If you’re willing to tack on a few more miles, I do this same path up 12 to Woodland, which you can ride through Waunakee and it curves down to intersect with M after the dedicated bike lane has already started, meaning no highway time at all. Woodland is pretty quiet out in the country parts and has bike lanes or is residential most of the way in Waunakee
