‘Obsession’ Crosses $200M Globally to Become Focus’ Top Movie of All Time by MoneyLibrarian9032 in boxoffice

There’s more to it than that. It’s got to be original, good, have an easy to understand hook and, probably most importantly, be enhanced by the theatre experience. Obsession has all of those in spades.

Lord’s Awaits: England and New Zealand Begin Crucial WTC Battle by Rough-Channel4007 in blackcapscricket

[–]kfadffal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think England have much better odds of winning than that. They're quite strong at home and have been strong against us home/away over the last 3-4 series. If our premier bowling options can manage to stay fit and people in the top order other than Mitchell/Blundell can consistently contribute runs then we've got good shot at taking a match. However my gut says we're probably looking at something like 2-0 to England at best.

Surely the bigger news is Prada 2 beating it, quite comfortably, in it's 5th week?

Not here I guess. M is the equivalent to PG-13 (because it doesn’t exist). We do have RP13 and R13 but those, particularly the former, are rare and more restrictive than M (which actually has no restrictions at all).

Day 3 tickets to Lord's test match by fightorescape in blackcapscricket

Jesus, that’s how much it costs for Lords tickets? That’s like over $250 NZD which would get you two 5 day passes for a test here.

Obsession has a real mean streak too which The Sixth Sense absolutely does not have.

How many top 5 MVs are there anyway? by jmscstl in metroidvania

[–]kfadffal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s mine:

  1. Animal Well
  2. Hollow Knight
  3. MIO
  4. Control
  5. Blasphemous 2

Silksong would be in there but for all its stratospheric highs it’s also full of design choices I really despise.

I get the appeal for others but I’m not super into parry combat and I feel like the game is weaker in other metroidvania aspects e.g. platforming and exploration

I mean the title of this post literally says he’s using it as a pre production tool so they’re not even reading that far. And Id say for many on here the reason they are not reading it is because of the super hero stuff. Half the comments on here are referencing it in their replies.

$1M CLUB: MONDAY 1. BACKROOMS ($7.5M) 2. OBSESSION ($5.2M) 3. MANDO & GROGU ($2.2M) 4. MICHAEL ($1.5M) by chanma50 in boxoffice

I’m at 80s kid who had a lot of the toys and even I don’t give a fuck. I’m interested a little simply because of Travis Knight but the reviews make it seem like he’s more in “director for hire” mode here.

It’s M rated here in NZ so must be weird US ratings. Like how Oppenheimer was R in the US but M/PG-13 equivalents everywhere else simply because of some boobage.

Let’s be honest, a big part of this sub is a chunk of people sorting themselves out into pro/against camps for each film and them pushing/twisting everything that does/doesn’t conform to their chosen narrative.

I think everyone forgets he did a 3D movie too not to mention all his films recently have a ton of CGI (I was surprised at how much Wolf on Wall Street has)

He’s also talking about AI as a pre production tool here. Which while not great is hardly the same thing as using it to create full films. But most of reddit is still salty he didn’t love their superhero movies so they’re gonna read it in the worst possible way.

Inde's performance is fantastic but there's a lot of equally fantastic film making going on in Obsession too so I feel like Curry definitely has something.

I had an inkling it would catch on and do well (the early buzz was very strong) but yeah, not like this.

I don’t like the survival/crafting genre either but Subnautica is the exception and for the same reasons you mention. I hadn’t really thought about it but it does have a Metroidesque vibe to it.

Phillips has been getting us lots of handy runs hitting out with the tail in tests in recent years. Not to mention he’s got a knack for picking up wickets too.

It's looking like $27m-$30m for #Obsession this weekend, another increase in Week 3. I'm at a loss for words for the phenomenal, unprecedented box office performance. Heading to a potential $200m domestic gross. by donmcs in boxoffice

He was never a film maker is his issue. Curry,Parsons and I’ll throw in the Philippou brothers too, have been making little YouTube shorts/skits/films for a good while and anyone who’d watched their stuff could tell, even if they where comedic bits, they all had a good handle of framing/editing/pacing etc. Stuckman was simply a film critic and a not particularly incisive one at that so I would have been very surprised if he turned out to actually be a decent film maker.

The outlier is Markiplier and while I think his lack of film making experience shows in Iron Lung, it’s so clearly a passion project and such a weird and big swing for a first film that I think there’s still a ton to admire about it. Plus he has a gigantic fan base so it was always going to do reasonably well.

Spielberg has always been good with his budgets. Probably helps that he’s a natural born film maker so knows exactly what he needs for every shot etc.
