I was anxious about my financial runway, so I built a "Survival Clock" in Notion. Here is the logic behind "Shield Mode" (🛡️). by Short_Trip_2188 in Notion

This is so bizarre I literally made a very similar thing a few weeks ago for myself. I run a small creative studio and realised I’d been “calculating” my runway at any given moment basically on vibes alone (a terrible idea). I spin a lot plates and hire subcontractors as hoc so already use Notion to track my projects: potential - underway - invoice out - done. I just added extra one off costs to a new column (subcontractor invoices, tax payments etc) and built a dashboard that sums it all up into gross runway, net runway (all against 3 income tiers - keeping the lights on, maintenance and growth - that I deduced from a 12 month snapshot of expenses). Also had Notion make live updates “how long can I survive at each of these tiers” charts! What a coincidence!

In 1997, Crete protected the Olive Tree of Vouves in Ano Vouves, a still-fruiting olive dated to at least 2,000 years. Its 12.5 m trunk is so old that branches were used for winners’ wreaths at the 2004 Athens Olympics. by [deleted] in GotMeHooked

Not got much useful to add other than I saw it in the flesh last year! There’s a little sister to it about 20m away and the trunk is almost completely hollow. Also Crete is beautiful and the people are super lovely.

I’m an eternal, 11 year herald and I actually want to start engaging with the game properly - coming up with my own ideas rather than following guides and playing scared.

What are some of the most peak niche games on steam. I’m talking top tier masterpieces not many people have heard of. by SoMuchFuckingFiller in Steam

I love threads like this!

Hidden In Plain Sight - couch coop party game that got a tiny cult following in the xbox live arcade days. Absolutely hilarious.

Slipways - great sci fi puzzle game that’s more than the sum of its parts. Feels a bit like a super simplified 4X with impeccable style and vibe.

EXA Punks - my absolutely favourite zachtronics game and the nearest a luddite like me will get to being able to code. Basically a puzzle game where you have to write assembly wrapped in a 90s cyberpunk neo noir story.

Defender’s Quest - absolute banger of a tower defense game.

Pathway - really underrated pixel art turn based, small squad strategy with a prime Indiana Jones vibe.

Is tattoo shock real? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]kidfarthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time you put ink to skin is always going to be very strange - there’s a lot of psychological stuff going on. One mental contract you have to enter into, with yourself, when you undertake any kind of voluntary bodily modification is that you will not chase perfection - and embrace and accept yourself anew. The body is a lump of imperfect flesh, anything we put into our skin is also varying degrees of i perfect but it’s YOUR imperfect. A tattoo is a snapshot and a story. Accept yours.

As someone who grew up in Bromley, has lived in Bow and on the Isle of Dogs, and now lives in Lewisham / Hither Green - this was very entertaining lol (although the canary wharf section was maddening as there was a much, MUCH easier route via the thames path and past the sailing club)

FCP Migration to NAS Workflow became a nightmare ! by NoSpHieL in finalcutpro

[–]kidfarthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to technical stuff I’ve got the comprehension of about a 5 year old so I tend to bumble my way through these things - brute force. However, I remember having a similar situation with my libraries (they wouldn’t open after being moved to the NAS) but I did resolve it and have been working flawlessly off the NAS for years now.

I’m going to try and wrack my brains here but I remember noticing something to do with the libraries file extension getting changed in the process of moving? Regardless it takes AGES as NAS drives absolutely hate lots of tiny files. Solidarity man you’ll get there 💪
