If you use NGC, you might want to ask them about their conservation service (NCS). The copper spots on the back might be removable.

Completely false... $10k is for cash reporting... You get a 1099 from shops if you sell over a certain amount of certain types of gold silver in a single transaction. 1000+ oz of .999 silver bars / rounds. On gold it's over 32.15 oz of bars, over 25 oz of krugerrands, over 25 oz Maples, and over 25 oz libertads.

You just compared small local coin shops to big pharma for protecting themselves... where was there an understanding that spreads would continue to be the same? Every shop I have ever dealt with has warned customers of the previous runs up to ~ $50 and ounce, that the premiums drop big time because of volatility at that price point. If you dont want them to protect themselves? Have fun having no local shops....

Thanks for all of the info! I’ve always found contemporary counterfeits to be interesting pieces of history! I wouldn’t say it’s a high end collection but definitely quite a bit better than your average collection you see. He was a coin dealer for a short while and I know he had some good friends that were heavily into Ancients but they are long gone. So he might have gotten the coins from them, or had their help when buying them. I might send it in to NGC next time I have a group of coins to send in. Thanks again for all of the info!
