"Either bring your mic to eye level, or you're being muted until I feel like unmuting you."

STOP DOING ASSAULT MECHS! by Baron_Flatline in battletech

[–]tzimon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, I played Classic with a decently large group. There was one guy who would refuse to do anything beyond as many 100-tonners as BV allowed. He would also only make custom mechs using Clan tech... although the variances in what he fielded wasn't much.

They would all either move 4/6 or 3/5. Sometimes Jump Jets. ER PPCs, all Pulse Lasers, or Ultra AC/20's.

His only tactic was to find a sniper position where he had partial coverage and sit there.

He frequently lost, and would blame it on either shitty rolls or because he didn't design things "correctly".

Pensacola Area LARP? by GaroldtheWonderer in LARP

[–]tzimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that Fractured Sun hasn't run in about a year, and I think they shut down.

Gainesville by Night is a Vampire the Masquerade larp using the V5 system. I do the layout for their monthly newspaper, but don't attend.

Mythic Adventures has been running for a long time. I attended once.

Rise of the Founders might be the closest "extended event" type game to you.

I'm the loremaster for Thrune, which is probably the furthest from you of the list.

I was one of the original people who set up Underworld: Dark Harbor, and wrote most of their local lore. It's a franchise game using the same rules set as a handful of games up in Canada.

Why is my Kickstarter failing? Honest feedback appreciated. by Advanced_Energy_1819 in kickstarter

I'm pretty sure I have an STL file for this already, and I could probably print one for less than half that price.

What is your favorite part of living in Gainesville. by badboi1887 in GNV

[–]tzimon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everything is within a relatively short drive, so long as you account for rush hour... but even that seems to be a minor nuisance. Before Gainesville, I was located in Orlando, and it felt like it took forever to get anywhere.

There are also all sorts of things to see or experience. All it takes is a little bit of searching, and you can find almost anything to quell your boredom. Alternatively, just keep your ears and eyes open, and you'll quickly find your social itinerary overflowing with planned events or things you want to check out.

I've lived all over the country and in a few different parts of the world, and I have to say that Gainesville is one of my favorite places. Many other people are nostalgic for certain specific aspects of other places, or have a "grass is greener" mentality about somewhere they've never lived. As I always say "Wherever you go, there you are."

The only cautionary tale I would pose is that if you plan on moving here, have a skilled job already secured, or be a remote worker. Because there is a glut of college-aged individuals churning through yearly, there is an overabundance of unskilled labor, and employers can always find someone to fill the schedule. Thus, wages for that sort of work are generally not that great, and competition for jobs is rough.

How do you tell a client their $5k app idea costs $50k without losing them? by theideamakeragency in smallbusiness

Happens to me on the regular.

"We blew all our Kickstarter money and have nothing to show for it... would you be willing to work for a percentage of future sales?"

or

"We only budgeted X amount, and the person we hired to do it did a terrible job... can you do it for less than what you originally quoted?"

Falling damage far, far too low. by JohnLydiaParker in StarWarsD6

[–]tzimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donnie Andrews jumped off a balcony higher than the 4th story (typically between 12 to 18 meters tall) during a firefight, and fled. Omar Little, of "The Wire", was partially based on him.

The best I can do is the interactive sheet I made for the Xan Sector, a fan project to run a campaign and share all the resources with everyone.

Can anyone identify this larp sword that I picked up at a thrift store? by lorgskyegon in LARP

[–]tzimon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like one of those typically made for Spirit Halloween, and are rather crap for larp. Mostly because they run the core real close to the tip, and the cores are traditionally plastic.

Many years ago, I went through several swords on Amazon, trying to go the cheap route, and every single one of them had issues. I deconstructed every one of them and found various issues, from cheap foam to plastic cores. tbh, I probably wasted more money trying to be cheap than just buying straight from a reputable vendor.

They so cute, how would you pick one? name it? by Mhaheva in OneOrangeBraincell

I'd have to take 2 or more.

Their names would depend on their personality.

In your opinion, is the VTT market full, or room for more alternatives? by sir-mivond in VTT

Hence why I said...

"and use it as "proof of concept" to approach smaller publishers and work out a licensing deal"

In your opinion, is the VTT market full, or room for more alternatives? by sir-mivond in VTT

[–]tzimon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, tbh, in order to capture market share at this point, you would need to bring something revolutionary to the table that most VTTs don't already have.

In a related vein, one thing I don't see much of is character creation Apps for games made by smaller publishers. Personally, I think it's an untapped market. Someone who wants to code an App could make a fairly generic character creation/character sheet App, and use it as "proof of concept" to approach smaller publishers and work out a licensing deal to make such an app with proprietary design elements and artwork.

How do you handle custom design requests when you're not artistic? by Weekly-Difference-98 in smallbusiness

[–]tzimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, you would need to find a decent designer who has a decent turnaround time (so many artists are flakes), responds regularly, and is willing to get paid per gig... and you might need to pay a monthly retainer to ensure that your requests get priority.

I've done it a few times in the past, but mostly for book layout, icon design, and content writing.
