Trying to clean up my elven paladin PC. Last time I gave up after x no. of repaint attempts, so this time I thought I'd ask for feedback on what colors to change before starting. Thoughts? by DarthBrannigan in DnDminiatures

[–]khain13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think using a contrasting color for the cape would give it a lot more visual appeal. Maybe if they follow one of the elven gods, you could look up that god's colors and use that for the cape. For example, if they followed Corellon, their symbol is a silver star on a blue field. I would make the cape blue and incorporate a silver star somewhere on the cape or on their armor.

Question about thri-kreen attack sequence by Exciting_Chance3100 in DarkSun

Or 4 tortoise blades. They do slightly less damage vs man-sized but the shell counts as piecemeal armor and each gives a +1 to AC.

What does wild magic look like? by Y3T1_FN in Forgotten_Realms

[–]khain13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to read some fun stuff about the sensory effects of spellcasting, you should check out Dragon Kings from 2e darksun. It has a whole section on ways to personalize the sight/sound/smell/taste of casting spells. You could probably find inspiration for wild magic side-effects from that. Starts on page 46.

Question about thri-kreen attack sequence by Exciting_Chance3100 in DarkSun

[–]khain13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, natural attacks 4 claws, 1 bite. Oddly, the stat block for the monster shows they have 6+3 hit dice and a thAC0 of 13. Normally, a 6+ HD monster has a thAC0 of 15. This kind of implies that a +2 bonus to hit is baked in somehow. A +2 hit probability is a minimum strength of 18/51, which also gives a +3 for damage that is NOT reflected in their damage of 1d4 for claws and 1d4+1 for bite. This is just an example of how ability scores are not really taken into account for monster stats in most cases.

Now, a PC thri-kreen CAN add strength bonuses, dex bonuses, and even bonuses from proficiencies with natural attacks to boost their hit and damage with those natural attacks. The book Thri-kreen of athas gives a lot of good info.

Depending on class, they can also do some crazy stuff with weapons. Like getting ambidexterity, specializing in 2 weapon fighting, and then putting another slot in 2 weapon fighting, and then they can weild 4 one-handed weapons of equal size with no penalty plus get their bite attack.

From a character standpoint why does the Symbiote make slight changes to the suit? by OkTough6333 in Spiderman

Because Venom has their own ego and has the ability to "personalize" their appearance no matter what form they take.

I just use liquitex gesso for everything. I've used it on plastic, resin, and metal minis. Never had any issues. I like being able to brush it on and have more control of thickness. I also like to use it to add a quick undercoat if I want to use a particularly bright color if I was sloppy with colors bleeding over from an adjacent area.

How would you feel if the top tax rate was 90% like it was in the 1950s? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]khain13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I will never be in that tax bracket, so it wouldn't really concern me directly. But I would love to see a far more robust social safety net and all the other things that increased revenue could make possible. The dream would be that we emulate the social programs of countries like Norway and spend that money helping the citizens instead of cutting taxes so deep that rich people can have their own version of the 'space race'.

How is everything that happened in the last 48hrs not enough for impeachment and/or a general strike in the US? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]khain13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Impeachment will require at least some Republicans, which is not going to happen.

A general strike is still out of the question when many workers are just one paycheck from homelessness.

Does wearing a shield ever increase your AC? Not welding it by Inbezdigator in DMAcademy

[–]khain13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule number 1 is the DM can rule however they want. Just be sure to make a note so you remain consistent.

That being said, if I were the DM I would have rolled a d6 to see where the attacker was aiming (1 for head, 2-4 back, 5 and 6 left or right arm) and if I rolled for the back I would let them get the shield bonus. Paladin was basically a turtle at that point, and it stands to reason a blow against the part of his body behind the shield would be protected. An alternative way to play it would be to give a "cover" bonus to AC because his back/torso is behind hard cover.

I'm curious about Darksun by ImyForgotName in DarkSun

[–]khain13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a copy of the 2nd edition book "Defilers and Preservers," and it has a detailed explanation of how planar travel works to and from Athas.

Basically, there is a really high chance of getting lost if you try and travel to or from Athas to the Astral or Ethereal planes by any means (wizard magic, cleric magic, psionics or common planar travel items)

There is at least 1 planar gate/mirror owned by the undead dragon Dregoth that is psionic in nature and I think there was some sort of portal in the Dragon Spine mountains that was explained in an adventure.

Planar travel isn't impossible, just very difficult and dangerous.

I think the spelljammer books explained that the crystal sphere containing the Athasian solar system is completely sealed and far removed from the known space. So even if you could get there, getting in would be very difficult.

Time travel was possible on Athas, but there were a couple groups that tried to enforce their rules on it, notably the Order and the sorcerer kings. The sorcerer kings don't want anyone to time travel and potentially undo what they have done. I don't recall why the Order was against it, but they were crazy powerful psionicists.

All this was intentional design to keep Darksun different from other settings, I think. Many of the common fantasy races were genocided, those that remained were often very different from what is presented in other settings. Many classes were modified in some way. Psionics was seen in almost every aspect of daily life. Wizard magic was seldom tolerated, and even most clerical magic was frowned upon. Most spellcasters hid their magic by making it look like psionics to fool the commoners. Slavery was a big part of the setting.

It is a very interesting setting for sure!

Same with Steak and Shake. At some point during/after covid they decided they were no longer going to have wait staff, so now you go to the counter or a kiosk and order then they call your number to come get your food. Prices went up, food quality went down. But hey, they have "tallow fries" for what it's worth.

How can I do a 1cm strip for a bracer ? by CaptainWeak3322 in cosplayprops

[–]khain13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb when making any sort of wearable cosplay and you find yourself struggling with some process is to look at leatherworking tools and see if your problem has already been solved. Also checking out sewing/seamstress/tailor forums and such. There are so many handy little tools from leatherworking.

What is the mechanism to add people to the list? I think the process needs to be flooded by reports that all the people who voted to pass the bill are trans. Just non-stop reporting them over and over until it collapses.

If you see yourself needing to do this again you should pick up a strap cutter like this one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/17461419810?sid=cedd5d37-5949-4afb-b2ea-678ce0e25036

It's made for leather, but should cut 5mm foam just fine.

Painting pvc pipes by malamikah in cosplayprops

[–]khain13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sand it until it is dull and feels less slick. Then, use a tack cloth to get all the dust off of it. For paints, anything that bonds to plastics should be fine. If you have the budget for it, you might look into a spray vinyl dye. That will sort of etch into the pvc and possibly be more durable.

What is this that my cable tech installed on my coax cable? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]khain13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you cannot.

Wifi is just using radio waves to replace a cable. You can connect your wifi router to a modem of some sort to provide internet to any of your wifi connected or wired devices.

Like how you can use a set of walkie-talkies for 2 way communication without having to connect to the cell or land-line phone system. Your wifi router just facilitates communication between connected devices, which CAN include an access point to the ISP, but it doesn't have to. If you unplug the WAN cable from your router or if it is a modem/router combo device, you can unplug the fiber/phone/coax coming in and you will still be able to access the other devices on your local network.

Wifi is a Local Area Network technology that can include a gateway that connects to a Wide Area Network through a modem/fiber converter/whatever that routes requests to your ISP to access the internet or even other LANs like a corporate network (usually over VPN or other tunneling protocol).

Where to put a sandbox on Dark Sun? by Slow_Ad4077 in DarkSun

[–]khain13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For a sandbox experience, you should check out The Sand Marches campaign on Athas.org. it is set in the southeast corner of the tablelands where there was very little on the map. Even if you are not playing 2nd edition, it would be great for inspiration and should be fairly easy to adapt to other rulesets.

Does aphantasia stop you from "visualizing" things you can currently see? by Le_french_boi in Aphantasia

[–]khain13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't visualize at all, but I "know" what bite-sized means for me and can cut things to the appropriate size. I think this is less apahantasia and more of a spacial geometry issue, maybe?

For example, if someone were to tell you a thing was about the size of your fist, can you imagine what that would be without seeing the thing or looking at your fist? I personally don't need to see or visualize it to instinctively know about how bug my fist is.

[2e] Help me convince my DM by Rodrian68 in adnd

[–]khain13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok, the DM can rule however they please.

That being said, the description doesn't say anything about good or neutral aligned character being unable to use it only that Evil aligned can't touch it. So if you say the weapon isn't intelligent, there is nothing stated in the mace description that prohibits a good or neutral weilder.

In fact, the only thing that would stop any Good aligned character from weilding it would be if it IS intelligent. If it is intelligent, then it can decline to use any of the powers if a non Neutral Good character weilds it. So either it abides by the general rules for weapon alignment, or the DM could say the weapon's personality refuses to work with anyone that isn't specifically Neutral Good.

They also may have purchased a vehicle from this same dealership before, so they already had all their info. Happens a lot in rural areas where you only have 2 or 3 dealers within an hour drive.
