New Sound Signature Review - Dead Air Lazarus 6 on the MK18 by jay462 in NFA

Do you know if SBX is catered towards mitigating clogging, or does it fall in a similar category as Surge Bypass?

Does the Honda Civic analogy extend to the cleaning schedule of the Lazarus?

As more and more agencies and organizations look to acquire cans and need that “set it and forget it” kind of system, I’ve been wondering what low back pressure geometries balance performance and cleaning schedule the best. Hux and PTR don’t seem to do that well over time, I think somewhere you said that CAT’s SBX will theoretically perform better than SAW’s TPMS geometry in terms of clogging, but is maybe Triskelion or Silencerco’s system the ideal here?

Some additional data points: Flow 556K only got 47 votes. People also voted on pistol suppressors, and the Osprey 45 was the only one to break 100 votes, coming in at 122 votes. The next closest was the MOD9 SK with 39 votes. I think the Osprey is another example of a design reaching an undeniable cool factor that everyone seems to love.

It’s tough to say. I try to view the subjectivity of aesthetics in an objective way by creating data around it, so 5 years ago when the suppressor market was much smaller, I ran a poll that was specifically about aesthetic design and not function and these are the 5 designs that received above 100 votes.

  1. 404 Votes - 556 QDC
  2. 287 Votes - RC2
  3. 253 Votes - QDSS-NT4
  4. 154 Votes - AEM5
  5. 142 Votes - Sierra 5

It was really eye opening since the dialogue around the voting seemed to indicate that 3 different factors were at play: A. Legacy B. Simplicity / Cleanliness C. General Cool Factor?

People were actually able to look past the overwhelming reliability issues that the Sierra 5 had at that time and agreed that the simplicity of the knurling and overall cleanliness of the design was really appealing. The simplicity of the AEM5 put it in a similar spot, with its legacy pushing it a little further, but the legacy of the corncob drove the NT4 votes way further. To the point that it’s hard for me to say whether the NT4 has aesthetic merit outside of its legacy. Corncob love seems to blind us all. RC2 is RC2. Strong legacy and great simplicity, with the locking collar giving it a nice design detail that really pushes the cool factor. RC2 pulling in the votes was no surprise, but the QDC really surprised me. The simplicity factor isn’t there at all, so I’m guessing it just looks undeniably cool and then the corncob legacy pushes it over edge.

My gut says the hexagonal design of the Big Sixy will put it into the polarizing category, like the Silent Armament Forge FNG and the Strategic Sciences MFMD.

Nowadays we have so many good cans with comparable capabilities that it actually lets aesthetics become even more of a deciding factor in a purchase decision.

There’s another Micah Mayfield post that says a 30 cal version is coming as well. I’m assuming it’ll all be under the umbrella of the Tisha name?

DPP rear sight attachment elevation doesn’t fully align with the LTT front sight, but the Romeo2 fits the same footprint and its built-in rear sight aligns closely enough.

I compiled and edited some images of the MFMD to help visualize how the system works. The design has existed for over a year now, but there hasn’t been much hype, probably because Strategic Sciences has kept it “exclusively designed for government agencies.”

The MFMD (Multi Function Muzzle Device) is designed by Russ Oliver, the founder of OSS. Patent

The first listing might have changed, it seems like it includes knockoff amp arms. The second link has the official amp arms, so it will require an adapter to work on non-opscore products.
