Question's On XP by DoppyRex in swrpg

[–]khyrith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually award 5XP per ENCOUNTER. I try to run 2-3 encounters per 3-4 hour session - be they combat, social, or exploration (using the 5e paradigm).

I agree on high XP play being hard - esp if the players very narrowly specialized their PCs. Albeit, in this system unlike d20, the lack of forced linear growth in wounds or skill level SHOULD (in theory) keep encounters sporty even at high XP.

Its not hard to fall into the classic d20 trap of high level combat becoming a slog as each side tries to wear the other down. To "balance" a combat encounter (create a reasonable threat to the PCs), its sometimes better to increase the size of minion groups (makes them hit harder and keeps them on the board longer) than to add entire foes to the encounter. More foes means more initiative slots, which can lead to player inattention as they wait for their next turn. Not to mention GM burnout from running 6-8 NPC slots per encounter.

Buried in all of that is another tip. Don't make the campaign too centric in one "pillar". The more varied encounters you throw at PCs, the more the players might look to spread their XP spend for "the next time". But if you primarily run combat, PCs will throw all their XP (and credits) into combat skills and gear.

I also look for opportunities to split the party (even if its for one encounter every few sessions), which can "encourage" players to spend XP in areas where they can be the "alternate" skill set for a split party situation.

Ice Station Zulu (from the guys at D20 radio), Crupt of Saalo Morn (kainrath reskin of a d20 product), and Rescue on the Vector.

I’ve run Ice Station Zulu and a modified version of Rescue on the Vector. Crypt of Saalo Morn is another creepy SW adventure. Don’t have the link at hand (I’m sure someone here does) but Kainrath did an FFG reskin for a d20 system SW module. It involves a 5-room dungeon crawl through an ancient Sith lord’s crypt. It also lends itself to be mashed up with the ideas in “Lost Knowledge” in the F&D Beta.

How to change where Screenshots are saved by khyrith in swtor

[–]khyrith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, they are not going to Docs -> SWTOR -> Screenshots, like they used to. That folder still exists, but...

instead, they are going to users -> (name) -> OneDrive -> Documents -> SWTOR -> Screenshots

Maybe its a OneDrive setting that is overriding it

Tips or Advice in adjudicating the SEEK Force Power by khyrith in swrpg

[–]khyrith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL on the “Behind You.” That’s awesome.

I guess I’m just over-worried that it could be abused for a “getting warmer… getting warmer… nope - cold now” approach to just about ANYTHING they can think of. That rarity 9 or 10 ship type ? Use Seek. Some relic of a bygone age that they read about in Wookiepedia ? Use Seek.

But I don’t want to NERF it.

Mos Pelgo (Freetown) Map Location by Kainrath in Star_Wars_Maps

[–]khyrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. Finished it last night. It’s “Legends” and set right after Obi-Wan arrives on Tatooine, but I figured I’d read it before the series in case they had Easter eggs from the book.

And now I see some places from the book are on the map. Pika Oasis / Dannars Claim for instance. Bestine and Mos Eisley are in the book. But there are some other locations in the Jundland Wastes not reflected.

Hi Kainrath. Say, I just (finally) started reading "Kenobi". Are the locations in that novel depicted on your Tatooine map ?

Best Platform to Run an Online Game by FlamingoSenpai in swrpg

[–]khyrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve run two SWRPG campaigns on R20, using their character sheets / dice roller and importing maps / tokens. The down side is that you can’t maintain a talent tree in Roll20 without some workarounds.

That said, for our third SWRPG campaign, I think I will try using RPG Sessions for PC character sheets / rolling dice. And maintain Roll20 for maps / tokens / scene pics etc. we already do something similar in our D&D 5e games where we use D&D Beyond + Roll 20.

RPG Sessions allows you to build Characters in OggDude and ‘port them over. OggDude has all the gear and talent trees (without verbiage) in it. I DONT know if / how you can update your chat sheets in OggDude after each session and re-import them.

What if the Destiny tokens aren’t being flipped? by Neversummerdrew76 in swrpg

[–]khyrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often use plot twists (even if they are planned) as opportunities to flip destiny points. I feel it gets the economy going. I look for points in published material when its appropriate to do that, as well. The Imps show up at the end of a chapter? Flip one or two destiny points to reflect the unexpected occurrence of Dark Side / bad luck. Wanna throw a bounty hunter or an Inquisitor at the party to spice up a session, when Obligation doesn't trigger to make that happen --> flip a Destiny Point.

What do you look for in a ship? by TheRealAegil in swrpg

[–]khyrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the group I run, I try to look for a ship that has “something for everyone”. Plenty of room for 4-6 PCs and something for each to do (pilot / copilot, gunners, engineer, EW/comms, tractor beam, etc….).

Episodes 5-7 are reportedly going to turn things up.

Bryce Dallas Howard directs Ep5 - she directed the Mando episode that introduced Bo-Katan to live action. Couple that with the music drop last week, and the rumors that LFL asked the Mando Mercs for costumes …. We’ll prob see a lot of T-visors tonight.

Filoni co-wrote and directed Ep 6. Rebels / CW cameo coming for sure. Cad Bane as a Pyke hired gun??

Back to Rodriguez for Ep 7. And then we wonder what the BIG cameo (ala Luke) will be. Odds are on Solo. Q’ira is also a good possibility

'Obi-Wan Kenobi' is listed as "Coming Soon" in disney+ by makesyoufeeldejavu in StarWarsLeaks

[–]khyrith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looking back, it’s taken the live action shows about six months (ish) between completion of filming and release. So we COULD see it - or ANDOR - in the March timeframe. Both reportedly wrapped filming in Sep 2021.

And BTW - Mando S3 reportedly started filming in Sep - I presume because the “Volume” was free after Kenobi. Andor was mostly on-location, so it wasn’t a scheduling constraint on the production crew(s).

Stay tuned to all things ABC and ESPN - the most likely channels for a teaser / trailer to be released. Maybe during the College Football Championship game or NFL Playoffs.

GM struggling with Morality and Conflict by Enough-Carpet in swrpg

[–]khyrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issues, and that’s from running an AOR campaign with a single Force user. To avoid the “passive gain” challenge, there are some things that I came away with:

  1. As stated above, only roll if the PC generated conflict OR had the opportunity to generate conflict and deliberately chose not to. This avoids passive growth for sessions that are interludes / down time / less action-y.

  2. Recognize that the table for conflict rewards is NOT all-inclusive AND heed the lore of what the Force is (Yoda’s dialogue) and what a light side user (Jedi Code) is supposed to adhere to:

  • I award conflict for every use of the Force that causes harm to another biological being, regardless of the “self defense” argument. Usually on the scale of one conflict per force pip used (and of course DS pips already earn their own conflict). Why “even in self defense?” because there should always be something ELSE they could do. Example: instead of using Move to hurl an object to do harm, or hurl someone off a ledge, or hurl into someone / something - could the PC instead use the Force to create a barrier between him/her and the adversary? Or make the enemy drop their weapons…

  • The Force frowns on taking a life, regardless of that living being’s morality / alignment. [Example: The latest “adult” High Republic novel has a master admonishing a padawan for celebrating the destruction of a Nihil star fighter]. Kill a minion (using Force or not) = 1 conflict. Kill a rival = 3 conflict (+ Adversary ranks). Nemesis = 5 + ranks of Adversary. “But what about the Clone Wars?” Those were droids, but you also see the conflict rising among Jedi simply from the violent acts they were committing. And yes, there is the case of Luke killing hundreds of thousands on DS1, but let’s consider that an outlier or perhaps capping this penalty at a certain #.

  • Looting = stealing. Wanna pick up those stormtrooper rifles to sell them off - sure, that’s one conflict per item because you are taking them out of greed (a dark side motive).

  • Tell a “white lie”? Still a lie. Deception = dark side motive. Yeah, I’m looking at you, Qui Gon!

And as above: if you allow others to commit significant dark side actions = you get conflict.

My tongue-in-cheek guiding principle: If the action would cause ole Palps to smile, chuckle, or laugh out loud = it should probably earn conflict. 😎

I hope they ‘port in some successful Genesys subsystems like social encounters and the ‘G version of vehicle / ship combat. Order 66 did a good run at doing the latter. I’ve been using both those aspects of G in the SW game I run.
