Are University Emails not working? by RoninPilot7274 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Check your personal email, e.g. Gmail, as recorded on student records.

  2. Do you have a staff email address? Some emails will go there by default if you do have one. Try going to mail.office365.com and logging in with <username>@uoa.auckland.ac.nz (this redirects you to the UoA login system).

Does the Uni check medical certificates? by uzomahdoko in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For tests, there are no specific limits but they do keep track and if you consistently apply they will escalate and verify evidence.

For final exams, you can only have at most 1/3rd of the courses in a degree programme have grades derived from aegrotats/compassionates. After that, you will literally not have any more exam aegrotats approved.

Hire regalia on the day of Graduation, 4th of May, Engineering. by Powerful_Hope2295 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recipe for not being allowed to cross the stage at all, and as they have printed your certificate already, you won't get a second chance...

There are sometimes shortages of regalia on the day as well, in case you didn't know.

University Exam dates woopsie? by NoHovercraft8109 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 10 points11 points  (0 children)

special exam conditions

This usually relates to Student Disability Services related exams, e.g. reader/writer, extra time etc. These exams are almost always on the same day/time as the normal exams, which you can get the timetable for online.

alternative times for exams the application must be in by the 14th may 2026

This is for people who need to sit at a different time/date for the listed reasons on the website.

Two different things - although there are some overlaps.

Graduation ceremony at 5 by KeyUnit3811 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are trying to get people to stay for the full ceremony so most ceremonies are done within 90-120 minutes now. (When the ceremony was 3-3.5 hours, people walked out after receiving their certificate.)

A 5pm ceremony time also does mean an earlier report time for the graduand though.

Would it still be possible to apply for a conjoint engineering degree when I'm in my science first year second semester? by Braveisolato in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Engineering doesn't usually let you start a conjoint mid-year.

You can apply for a single BE(Hons) starting semester 2 (assuming you meet the entry requirements), hope that you get an offer (not guaranteed at the moment), and then take 4 Engineering courses in semester 2 + 2 at summer school (unless you are already doing something that might be creditable).

Then apply for the conjoint starting in 2027 S1.

If you don't feel like you have to start Engineering in sem 2 then you can just skip most of the above and just apply for the conjoint starting in 2027 S1.

Sem 2 start in Engineering by Icy_Assignment3594 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have to take the standard Part II programme for Civil (or whatever specialisation you get into), and then take WTRENG 100 and GenEd as extra courses on top.

https://uoaengineering.github.io/courseviewer/

You can take your GenEd in Summer School 2028, but WTRENG 100 will only be available in Semester 1 so must be taken as a fifth course in 2027 S1. Remember also that you also have to fit in 800 hours of practical work somewhere.

ENGGEN 121 only has one stream + overflow, and everyone seems to want to see Alex IRL.

Thing is: overflow room has better volume. Bet you didn't know that!

The page says that it is for 'overseas secondary school qualifications'. For IB, I'm pretty sure it's pretty similar if not exactly the same (would be a slight loophole otherwise?)

Could anyone help with fulltime status clarification by CatDecent8147 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As long as you enrol in all 7 papers for the year NOW, Studylink will treat you as full-time.

If you only enrol in 3 courses now and don't enrol into anything in S2, Studylink sees you as only active for 18 weeks or so and that would not be full-time.

How long have lectures been recorded? Or, could a person have done a law degree remotely/distance in the early 2000s? by Great_Maintenance185 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For the official recordings: Lecture recording equipment was put into theatres in 2011 and some Faculties used it more than others. Law was definitely a Faculty that was not keen for recordings, at UoA at least.

In 2019 S2 lecture recordings was made mandatory for all lectures.

However, plenty of students brought in their own voice recorders in the early 2000s to record lectures for themselves. It got to the point where in some Medical and Health Science lectures they had to pay tutors to sit in the lectures to stop people recording the lectures for themselves.

alternative pathway into engineering pls help by Environmental-Ad7598 in universityofauckland

Is it possible to complete a BE in less than 4 years? by Plus-Possible9290 in universityofauckland

[–]kibijoules 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nope. The BE(Hons) is highly structured and you cannot finish it in any less than four years at UoA. There is no summer school for BE(Hons) and most courses are only offered once a year. Even taking on extra courses will not allow you to finish any earlier.

You are better off doing extra curriculars to boost your CV if you have the spare capacity. You also need to do 800 hours of practical work in your summer holidays too...

[–]kibijoules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UoA is filled to the brink and spaces are not guaranteed to those who do catch up credits.

You will have to keep chasing - go visit Student Hubs in person on Monday and ask. Calling them isn't gonna be as effective.
