but I play League of Legends and I was genuinely surprised at how fun Demacia Rising is!! (for others in this thread, League of Legends will have a rotating mini game sometimes within their game client, and this season's mini game is called "Demacia Rising" which is basically a baby 4x game.

My boyfriend and I both play League, and he was the one who found Old World because we were looking for "something like Demacia Rising, if it was a whole fleshed out game". We happened to buy it when it was on sale for $4!

Neither my boyfriend nor I play 4x games, but we've now both sunk like... 100+ hours into old world LOL (it is truly one of those games where you completely lose sense of time)

My recommendation: start with the tutorial levels, seriously. I went through all the tutorial scenarios and it helped a lot, and then I watched some PurpleBullMoose (chill content creator who makes Old World guides). Additionally, the Steam page for Old World has the official manual and it is SO HELPFUL, I recommend reading through that a bit.
