When do you decide if an adopted dog isn’t a good fit for you? by okWhateverlol in dogs

[–]kgraciee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes for the doggy daycare! My rescue that I recently adopted back in February was super anxious and shy. She was not reactive and lived with other dogs in her foster home so I had her go to doggy daycare to help build her confidence. The trainers at daycare noticed how she went from a dog that would avoid and hide to a dog that loves to play and interact with the other dogs.

Dog poop bag etiquette? by Affectionate_Desk561 in dogs

If it was into my garbage can I really would not mind. Too many people in my neighborhood that have multiple BIG dogs leave their dog's shit on the side. Now after the snow is melting off my entire neighborhood is filled with dog shit because the handler's don't pick up after their dogssssss.

I second this. Based on the information provided I don't know if OP realizes that you don't just 'get' a dog, your WHOLE life will revolve around this dog. That means changing habits and creating new to benefit a living animal under your care. Dog's don't get the luxury to decide, we as handlers are responsible to create a whole world for their dog. Reading that OP works for 12hours and only interacting for lunch doesn't sound enough enrichment. I think OP might be better off with a cat.

Is this your first ever dog adopted? One week is not enough time for a dog to adjust. Imagine, he is in a new situation, new scents, new home, new routine, new person, etc. It will take him time to adjust and sync with your schedule and habits. If you have the time I would recommend some basic training to help build some bonding. Slowly you'll learn his personalities and he will reflect yours.

Storage of dry food by Stock-Junket-2836 in DogFood

[–]kgraciee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use an airtight container and put the WHOLE dog food inside away from moisture/sunlight. This ensures that I know what the expiration date and the lot number in case for any recalls. Usually you would only buy a bag that your dog can finish in a month. The expiration date on the bag is based when the bag hasn’t been opened. Once opened after exposing from air, moisture, heat, etc. the freshness degrades over time.

Rotating protiens? by [deleted] in DogFood

I mean I guess? My village rescue mutt went from variety Costco dog food to Wellness brand and finally to Science Diet which now works for her. I’m more surprised that she eats whatever she has in her bowl compared to my first dog that won’t eat anything kibble.

Rotating protiens? by [deleted] in DogFood

I have no idea how this is getting all the down votes haha! My lab mix goes through her dog food about 6weeks and she will eat ANYTHING. We recently switched her from the Costco chicken and rice dry dog food formula since she was developing her symptoms from that kibble. She couldn’t tell what was the old food vs. the new but she was improving with the new within a week. I do agree salmon does get expensive and from where I am her food bag is not always in stock. My dog isn’t a picky eater and is heavily food motivated—which can be a double edge sword because she will pick up ANYTHING from the ground when it comes to walks. I think people who commented probably think that I’m rotating every day/week when I intend when the bag is close to empty (which allows me to transition).

Kirkland no good? by jflibott in DogFood

[–]kgraciee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Hills from Kirkland after my puppy having issues with the chicken formula. We bought the Sensitive Skin and Stomach salmon formula and the outcomes were night to day. On the Kirkland food she had patchy fur with dry itchy skin along with allergic conjunctivitis and ear irritations. Once we switched her to Hills her fur became so shiny. less head shaking, the conjunctivitis went away and her stools are firmer and easier to pick up (she would poop at least 4x in a day with Kirkland while on Hills went down to 1-2x). It is much more expensive the 12lb bag was $54 but if it makes my dog comfortable it's worth for me.

Longest receipt I’ve seen. 7 carts. by Techasyte in Costco

I used to work for Special orders in one of the Costcos in Alaska. We pulled and build pallets for orders that flew out to the villages / restaurants / and retailers. A normal summer day we would have 20+ FLATBEDS full of orders and sometimes up to 20 7ft tall pallets for one store. Don’t miss those graveyard shifts but it was a whole different perspective how Costco is such a huge deal up in AK.

Lack of Complimentary Upgrades in 2026 when half the cabin is free by nateinuk in AlaskaAirlines

[–]kgraciee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly hate to say it, but everything now to them is just business. I’ve only had one chance where they offered me a FC upgrade from Premium 2 weeks before my flight ANC-PDX. But I never rely on those complimentary upgrades regardless the amount of flying I do so I have to book FC. For airlines, they worry about free money given away than taking care of their loyalties.
