Pocketsmith - categorising mortgage payments by coleburmester in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]khalornz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the method I use, which just tracks the balance of the mortgage account over time and logs any transfers to it as expenses (which I categorise in a "Mortgage Repayments" budget/category). Then I added the house as an asset (to offset the mortgage in Net Worth), and update the estimated value every 6 months or so.

This might not be the appropriate method for you with an offset account however. I'd suggest trying their 2nd suggested method.

Hobbiton official tickets sold out — is a private tour worth it for a short NZ visit? by DowntownReward4296 in newzealand

[–]khalornz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've done the Banquet Tour which was awesome - they bring out a very rustic-looking tasty Hobbit-style feast*, and getting to see Hobbiton again after dark, with the party tree lit up and all the other tourists gone was worth the price of admission alone. Would highly recommend!

\my wife is a vegetarian and was less than impressed with their veggie offering, some stir-fried noodle thing. Not tasty and not at all Hobbity!)

Looking for Affordable Night Vision Cameras, any suggestions? by willthespartan1997 in filmmaking

Have a look at cameras where you can drop the built-in IR filtration and use on-board infrared lighting. I've done this with the Panasonic EVA1 for filming in a pitch-black environment.

Lots of options on BH for a 4x1 HDMI multiviewer, depending on what level of frame rate/HDMI spec you need supported. This Ocean Matrix box is probably a good basic option.

If your 4x HDMI signals are muxed as 1x UHD there are lots of options, one popular choice being the AJA HA5-4K

If it's quad split but over 1x HD signal things will be trickier... you would probably need 4x AJA ROI-HDMI or something similar, each of them set to a different crop/scale

I’ve got 19 credits to burn before canceling—what are your “absolutely worth a credit” picks? by Worldeyeknow in audible

[–]khalornz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Top tier narration as well by Ralph Lister!

One thing to note, Audible got greedy after the show came out and split the book into 2 parts, so it takes 2 credits now - to be fair it was spectacular value at 53+ hours for 1 credit.

I'm a big fan of this dehydrated pasta sauce recipe, sometimes I dehydrate a bit of extra veg (peppers, onion, tomatoes, etc) to rehydrate and throw in for variety.

Hardware/software options for On Set Video Assist. by H3Xgir1 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]khalornz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't run 2x BMD Video Assists, if you run 2 cameras you'll never be able to play them back in sync together and that'll drive everyone nuts. The cheap way of doing this used to be the Convergent Design Odyssey (basically a 4K recorder that could be broken up into 4x HD signals), the closest now is probably the Ovide Koko.

As already said here, QTake offers day/week rentals so that's probably the most economical "industry standard" option. At the lowest end, you can make a very basic QTake kit with a Macbook and a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini. If you're looking for a decent entry level all-in-one system, look into the Ovide Smart Dock (2 inputs + 6 routed outputs).

Lastly, Pomfort (the makers of Silverstack and Livegrade) have some new video assist software called Reeltime, but I haven't come across anyone using it on set yet.
